I’m not really sure why but for some reason my mind is on fire tonight and I keep cranking out blog post after blog post, I guess I am having another one of those mind explosions after a week of drought. One of the best things about having a blog is networking and interacting with other bloggers, this of course happens when you venture away from your own blog to other blogs. When I ventured out into my Feedly RSS reader one of the blogs I visited was using a social bookmarking plugin that offered the ability to retweet the blog post on Twitter, we have all seen this plugin before.
When I clicked on the Twitter icon in the social bookmarking area it opened a new window and allowed me to login to my Twitter account, it also conveniently entered the post title and url for me in the tweet field. One of the key things that was missing from the tweet window is what sparked this post about Twitter and retweeting on twitter.
10 Reasons I Will Not Retweet You on Twitter
- Your tweet was spam.
- Your tweet was stupid.
- Your retweet button points to @tweetmeme.
- Your social bookmark plugin doesn’t retweet you specifically on Twitter.
- Your tweet was porn. Not that I have anything against it, I just don’t tweet it.
- If you think your too good to do any retweeting in return.
- You use bots to tweet.
- Your blog does not use the Tweetmeme WordPress Plugin or Twittley Wordress Plugin.
- You use a fake celebrity Twitter account.
- You retweet a tweet of mine, then ask me to retweet something for you.
Here’s another one of those lists that can easily be 100 deep, take a quick second and leave a comment sharing a couple of the things that people might tweet that you will not retweet on twitter. The retweet button pointing to @tweetmeme is the one that always irks me the most… especially when I’m on a blog that is supposed to contain the best blogging/social media expertise on the planet! Dude, if you don’t have the chops to change a simple setting in a WP plugin and/or don’t understand the benefit of having your RT’s contain your username, then seriously, your stuff isn’t worth retweeting!

I use Tweet This and just added RT and my Twitter name. I thought it added that, but noticed it did not [does now]. It’s okay if you don’t tweet my posts as long as you still stop by from time to time when the mood strikes.

I agree an all your arguments. Myself, in general I only retweet people I follow closely (and usually know from business etc) AND if they have written anything really interesting (or fun). I don’t want to tire my followers with loads of retweets not representative for what I would tweet myself.
I have been into twitter from few months and i see many twitters don’t retweet you tweet if you don’t have time to tell them thanks ;)
. This will not take even 5 seconds , but still many bloggers don’t thank their retweeters.
What do you think John , why many bloggers do like this ???

Dude, I installed the Retweet by tweetmeme and didn’t realize my posts were RT@tweetmeme until I read the post you linked to from here! I hate that, and usually i would just take the time to copy and paste it into Tweetdeck and fix the RT@yourname when I would do it. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve been starting to get requests for rt’s left and right. Some of it just spammers and other people have good intentions, but it just doesn’t feel right. It’s like they’re abusing the law of reciprocity.

Mike always yells at me because my Tweets are too long to retweet without editing. I think that’s just being lazy, but it drives him crazy and he won’t RT me. I find I’m always editing others’ tweets to make them fit and add my own commentary & it doesn’t bug me.

The tweetmeme plug-in gave me quite a bit of headache months back and I removed it never to put it back again. I’m fine with the text retweet link which has got my twitter name.
I like to RT now that i know how easy it is, but I cannot stand it when the page opend to @tweetme, and sometime I don’t RT if it does not notify the original source. What is @addthis?
