Be honest you know it hurts
From time to time I run into people that I have either worked with at different companies or that have worked for us at one point or another in our business. Everyone is different and when you run into those people that you have not seen in a while you have all kinds of options of things you can talk about. Typically you will talk about stuff you have in common, most cases the time when they worked for you or maybe a discussion about the new company they might be working for in the same field they worked for you in.
I will never understand why (and I have written about this before) people feel inclined to put on an act for no reason, especially if you know them and have known them for a long time. The next level of this is when you actually talk to someone pretty often that you had that same work connection with or whatever. And they still feel the need to put on a big show or talk like they are something they are not about something they shouldn’t be talking about.
Recently there is this one person I use to deal with on a pretty consistent level and they moved on to do other things, no hard feelings, no issues, simply time to move on if you know what I mean. Now every single time I talk to this particular person they have a different story about the business they are involved in. Thats not a big deal and something I pretty much blow off and can’t be bothered with.
Not too long ago we did a special at my Extreme Tan and Smoothies Indoor Tanning Salons (see blog here) offering some pretty amazing specials to our customers. For whatever reason this particular special for an Unlimited Month of Tanning for ONLY $9 in our upgraded 20 minute tanning beds, made this person really step up the big show. By big show I mean they went ou of their way to contact me and comment on the specials we were running and did it in a way to almost “warn us” of the issues that such a special could cause for us. As if they are really concerned about what the special might do to us as a business? They don’t care because they are in the same business and we are kicking their ass with the specials we run.
I though this was pretty comical and I had to write a post about it. I think it’s hysterical that someone would contact me in regards to our specials and the aggressive nature of those specials when that same person has their own aggressive specials. I think what upset them was the fact that our specials ere simply better, our marketing strategy for those specials created excellent results and responses from our tanning clients. If that person reads my blog I guess the one thing I can say to them is, “I know it hurts but it’s not a personal thing, it’s a business thing. We run specials because we can and we will continue to run them however we want to, I am sorry if if adversely effects the business you happen to be in.” Nothing nasty just the facts, it’s business.
