9 Goals to Kick off Monday Morning at My Small Business

Good morning, and happy Monday. I hope you had a great weekend, and your week is off to a great start.

As any entrepreneur or small business owner can come to expect, Monday’s can be an entirely different level of hectic. I like to keep the typical Monday chaos to a controlled minimum whenever possible. I’m known to rip into the new week’s work load on Sunday’s, it’s always paid off big for me to slide a few hours in on Sunday in order to get that early jump.

One of the other tactics I use to keep my Monday’s under control is by creating a list of goals before the week begins. These are things that I know I’ll need to get done on Monday in order to keep deliveries and in-stock condition at the right levels heading into the busier Thursday – Sunday rush.

Here’s a look at a few of the things on my Monday morning goal list.

Simple Goals I Set for Myself as a Small Business Owner

Local Small Business

KICK THE DOORS OPEN AND TAN SOME BUNS!!

Application Review

I’m looking to add four new team members to the Extreme Tan and Smoothies team. Since I’m not known for hiring on the fly, I’ll be reviewing applications with great detail 😉

Interview Scheduling

Once I have my potential new hire candidates picked from the VIPO application review system, I’ll be setting up each individuals first interview. I prefer to have each applicant interviewed twice to ensure consistency.

Inventory Management

If you’re out-of-stock, you can’t sell products. Seems simple enough to me. Based on lead-times from my distributors, Monday is the best day for me to update on-hand counts, and place product orders. Based on the walk-thru I just did, it looks like sunless tanning products and moisturizers were the hot item over the weekend.

Sales Recap

One of my favorite parts of any Monday is recapping the weekend sales.

Sign Replacement

The Florida sun is brutal, especially on vinyl signs. I’ll be putting together an order to replace (4) monument signs, and the hours signage that appears on the front door of each of my tanning salons.

Scheduling

I like to make sure my team members have plenty of time to plan and schedule their personal lives around their work schedules. I’ll be using my VIPO web app to put together schedules for each of my salon locations for the next two weeks. I can’t say that this is my favorite task, but it goes a lot more smooth now that I built the scheduling system into the VIPO web app.

Team Recognition

Easily one of the more “fun” goals that I get to work on throughout the week. Unlike most of the other goals in my list, this is a goal that I set for myself to work on daily. After I recap the weekend, and previous week’s numbers, I take a few minutes to either email, text message, Snap Chat or post an update to VIPO Timeline recognizing awesome individual performances.

Training

I like to think of training as a constant. If I don’t have something in mind to train on specifically, I’ll randomly walk up to my ETAS team members and ask them what they would like to learn today. Today’s training topics are already picked out, I’ll be training my daughter on various social media contest ideas, and I’ll be training one of my managers on a new member reporting section in the VIPO web app.

Social Media Marketing

VIPO Web App Punch List

Building a web app takes constant review and testing. When any new module or functionality is added to my VIPO web app, I put together a punch-list of things that need to be addressed. Today I will be putting together the final punch-list for an update that was made to employee profiles. The update included a total redesign of the employee profile layout, along with the addition of a daily product sales graph. As you can see in the screen shot below, the graph isn’t displaying properly.

The product sales graph should be displayed to the right of the employee info box.

I Love reading blogs just so I can live vicariously through everyone else! No, actually I am a writer and have been since 2009, so I like to see other genres of writing. I do mainly SEO work, so literally I write about everything imaginable.

Just wanted to drop you a like and say thanks for letting me read yours and making it public so I could. Write on my Friend!

Jezz man, how do you do everything in one day? I know… you’re extremely productive and you love it! You have to love it, only people who love what they do can work this hard. My list is so different as most my day is filled with marketing and taking care of Benjamin lol. One thing anyone can take from this post, when you work smart you get more done than working hard.

Hey John,
excellent checklist to kick start a week – since we run completely different businesses, my start to a Monday is pretty different – which includes checking email and messages for most part of the morning!

however, I do a sales recap – weekends are usually slow, but still it is good to see how much we made during the weekends,
thanks,
Uttoran Sen,

Good to know others have crazy Monday juggling several businesses at the same time . Everyone thinks it’s so easy and/or cool to own a biz, and it is, but they forget you still have to deal with all this stuff. I have a new startup Zip Scanners in addition to a few others. Anyway – good to know I’m not alone:)

Hi John, your website inspires, greeting a success

Usually my goal for Monday the same: wake up in a good mood! Very nice to see someone who knows what he wants. Such people achieve much in life. I wish you success in all things!

wow, looks like you could be a powerful businessman, I can see it from the article that you wrote

Planner, even small business must have one!

Good article about monday goals. I personally like Mondays because I see a chance in in every Monday to make the rest of the week as relaxed as possible. So my goal would be: do as much as you can on this first day of the week so the rest of the week is going to be easygoing :)

Damn – that’s a busy day – are all your days that packed?

Hi John! That’s an interesting way to deal with Mondays, but I wish there were no Mondays at all 😀

Hi John,

Training and recognition vibe with me. I start each day with deep meditation, prayer, and a gratitude list. Then I move into appropriate acts each Monday, or every day, according to my intuition.
