Where is the blog on keeping the entrepreneur motivated? I've seen a lot of people with great ideas give up because it doesn't come with the snap of a finger. As far as sucky employees... well ha, this is always a given. However, I read a book called The E-Myth Revisited and it gave me a few ideas to try out. Great great book.

Great tips! In reference to hiring employees that don't suck, while preparing for the interview, you should think of difficult situations that happen in your business, and find a way to ask an interviewee how they would handle a very similar situation. Because anyone interviewing for a customer service position is going to say that they handle difficult customers with absolute patience and respect, but if you were to ask them how they would treat a waiter that brought out the wrong order, you may get a totally different reaction.

My favorite list here is the how to hire employees that don´t suck! Especially in any type of service business, your employees are the business and to find ones that ¨don´t suck¨ is INSANELY important.

There are some good points made in these articles on employee management. From a small business owner perspective, internal goals and policies are also critical. The number 1 goal I emphasize, and create employee policy around, is "No Leakage!" Wasting away leads and client base is equally as bad, if not worse, than failing to attract new leads and clients. Every phone call and email should be answered, every voicemail returned, and every loose-end tied. If you're not in the office, forward your business calls to your cell. If you don't like listening to voicemail, use a voicemail transcription service (google voice offers free transcription). Follow "no leakage" and your ROI on all expenses (whether they be related to employees, marketing, advertising, infrastructure) will increase dramatically!

Way too many small business do not practice these. It's just like throwing money away when you don't run your business smartly.

:high: Control of a business is always held by the majority owner. As owner of one third, you have little influence unless the current owner is willing to give it to you. If so it must be in writing as a shareholder agreement. Independant legal advice is critical to your decision. You should have an accountant review the financials of the company before a decision is taken.
