A Day in the Life of.. Episode 4 [video]

by Extreme John on February 18, 2010 |

Before I get going with the fourth episode of A Day in the Life of Extreme John I would like to welcome any first time readers that might be coming through my blog for the first time. Too get anyone that might have missed out caught up as well as any new readers caught up on what the whole “Day in the life of” crap is all about I’ll take a second to explain it. Basically I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago asking everyone here on my blog what they would like my 1000th post to be about, the “making a video thing” came up again and I finally decided to do it. I honestly never thought anyone would really care about seeing what I do on a daily basis, but what the hell do I know right? My boy James from MMA Punk has been telling me to do videos for probably a year or so now, most of you that subscribe to my rss feed know that I pretty much never do videos here and when I do videos I usually hate them.

Anyway, no sense on dragging this out longer that I need to, here’s the fourth episode in the series of videos that will take you through my day on February 5, 2010, or at least most of it.

I hope you enjoy the fourth episode of A Day in the Life of Extreme John

A Day in the Life of Extreme John

Before I get out of here I will say that doing this was pretty weird and I still hate the videos, hopefully a few of you will find a few of the episodes to be decent. I will be releasing the next video on Monday at 10pm EST, I will continue posting a new video every Monday and Thursday at 10pm until the videos are done, better set those reminders now…. haha.

Leave a comment and let me know what your thoughts on the first video are, I tried to keep each video short and sweet.

Check out A Day in the Life of Extreme John Episode 3 if you missed it.

Video doesn’t work – same as with video 2, it’s listed as “private” so can’t see it.

@Klaus @ TechPatio, both videos are no longer in “private” mode… Sorry about that, hence the reason I hate scheduling sometimes.

Yay – now the video works, thanks.

Crazy regarding that alternator. Hope you can get it fixed?

It was nice to see that black Mustang as you walked by, I looooved my Mustang rental in the US last summer. I’m not getting one this summer because I’m going to the east coast, probably a Grand Marquis or something :(

@Klaus @ TechPatio, it should be illegal to go from a Mustang to a Grand Marquis…. haha

@Extreme John, Exactly!! But it’s a lot cheaper for me to rent through the travel agency than directly from Hertz and so I have to accept a limited selection of cars – they only have “fun cars” available in California and Florida etc, not on the East Coast. They did offer me a Lincoln Navigator though, but nooo thanks – way too big :)

@Klaus @ TechPatio, hey Klaus don’t write off the Navigator, I rented one of those from Hertz in New York once and LOVED IT! Awesome truck to drive and as easy to drive as a car, has balls too.

@Extreme John, really? Hmm, I don’t know if it’s too late to change, I already booked the trip. I guess I could upgrade when I come to pick it up – depending on what they have available. It’s probably not a “guaranteed model” either, but instead “Lincol Navigator or similar” -like with the Grand Marquis.

Very cool, very cool, look forward to watching the rest. I like the end how it you don’t think about or take to time to do things right it will cost you money. Just how big is your auto fleet.

Reality for sure.
I always thought that a limo business was easy.
Put in some gas, hire a driver and rake in the cash.
I see thats not the case.
Hard work and personal commitment is what it takes.
Do it, deligate it or trash it!

Your building an Empire but they come and go I think your success is based directly on your personality and the personal twist and access. Many of these kinds of businesses no longer exist because the owners got whacky once they had money. I think you could mentally maintain a 1000 times more then what you now have, it’s exciting to watch how it’s done :0) Thanks

@John Sullivan, You hit on the button John. That’s exactly why businesses come and go. John’s unselfishness and personality is gonna take him to heights that most business can’t even imagine. HIs drive and thirst for knowledge is unmatched! No ass kissin but that’s the truth.

@sangalicious1, wow Dave thank you bro that means a lot! I can’t say that sitting where I sit or doing what I do on a daily basis really warrants that kind of credit though.

For every day that I hate it, there are 10 days that I love it and it’s the love of business that drives me, not money, not success.

Extreme John February 20, 2010 at 7:37 am

@John Sullivan, trust me bro… If you ask a few apples from the bunch they will tell you that I suck at everything, that I have no clue what I am doing. In reality your right, everything comes and goes sooner or later and the chances of my luck running out increases each day that the lights manage to stay on, all I can do bro is be the best me from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed.

I appreciate the kind words, I personally believe that anyone can achieve anything as long as they are willing to put their mind to it and STAY WITH IT.

@Miss Edie, thank you so much for the kind words and taking the time to leave a comment, owning a business is an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world. If nothing else at all, I have a tremendous amount of appreciation for the things I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to learn.

Hey John, I assume the car has a sizable diesel engine, how come it doesn’t charge the batteries as it goes? Is it because you run so many lights and stuff in the vehicle itself.

I know I how upsetting it can be when drivers don’t do the simple checks like checking the oil. I did a spot check on one of the trucks only to find that the oil wouldn’t even register on the dip stick. I had to call for help because it takes two people to tilt the cab.

@Sire, the pink H2 is a non-diesel engine, Andre the Ford F-650 limo is a diesel.

The batteries do charge as they go, however with the equipment in these cars the batteries break down much faster than a battery in your average automobile.

We keep a pretty tight maintenance schedule that really takes the drivers out of the equation when it comes to checking vehicle fluid levels etc. They get lucky that way :)

Say John, just a thought, but what if you had a spare set of batteries, that way when the pink beast came in you could change the batteries for the fully charged ones and put the other ones on charges.

Like I said, just a thought. I keep a set handy just in case they fail on one of the trucks. Saved my bacon on more than one occasion.

@Sire, we keep a few batteries on backup and that is an excellent idea Sire, changing them out after each run might be a little much with 3 per vehicle.

You should have seen how many batteries we cooked when we first got the limos, it was something along the lines of $5k within 4 days on new batteries and alternators.

Reply

Sire February 26, 2010 at 1:37 am

@Extreme John, Oh, I thought it was just the pink beast giving you the hassle.

What if you installed a bigger alternator, one that could handle the load?

That’s a lot of money but then again car repairs aren’t cheap.

Do you just monitor the battery all day or how do you manage that?
