It’s yet another Friday here at Extreme John and that means that it’s time for some weeks end business news in the daily Business Blitz! Today’s business blitz post is filled with a pretty diverse round up of articles and news for small business owners and entrepreneurs.

Hot Business News For May 27th, 2011

First up this morning in business news, Google makes headlines again with their announcement of the launch of Google Wallet. This mobile payment system is set to launch later this summer and will require users to link their Google user account with a Google Wallet account so that after entering a PIN their phone can be transformed in to their wallet. While some are praising this system as an innovation there are those of us who have concerns over the security factor…how will things pan out? There is no telling until the initial launch provides some solid data.

Next up this morning Ellen Yu is back with another great article to remind business owners to make sure that their businesses are prepared just in case disaster strikes. This article couldn’t come at a better time considering the severe weather patterns currently ravaging the country. Yu reminds us all about the importance of backing up data and being prepared in case disaster should strike!

Also making news this morning, Annie Mueller shares an article that highlights 27 small business mistakes that have already been made and what was learned by those who made them. This article is particularly interesting for small business owners because it is always easier to learn from examples and to look out for perils when you know what it is that you are looking out for! I know that I’m guilty of committing a few of these small business sins myself, how about you?

Last up this morning an article after my own heart: 5 Secrets To Getting Celebrity Love For Your Products. Small business owners and business owners in general always tend to underestimate the power of a celebrity face behind their product and for those who don’t there is the belief that a “celebrity would never endorse me.” This assumption couldn’t be further from the truth, however, as this article illustrates, there are a number of things that you can do to get a celebrity face behind your product or service!

Parting Shots

Today has been a good day of mixed bag business news with quite a few tips and tricks to think about over the weekends. I had a difficult time selecting a favorite article for the day, there were so many good tips and tricks for small business owners that I couldn’t just select one.

Your Turn

Have you made any of the small business errors in the Annie Mueller article listed above? Leave a comment and share your experiences!

Google wallet sounds great on paper, but security seems like a hurdle they will have to jump over. Just look at the huge PlayStation leak with millions of credit card numbers lost. I don’t trust these “large target” card storage centers.

Hey John – firstly, cool blog! The Google Wallet item is an interesting one. In the UK Barclay Card and Orange (one of our cellular carriers) teamed up recently to offer a digital wallet linked to your phone. Apparently there are already 10,000 cafes/bookshops/shops that offer the service up to around 15 pounds ($20ish) Now Google is jumping on the bandwagon. It’s strange how it has taken soooo long to build momentum in this market. How long have companies been promising phone based micro payments? Perhaps the day is finally here for consumers.

As a footnote, apparently PayPal is suing Google as they believe they have the patent on Phone Payment Systems. I think they also probably object to the PayPass branding which is pretty similar in my eyes!

Google is always up with something exciting and unique.
Second up was the weather article that emphasizes about the future planning. Its is very important for everyone out there to take precautionary measurements in advance so that if something bad happens than at least the data is saved and useful info is still with you.

I am very excited for Google Wallet; though I have an iPhone. I would love to see the iPhone come out with some kind of “wave to pay” or “mobile payment system.” Unfortunately, I don’t think the next iPhone (iPhone 4S) will have that tool.
