First up this morning: iPhone 5 Countdown: When Can You Actually Buy One? If you are an Apple fiend like me then you’ve been wondering about the release of the iPhone 5, well you don’t have to wonder anymore because a tentative date has been released for its launch: October 6th, 2012. Do you keep up with all of the newest releases? Will you be waiting in line for this one or will you be holding out for a while?
Also in news this morning: Google+ Now Open to Everyone. If you remember when Google+ first came out it was invitation only, in fact it stayed invitation only for the longest time and to be honest I was getting a good laugh out of how many Google+ invite requests were showing up all over the place. Well apparently the invite only idea has gone out of the window because Google+ is now open to anyone and everyone.

Lastly this morning: Does College Matter for Entrepreneurs? It’s no big secret that college and I weren’t compatible, in fact a whole slew of successful entrepreneurs did not go through the college experience. This article caught my eye for that very reason. It’s a short article but worth the read. Where do you stand on entrepreneurship and college?
Parting Shots
My favorite article this morning was actually the article on college and entrepreneurship. It may have been a small article but I found it to be entertaining and it hit close to home as well.

I’d like to comment on the subject about College Entrepreneurs. I say education is a great thing to have, but life and experience is even greater. What i got form my college is the ability to search and find a solution for a problem that occurs in front of me. I certainly did not remember every word of every book at read on college, but i learned how to stand on my feet and find the answers by my self. That on the other hand did not teach me to delegate tasks for example and how to support team member i manage on their way to professional growth. That is something i had to learn while working and most of the learning was done on my own mistakes again.:)
The entrepreneur and college article was the most interesting for me as well. I don’t think a college degree is necessary in doing well in business but I still see the importance of an education for everyone.

I like the article regarding college too…Now I attend college and at the same time I’m triying to earn some bucks from a small home business.
Unfortunately during autumn/winter and during exams session,I cannot handle both college and job and at moment college is my first choice

Today in the morning my friend has told me that Google + is now open for every one. There is no need for invitation.I feel very pleasure by reading the same news here.
Here’s the thing John : obviously a lot of successful people haven’t gone to College. And a lot successful people HAVE gone to College.
The question is.. what’s more likely?
Personally I think a successful person has more likely gone to College.
However I think this is not a causation thing, more a correlation thing.
A smarter, driven person is more likely to have gone to College (sure, you see some drop-kicks in College but a lot less compared to the local K-mart).
So what I think is this : if you are smart and driven, you are more likely to “succeed” and that the fact of whether you have been to College or not has not much real bearing on it. In addition it’s much more important to be driven than to be smart.
Saludos
Mat.
In real life, earning a college degree is indeed an edge but it can never guarantee success. You are right, most of the people who are successful billionaires right now have now didn’t finish college. For entrepreneurs to become successful is not solely based on your college degree.

I went to college and stopped after 2 years. It just wasn’t for me. I think getting an education is important, but college isn’t for everybody. I know plenty of people that didn’t go but still make a great living.

When I was growing up, college was not an option. My parents couldn’t afford to send me and I worked to help support the family. In a four year tour in the Air Force, I took many courses in subjects like accounting, taxation, and business. I became a banker where a college degree was required. Again, with a high degree of “confidence” I convinced one large bank to give me a shot and they did. I worked my butt off with long hours and had no problem beating out everyone else for promotions. I retired fairly young as a Senior VP and began a new career with my own accounting and tax practice. Again, with long hours and some butt kissing, I now turn away new business, as I enjoy working with websites more. I’ll retire shortly and spend all of my time with my internet endeavors. So, for me college was not necessary nor do I believe it would have helped much. For someone else, perhaps it would.

Hi Gustav, thanks for the great comment and taking the time to read my blog I appreciate it.
It sounds like I’m a lot like you, college wasn’t an option for me either all though I tried a community college for about 3 days before bailing. I loved the idea of the girls, hated the idea of continuing school and honestly wasn’t good in school anyway. Instead I worked, worked, worked, thought about working and worked a little more. It’s a lot of what I do now, well up until about six months ago when I started to relax things a bit. I’m looking forward to focusing more on the internet in my coming years as well, hopefully sooner than later.
I noticed such a rush of new folks on Google+ when it went public, not only because anyone could join, but also because Facebook had a major, not well received, interface overhaul. I’m really diggin G+ by the way, what are your thoughts on it?

It’s looking like GooglePlus is over the 50 million mark, but it has a long way to go. Facebook is doing a good job of pissing people off, me being just one of the many.
I think if we have already decided to be an enterpreneur then we must study only the relevant subjects in the college and also ensure that whatever we are studying will add value when we become an enterpreneur. I think we must not waste our time in irrelevant subjects and topics in college.

Focusing in on specific target areas will certainly offer greater results when the young entrepreneur is ready.
College isn’t really teaching you anything, it’s all about self-learning. If anyone tells you that college is needed to be successful is totally wrong. The key to be successful is to have a love for education and you can get that anywhere. It has been shown that entrepreneurs having an education level equivalent to a master degree or above.
