Earlier today after I finished taking pictures of the new tanning lotions on the front counter of our North Clearwater tanning salon, I jumped in my car and started to head home. This was no big deal, it’s an everyday occurrence to some degree.
My journey home today was a little different in the respect that it took me past a few locations where some of our tanning competitors use to exist, this of course triggered my first thought which is always how sad the realities of business can be sometimes. As I drove past the last empty tanning salon and looked at the “For Lease” sign in the window and listened to the music on my iPod I moved on to my next thought, Extreme Tan and Smoothies is THE BEST TANNING SALON IN FLORIDA.

Right about now the massive list of people that hate Extreme John and loath the existence of Extreme Tan and Smoothies would love to tell me to go screw myself, and the 100′s of thousands of satisfied tanners and hardworking associates of Extreme are thinking…. “You know what? He’s right, Extreme Tan and Smoothies is the best tanning salon chain in Florida”
People can say what they want to say and they can think whatever they want to think, but the fact remains that no one has done it like Extreme Tan and Smoothies has done it over the last 5 years, NO… BODY!!! (New York style baby!) On any given day of the week you might find me in a conversation running my mouth about the many accomplishments of Extreme Tan and Smoothies, and trust me I can rattle them off like there’s no tomorrow and no worries it’s always nothing but the facts.
At this point in the mix it’s probably important to mention that this is NOT a paid advertisement for Extreme Tan and Smoothies, the fact is that all though I am the CEO of Extreme Tan and Smoothies, Inc. I have yet to ever receive a paycheck for this project. Of course my opinion is going to be biased and of course my passion for Extreme gives me some kind of crazy right to run around saying that Extreme Tan and Smoothies is the best tanning salon in Florida.
I’m sure that I am getting way ahead of myself and even larger than my egotistical mind might allow me to be, reality would probably be that another tanning salon company in Florida has probably tanned 750,000 people or even done more spray tans than the 5,000 I am constantly screaming about. Maybe I should have gone a little smaller scale with the title, maybe something like “The Best Tanning Salons in Tampa Bay” or “The Best Tanning Salons in Clearwater“, than I would have to write that like six times for “The Best Seminole Florida Tanning Salon“, “The Best Tanning Salon in Largo Florida“, “The Best Tanning Salon St. Petersburg Florida“, and “The Best Tanning Salon in Pinellas Park Florida”.
Through the years as we changed the face of indoor tanning in this part of FloridaI have watched local news companies run to some newbie tanning salon owner to do interviews about hot tanning topics in the news. I have seen tanning salons featured in popular tanning magazines in articles like “The Top 250 Tanning Salons” and laughed.
I also find it pretty funny that in this area of Florida some company publishes something called “The Best of the Bay”, yet another local publication that we have been snubbed from while they feature tanning salons that are without a doubt very nice, but salons that haven’t satisfied a fraction of the customers that Extreme Tan and Smoothies has. All though for some reason this year, they didn’t list a Best Tanning Salon 2009 in their Best of the Bay 2009.
Now don’t get me wrong Extreme Tan and Smoothies has been featured in three different tanning articles, two of which were “Thank You” full page ads from RSun Tanning in regards to our record setting lotion sales, the other magazine article was an interview with yours truly where I answered a few questions and they pointed out some things in regards to our growth in our area. We were also featured in the TBT for our spray tanning services, one of the reporters tried our spray tan services and liked the instant results so much that she wrote a nice big fat column about it.
Call it however you see it, in my little world and in this part of Florida Extreme Tan and Smoothies is the Best Tanning Salon in Florida, The Best of the Bay, a Top 250 Tanning Salon, The Best Tanning Salon company in Pinellas County and the leading provider of indoor and sunless tanning services. Hey, it’s my own little head and my own little world, you certainly don’t have to agree with it or like it.

P.s. I’m not really sure why but for some reason the best tanning salons are always based on decor and not accomplishments, I could give two shits if we are the prettiest thing on the block. Our customer service, cleanliness and overall customer satisfaction are the most important things to us, and our accomplishments speak louder than words. . Let the pretty salons be the “best”, we will just continue to take care of customers and ensure that we have the best indoor tanning staff ANYWHERE.

I’m pretty sure their watts(in the beds) tend to be a bit stronger and their prices are a fragment lower than the others regularly year round. Not to mention there are certain holidays that bring upon serious deals that NOBODY comes close to.
Now, I do believe that you have accomplished a great deal with Extreme Tan and Smoothies and kudos to you for that. What strikes me most is that you have continued in a competitive business for so long and still manage to keep on growing. Nothing beats that bro, congratulations and keep it up.

Well maybe you should branch out to other sunny states like California maybe? But that’s like thousand of miles away, not sure how that will work out.
@ZXT, if anything I would expand into Tennessee it has a market that is growing VERY quickly.
All other things being equal, shiny happy looking things attract more monkeys than not.
I face this issue daily. I write beautiful, literate code. Like poetry. But my design skills don’t extend into the visual.

Honestly though, the fact that you have put Extreme Tan where it is today only goes to show what a great businessman you are.
My brother and I had a Deli many years ago, and not 30 meters away there was another one whose owner thought he would be able to close us down by having lower prices.
Within a couple of years we bought him out! How, by providing better customer service. I reckon you know what that is all about.

Sometimes people are more impressed by the building (which looks pretty good) and decor of an establishment. But the most important part is really the results. Are the customers who come in completely satisfied? If yes, then that is the right indicator for being the best tanning in your area, not who spent the most on fancy furniture or design.

Extreme Tan & Smoothies Rocks. I don’t tan but I have looked at other salons and yours is the more innovative and Extreme.
I met Jim Thome and Brooke Hogan there. Not to mention Miss December(Raquel Gibson) comes through every once in a while. I’m talking playboy. Hot!!!! The place has style and an atmosphere you can get addicted too, no doubt.
