It feels like I have been waiting forever to take these pictures and show off the new Mobile Airbrush Tanning vehicle that will be servicing tanning clients that prefer uvfree tanning options. Some of you may remember that I recently announced that Extreme Tan and Smoothies started offering Mobile Airbrush Tanning services in Pinellas County and Hillsborough County Florida.
Before getting to the pictures I wanted to take a moment and share some information about why I choose a vehicle wrap as opposed to utilizing those advertising dollars on Billboards or on additional radio advertising. It seems like regardless of which marketing platform we choose people always have a curiousity about why we chose that marketing path.
Once I saw the response from the vehicle wrap we did on our first vehicle I knew I wanted to do another vehicle wrap when we released the Mobile Airbrush Tanning services concept, the response to vehicle wraps is excellent. When it comes to vehicle wraps the price can be shocking to some, especially business owners that don’t have much experience with advertising and marketing their products.
Over the past 10 years I have tried Gorilla Marketing on any of the business’s I have been involved in or directly owned and operated, being a Gorilla Marketer I am constantly looking at different marketing outlets. I have placed ads marketing Extreme Tan and Smoothies just about everywhere, meanwhile I can run into ten people in a day that have never heard of Extreme Tan and Smoothies which is mind boggling knowing the amount of advertising dollars we have spent growing the Extreme Tan and Smoothies brand over the last five years.
Here are a few of the marketing avenues I have used over the past few years branding the Extreme Tan and Smoothies, Inc. brand.
Billboard Advertising
All though billboard advertising is not available in every city, and not every billboard offers great exposure if you have an excellent sales rep and you take the time to pick your billboard location billboards can generate a tremendous amount of buzz in a very short period of time. Billboard advertising is still one of my favorite forms of advertising that I still continue to use.

Mobile Airbrush Tanning Billboard
- Large double sided billboards – I love the beastful billboards and have used them for five years
- Smaller boards known as “Paper” boards – Perfect for more exposure in various areas without the inflated cost of the big boards
- Bus stop – A tremendous amount of exposure offering an excellent ROI
Print and Direct Mail Advertising
Sent conveniently to local residential areas or high volume local business’s for convenient potential customer pick up. Printed or hung on a bathroom wall, it feels like we have done them all.
Money Mailer Print Advertisement
- America’s Favorite Coupon Book – All though not directly mailed, AFCB is displayed in local high traffic business’s and has an excellent ROI
- TBT
- Money Mailer
- Val-Pak
- Clipper Magazine
- Best of the Bay
- People’s Choice
- Stall Mall
- DuPont Registry
Radio Advertising
Radio advertising carries a big punch along with a big price tag, you get what you pay for when it comes to advertising. However one of the key things in regards to purchasing radio advertising is the coverage area, it is much less controlled than Billboards and direct mail marketing options. If you have a single location that can only service a smaller number of customers, you will probably not benefit from the large coverage area of radio advertising and find your ROI isn’t really what you expected.
Customer Calls Wild 98.7
Mentions Extreme Tan and Smoothies and Insane Limos
- Wild 98.7
- 93.3 Flz
- The Beat 95.7
In addition to the marketing options listed above that I have used over the years, we have also done television advertising as well as sponsoring events, marketing in ten local school newspapers and we have even done the table toppers that display your business cards under a protective surface at local eateries.
Extreme Tan and Smoothies Mobile Airbrush
One of the main reasons I decided to go with a vehicle wrap as opposed to going with additional radio advertising or additional billboards is the overall cost, let’s face it we are all in a tough economy and you need to make smarter long term advertising decisions. A vehicle wrap like the one you see below cost just under $4,000, which is certainly not pennies in a sack. However if you compare the different forms of advertising available, the vehicle wrap becomes one of the more inexpenssive high exposure advertising options out there.
- At $4,000 a vehicle wrap will cost you $10.95 per day for a year
- A vehicle wrap has a life expectancy of approximately 3 years
- At $4,000 a vehicle wrap will cost you $3.65 per day over a three year period
- There is no long term contract on wrapping a vehicle
- Vehicle wraps are at eye level, not in the sky and not something you need to hear to be made aware of the product
- A vehicle wrap offers a tremendous amount of display area
- Three potential years of advertising vs the cost of one month of radio, or tv advertising
Mobile Airbrush Tanning Florida
There is no doubt that vehicle wraps are one of my favorite forms of advertising, it allows us to expose our product or service in a colorful and very professional manor to potential and existing customers. We have had an excellent response to both of our vehicle wraps, our Mobile Airbrush Tanning vehicle wrap really allows us to track the success because we display the Mobile Airbrush Tanning phone number on the sides and back of the vehicle.
If you are looking to have a vehicle wrap done to one of your business vehicles check with your local sign company, we use Signs Now for all of our indoor tanning salon signage as well as all of our vinyl sign needs as well. Ahh good Im happy that someone enjoyed the article, sometimes you write these things and have no clue if anyone actually pays any attention to what your writing.
After writing the article I quickly realized I left some key advertising points out in regards to what we do with our website advertising, etc. I need to write another article covering some of those bases as well as showing the different expense of those ad's vs self marketing.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, I greatly appreciate it.

