Blog Engage Tips

I have written about Blog Engage and the Blog Engage WordPress Plugin here in the past due to the excellent results that I see from using the plugin here on my blog. I wanted to take a moment to offer up 10 tips for better Blog Engage results as a way to help bloggers using the plugin generate more traffic and increase the size of their blog network.

I have personally watched the Blog Engage community grow over the last 4 1/2 months, a lot of the growth is honestly due to the hard working webmaster that owns Blog Engage, Brian. You can follow Brian on the social networking site Twitter, you can find him retweeting and sharing some of the best blogging tips and information around, connect with @bbrian017 and tell him Extreme John sent ya.

Anyway, that’s enough of the intro stuff. Enjoy.

10 Tips for Better Blog Engage Results

  1. Display the button in a prominent location
  2. Insert the Blog Engage button manually into posts
  3. Make a post about Blog Engage to educate your readers
  4. Encourage your readers to vote your posts up
  5. Vote on other bloggers articles
  6. Submit your own blog posts as soon as the post is published
  7. Don’t flood the community with your posts
  8. Find bloggers to connect with directly through the community
  9. Do a monthly Blog Engage Recap post
  10. Share other bloggers posts via the Twitter retweet function

I hope you find some of these tips useful for increasing your results with Blog Engage and remember that you will get out of Blog Engage exactly what you put in to it. Leave a comment and let me know if this was helpful and don’t forget Blog Engage it!!

John,

One really important fact you mentioned here is about educating your readers. If you really want to see results you have to let your readers know what’s going on and most importantly encourage them to vote for you.

I’m always asking my readers to vote for me on my blog and it’s been working out great. The wordpress plugin is always a great idea as well. I hope you like how I took the advice of your readers and made the links open in a new window.

I love the blog engage series you have been doing it’s been great press!

@bbrian017, Bro, you have done a fantastic job, making it a huge hit. I actually came across blogengage an year 7 months ago but started using the past 2 months. I thought at that time i didn’t think that it would go that well, but i am glad that it did. I prefer it over digg, where it is very difficult to get on top

@gautam hans, yeah in my opinion unless your a huge pro blogger or a tech blog there’s really no traffic benefit to Digg. Thats just my 2 cents.

@bbrian017, it’s a lot like commenting or anything else you intend to grow on your blog. Put the time into it and be a little creative and you should be set 8)

@Melvin, Woooh there Melvin, just when I thought I’d give blog engage a try, you come telling about how it’s wrong. C’mon, share your reasons why you think it’s wrong. If your reason is other than tip #7, please spill it out.

@James Moralde, I am curious as well. Please spill it out, I know of a couple of disadvantages to using BE. However the traffic return is still greater than the disadvantage for me.

I read your previous post about Blog Engage and now these tips. I think I need to reorganize my schedule to spend more time active on Blog Engage since Stumble, Mixx, Twitter, commenting and writing consumes most of my time now.
And is it OK if you write a post about traffic of Blog Engage in comparison with other traffic sources to your blog? It is much helpful for newbie like me.

I love BlogEngage, it’s certainly a site that treats it’s users with respect, not like some other sites I could mention! Great tips for new and avid users of BlogEngage and ones which I do try to adhere to, right, I’m off to do some voting

The problem with the Blog Engage button (and many others, for that matter) is that they require a user login. I doubt that many non-bloggers have a BlogEngage account, so you would actually have to educate the *blog owners* of your readers, to click it, and the other 90% of the readers are not gonna do it :)

At the same time, requiring an account is the “force” of those buttons, to avoid spam and such.

I’m loving the tips John.

I’m a new member to BlogEngage and I have already found it very beneficial. You can look forward to seeing me as a regular on the BlogEngage site and stalking the blogs of the BE members I’m connecting with (certainly a great way to build reciprocal relationships with fellow bloggers).

Hi John,
I’m missing some of the items from your list.
I have a WordPress.com blog and I need to work on getting the vote button to display on my posts. Looks like I have to come up with a work-around because the plugins will not work for me.

I took care of #3 last night by posting 2 screencasts that will introduce my readers to BlogEngage and how to sign up. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think. I hope that others will share it to help educate potential members.

My first monthly recap will be due early next month since I joined in the beginning of November. I have met a lot of great people here, and it will be my pleasure to post a recap.

Thanks for taking the time to make this list, it will be very helpful for many of us to refer back to. It certainly has my vote.

I don’t know if I was doing something wrong but for the past months that I’ve been on Blog Engage, I’ve never seen signs of traffic from Google Analytics not even a single one! I don’t know if it was just me or am I really missing out something? I give props when it’s due anyway.

Hello John,
I have been using BlogEngage just a short time so appreciate your tips here. When you say, do not flood it with articles, you might have a new post here, an article about guidelines for posting on BE and which types of articles you should post and those to stay away from. How often to post, etc. This may be a stupid question but as a blogger who has been publishing for three years on multiple blogs should I be posting articles on BE that are new posts or can I pluck articles from the past and put them on as well?

@Boomerblogger, you hit on something that I intend to write about in regards to deep linking strategies, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I do like the idea of writing a quick how to or some guidelines on submitting, I know that I don’t submit every article that’s on here. I typically try to stick to posting the stuff that might either help another blogger or something that I know the community enjoys based on previous success’s.

As for submitting articles, I have gone back in my archives and submitted a few posts that I thought would be good. However I typically do this when I know my traffic is lagging in hopes of giving it a little added boost. I am a fiend when it comes to numbers, I don’t like my blog traffic to drop from any previous week and have been like that for a while. So on those bad weeks or weeks I am super busy and just can’t get the job done on here, I look for previous content to pull me through.

I’m happy you asked that question, it’s really something I should have put on the table a long time ago.

John,

Great tips. This past weekend I decided to remove the Digg button from the top of my posts and bury it in my bookmark toolbar at the end.

I now proudly display the Blog Engage Vote button via the plugin. I’m curious why you suggest manually placing it, or are you suggesting to do this in addition to the plugin?

I also made a post about why I made the change from Digg to Blog Engage and the response was great. I was not expecting such a response.

Brian is doing some great things over there, and it is reflected in the results I am seeing on my site.

Thanks for sharing these tips!
