Backlink Checker for Counting Backlinks

I can get hooked on a topic and spend hours searching for tools on the web with search engines like Bing and Google, as I mentioned in my [intlink id="2830" type="post"]Bing Webmaster Tools[/intlink] article Bing is my search engine of choice. I can’t even remember how I ended up looking for something to check backlinks for free, keep in mind I am a stats maniac and love numbers, not to mention I never checked my Google backlinks or even tried to get backlinks until recently. I really don’t try that hard to be honest, it was just a good sentence closer.

Anyway as I visit the various blogs and webmaster resource blogs out there I am constantly hearing about “Backlinks” and how important it is to [intlink id="2649" type="post"]build your backlinks[/intlink], you would be surprised how many bloggers could care less about Google PR or search engine rankings. It’s all about building your backlinks or getting free quality backlinks to your site which will in time increase the overall popularity of your site, or maybe everything I wrote is wrong but it sounds about right.

Extreme John shows 31,111 Backlinks in these results

Backlink Watch gives more detailed results in regards to Do Follow backlinks and how many outbound links a site linking to you has, this Backlink checker tool also includes Google Page Rank. One downside to this backlink counter is that it’s slow gathering the full detailed results.

Smart Page Rank Backlink Page Rank Checker

Backlink Page Rank Checker

Backlink Page Rank Checker

Smart Page Rank reports “about” 31,010 backlinks

I actually like each of the three free backlink checker tools above for various reasons, I like how fast the Smart Page Rank Backlink Checker is and I also like how it reports the site linking to you along with that sites Google page rank. I enjoy the Market Leap backlink checker tools, they offer a search engine saturation tool as well as a keyword tool that come in handy, I like all the information that is returned from Backlink Watch I just wish it was a little faster.

Three Ways to Increase Your Backlinks

  1. CommentLuv – leave comments on blogs like Extreme John that use the Comment Luv plugin
  2. Do Work – yeah work, visit and comment on blogs that fit your niche, read others comments and visit their blog and comment
  3. Guest Post – find blogs that fit your niche and write guest posts, you always get a link back

Building backlinks is not something you want to try and do over night, and there are all kinds of little “build backlinks fast” schemes on the internet, I would suggest avoiding them and sticking to doing some leg work on your own. Save the money you would spend on backlink building tools and backlink building websites that can actually hurt your search engine rankins, instead use your spare time to build your blog network, twitter network and any other network you can. Building networks is what builds backlinks.

Ok I did my part now that I snuck this in out of nowhere and missed the movie Cars on Disney channel I think the least you can do is leve a comment or maybe go super crazy and subscribe to my rss feed, and if your feeling super sexy than you might consider following me on Twitter. Either way do something, Retweet this baby!

Since you missed Cars (which is a great movie) for us… of course I will leave a comment John. Thanks for the info. I just tried the MarketLeap link checker and I was extremely happy with the backlinks we have so far. Way more than I ever thought. I am interested to see what type of PR ranking we will get whenever Google updates. Thanks again John… very useful post indeed.

P.S. You kill me how you have so many businesses, a family, and you still turn out kickass posts! You are my HERO!

I thought I was going to have to come back and write how embarrassed I was about my previous post. I went back to the backlink checker and checked my stats again and it only said I had 5 inbound links and I couldn’t believe it, so I tried it again with the same results. So I was going to come back and tell you guys what an idiot I was. Then by chance I added www. to the front of my domain and there the links were. So if you are checking your backlinks makes sure to try inputting your domain with and without the www. to get your real results :)

Backlink Watch is currently my favorite one to check backlinks. Market Leap Backlink Checker service is good but the design is pretty Ugly. Yuk..

I tried SmartPageRank service long back but the site wasn’t working properly at my home so I never visited it after then. But I think I will try that site today again :/

@Doug Dillard haha as much as I appreciate that, Im not sure I am fit to be anyone’s hero, haha. You kill me Doug, I constantly want to do more.

Yeah without the “www” can yield some less than favorable backlink results. The most important thing is that your happy with your backlinks count, now you can build on it.

@Hard Rocking South African hey comments are what makes a blog go around right :) I like hearing everyone’s feedback on the various things I throw up here on a daily basis, plus I have met some great people in the comments section here.

@Typhoon I do like backlink checker it has a nice new age or “web 2.0″ look to it, I prefer that look over the others I checked out.

@Greg Ellison happy I was able to expose you to some of the new backlink services

@Stefan yeah the one thing I have come to learn is that the web certainly isn’t short on various opinions, I think the most important part is to write about what you enjoy, everything else just falls into place.

@Karen your blog just keeps growing and growing you do an excellent job over there at Blazing Minds, and your an excellent blogger to follow on Twitter.

@Obias thank you for dropping by and including the link, I really like the look of the site and it takes seconds. Very clean, thats getting bookmarked :)

John… you wrote “Yeah without the “www” can yield some less than favorable backlink results.”

I noticed it depends how you have your WP blog set-up under “General Settings”. Some bloggers setup their blog with www. in the front and some don’t.

Example: if you do a link check check for http://www.DeneilMerritt.com you do not get very many results… but if you search DeneilMerritt.com you get a ZILLION!

Does anyone know why some people setup with the www. and some don’t? Is there an advantage to one or the other?

@Doug Dillard you know that’s a pretty good question Doug, I did notice on a few of the backlink checker sites it mentions doing with or without the “www”.

I guess it just depends how the user sets up their blog, all though I wonder if it has to do with something else I read about. I can’t remember the exact terminology of what it is that I am talking about, as funny as it might be but I read something about having something setup properly so that Google can rank properly.

@Asswass just check out the article that I posted it will show you exactly how to get your site indexed by Bing.

I agree with your three ways to get backlinks but there’s one thing i have to admit. And that is the time it takes to post comments is not worth it most of the time. Usually because the blogs that have dofollow plugins installed eventually ends up disabling it due to various reasons.

Thanks for the tools. Keeping track of backlinks are important. And – sure – commenting on people’s blogs is one way of getting a link. I think of it as a win-win situation as long as the one giving the comment adds value to the page by putting in a thoughtful comment in there. It’s the thought that counts and if there’s no thought put into it, that counts . . . against them.

Hi, nice article, im just building a xl sheet now and thought id go searching for some easier means of keep track of links, but sourcing and keeping track is a different story eh, so i think a mix of the tools and xl will have to do the job:

@Doug & John.

www and non www prefix is another seo tactic, its basically used to stop the search engines viewing your site as duplicate content, its also used to consolidate all your links to one domian, its called a cannonical url. Basically you choose which url you want to keep and redirect the rest. You may be suprised at how many urls a standard site can be reached from.

www, non www. forward slash, .php/html or whatevr it is, .index etc etc etc. Having just one is a good idea all round.

Google doesn’t give an accurate number of backlinks unless you’re signed into webmaster tools. Running your url through the link: operator is only going to show high PR links.
