3 Applications to Sync Twitter with Facebook

by Extreme John on October 30, 2009 |

I spent the previous week checking out the various Twitter applications to sync your Twitter feed with your Facebook account, I initially started my venture because I wanted to sync our Twitter account @etasflorida with our Extreme Tan and Smoothies Facebook Fan page, which turned out to be a complete failure btw.

After screwing around with the various applications available on Facebook that claim to sync your Twitter account with your Facebook account I decided to write this post in hopes that it might help some of you make the best choice for syncing Twitter with Facebook.

How to Connect Twitter with Facebook

If you are a Facebook rookie you might not know where to find applications or how to install them, take a minute and check out my post How to Find Twitter Facebook Applications, that should give you a decent idea of where to find what your looking for.

Twitter Applications for Facebook

1. Supa Sync

supa-sync-twitter-appSupa Sync Facebook Application

This one was really promising and looked perfect for what I would like to do with Twitter, Supa Sync claims to remove @hashtags and @ replies from tweets that are synced with your Facebook account. I played around with this application for a while trying to get it to work and didn’t have any success as it didn’t seem to send my tweets to my Facebook page, if you have better luck with this one let me know because it has some features I would like to take advantage of.

2. Twitter

Twitter Facebook Application

This is the official Twitter application for Facebook and is very generic, it will take every tweet that you send and display it as a Facebook status update. I used this one for a while but quickly grew irritated with it sending ALL of my tweets as well as #hashtags and @ replies to my Facebook wall, and I am sure that my Facebook friends were also pretty annoyed with this Twitter app in place.

3. Selective Twitter Status

Selective Twitter Status Facebook Application

This is the one I am currently using to selectively sync my Twitter messages with my Facebook page and it was certainly the quickest and easiest application out of the three apps to install. Selective Twitter Status will sync your tweet with your Facebook page every time you add #fb to the end of a tweet, this is handy for choosing which tweets show up in your Facebook status updates and a pretty nice application if you tweet from an iPhone appp or the Uber Twitter Blackberry application.

I have to say that I am really disappointed with the Facebook apps that allow you to share your tweets with your Facebook status updates and on your Facebook wall, I thought for sure there would be a few more options out there with some different features.

If you currently use a better Facebook application to share your tweets from Twitter to your Facebook please leave a comment and let me know what it is, I will be more than happy to check it out and review the application on Extreme John. No idea John.. I don’t think that my tweets would translate very well to facebook status updates, so I’m not entirely happy with trying to sync the two

@Kelvin Servigon, Tweet Deck is good but if you Tweet from a mobile device and want that update to go to Twitter and Facebook Tweet Deck can’t get that done. At least to my knowledge, for someone like me who is out more than I am in I need the mobile ability.

I don’t integrate my Facebook account with Twitter account because I don’t want people on facebook read what I tweet. Sometimes our tweets is not suitable for Facebook exposure.. :D

@Een Rockstar, thats a very good point Een not everyone on Facebook wants to read Tweets anyway.

Hi John,

I am the developer of SupaSync, and I’m really sorry to hear you had issues with it. I’d be happy to look into your issues further, if you care to contact me.

For those who have issues with SupaSync, the issue is either with your Facebook permissions (which are needed for SupaSync to update FB, and are granted when you save your settings) or with your Twitter authorisation (which means SupaSync can’t read your tweets).

I am working on the next version of SupaSync which contains better error logging and identification, and users will be able to see if there are any issues with their setup and resolve them right there on the SupaSync settings page.

If anyone would like further help with their SupaSync, feel free to contact me on Twitter (@SupaSync).

Best Regards,

Jason

How do you get the twitter feed to sync into our company’s facebook page – it seems to just keep going into my personal facebook profile.

Tweetdeck has worked nicely for me so far. Unfortunately, it does not seem to support Ow.ly as a URL compression (selectable option)

I will be trying this one soon. Thanks for this excellent post!