@Mike yeah thats gotta go, I was going to have it erased from the picture but didn’t want to mess with how it actually was the day the vehicle wrap was done.

I am working in an advertising field. In my view Radio advertising is more effective than other types of advertising as it reaches more peoples.

@Robert man Radio is an excellent advertising choice due to it’s exposure, however as noted above it doesn’t mean it’s cost efficient for all business’s to utilize.

John, very insightful article that I enjoyed reading. There are a lot of companies that could learn a lot from you! As you point out there are numerous ways to advertise a business. The advertising mediums businesses being considered are important to the industry that is marketing and who the audience is that you are targeting.
John, you are very savvy business man, especially when it comes to marketing your businesses. Since sales are ultimately what drive a business to succeed, you understand the power of integrating various forms of advertising to establish your brand and make your audience recognize it – and respond to it!
No company should rely solely on one type of advertising if they really want to grow their business. I completely agree with your thoughts that radio and TV are too expensive for most businesses. Billboard advertising can definitely create awareness and help in branding, although this medium is pertinent to specific types of businesses. Additionally it can be difficult to track. Vehicle wraps (basically mobile billboards) can be a very cost-efficient way to generate awareness throughout your community. If sales are up during an integrated marketing campaign, then they are most likely all working together to help you brand your business. The more times and the more places you can reach your audience, the more likely you are to capture their business.
Direct response marketing and direct mail advertising are the easiest to track due to the tangible results when customers redeem their special offer or coupons. Additionally direct mail offers the most targeted form of advertising. Direct mail is the #1 advertising medium after radio and tv in terms of dollars spent annually. Considering the hefty price tag of radio and TV, that says a lot about the success business have using direct mail to generate both immediate responses, as well as future business which occurs from repetition. The most important thing to consider when advertising is Return on Investment. Across all industries, direct mail averages $18 in return for every dollar invested. Now, if you gave me a dollar, and I gave you even just a $1.50 in back in return, would you be happy with that investment? I hope so – I’d do it all day long! Now how about if I gave you $18 back? Hell yeah! In my direct response business, we offer integrated marketing including the Money Mailer envelope, direct mail post cards and flyers, local Internet coupon distribution, and mobile opt-in text messaging programs. The biggest mistake businesses make is not allowing enough time to make their campaign “work”. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “I tried that once and it didn’t work. Hello? Repetition, Repetition, Repetition. Every “touch” brings you one step closer to earning a new customer.
All the while, here at http://www.moneymailer.com, we encourage businesses every day to keep doing what’s working and increase their budget to try other advertising (such as ours). While that makes sense in theory, you’d be surprised how many businesses do not understand how to effective advertise and market their business – and how many companies don’t even try new advertising. Isn’t there a saying about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Well, unfortunately that’s what prevents a lot of businesses from realizing their dreams. John, I applaud you for your advertising marketing success. Keep doing what works and keep testing out new possibilities!

I think TV is on the way out for advertising, less people are watching it. People will choose to watch TV for the BIG GAME and there is advertising, but people now have choice and are choosing what they watch. Radio is ok for local advertising only. Advertising globally is the key.
