Pretty funny that I’m in the middle of Christmas stuff and getting ready for the big day like many of you. Actually I’m maxamizing my time… and currently sit at a red light writing this post. With it being the busy shopping season there’s no question that I’ll have plenty of red lights on the way to my destination to get the header and footer of this post written, the list itself won’t be getting done at these lights.
Anyway, I thought it would be a good time to start putting together a fun, informative post. Trust me, there’s people out there in the work force that need to see this. There’s also a business owner or entrepreneur out there that understands exactly what I’m talking about when it comes to a few of these reasons that you wouldn’t miss an associate… or in some cases why you would be THRILLED to see an associate go.
On to the list.
Reasons No One Cares That You Quit
- “Taking care of business” was something you thought only occurred in a bathroom
- “Expectations” only meant that you expected to be paid for doing nothing
- Truth be told, just not by you
- Your work ethic was matched only by that of a dead snail
- You took the fork in the road at every learning curve
- You confuse + / – with funny symbols to send in SMS messages
- The word “success” made you think of white rice
- “Time” is the one four letter word you never figured out
- Stephan King’s stories couldn’t hold a candle to your epic tales of bullshit
- Every time someone said “clean” you waited for a bald guy with an earring to show up
- “CS” means something to you that I won’t write here vs it’s actual meaning, “Customer Service”
- Being “self motivated” to you was picking up the phone to call in sick
- “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” is a word you could only spell when the song was on
Parting Shots
As funny as the list above might be, it’s actually very sad. If you have an associate that suffers from those things above you should already be set into a good counseling practice to either get the associate on track or exiting stage left. Any associate with the issues above that get to linger around only damage your business, hard working associates and the most important facet of your business, the customers.
Take a look at “9 Tips to proper Employee Counseling” and “3 Step Employee Counseling Process” for more information on getting the useless weight out of your business before they do more damage then needs to be done.
Bottom line, proper counseling to train and educate will ensure that your expectations become closer to reality.
You’re Up
Leave a comment below and share a few things that an associate, co-worker or associate within your business could do in order for you to not miss them when they aren’t with you any longer. I’m sure this can get pretty interesting.

I wouldn’t be that crazy, it’s an opinion about nothing more then anything.

It’s funny, yet sad that I have known coworkers like that. There have been a few that I have been in on celebration parties for even. Absolutely love #9 – I have heard some really good whoppers in the last few years, a few that were one step away from “then they took me in their spaceship and that’s when the probing began.” Hehe…

This had me in stitches. Sad, but true, I’ve seen “that guy or girl” at every company in my career. Funny thing is, they usually don’t get it until it’s too late, so not sure if counseling will work. In a word they lack one thing–it’s called “CARE”.

So true, “caring” isn’t something that’s easy to find these days. Let’s just hope that those that can’t figure out how to care don’t end up in any high level positions on accident.
LOL at number 1: Taking care of business is something that only occurs in a bathroom stall. Classic, I am going to start using that one!

Haha glad you found it funny Tony.

The saddest part is that I have been on both sides of the issue. The absolute worst thing a company can do is to allow a disgruntled, lazy, whiny employee to continue their poor behavior. Trust me, from experience, your only responsible choice is either rehab or recycle the bad apples.

Great point Rob, letting the rotten fruit lay around with the good fruit only invites flies to the good fruit too.
Screw the dead apples I say. Clean’em out before they clean you out.
Such a brutally honest article! You really are a great author !

Hi Linsey, thank you. Maybe just an honest one, not sure the “great” fits me that well.
