We’re rolling in to another week here at Extreme John and that means that it’s time for some hot business news headlines in the daily Business Blitz! Today’s business blitz post is filled with tips on helping your small business to succeed and how to keep customers happy.

Hot Business News For May 30th, 2011

First up this morning an article from Mashable that caught my eye with the headline “Is There a Social Media Tech Bubble?” This information filled article compares the valuation of current social media companies to the dot com industry and questions whether the social media companies of today are headed towards the peak of their success. Is the social media industry bubble about to pop? There really is no telling but if history does repeat itself it is likely that this bubble is just about as large as it can get.

Next up this morning “Better Ways to Handle Business Conflict” by Karen E. Klein is a great article focusing on constructive ways to mediate business conflict without resorting to litigation. There are far too many lawsuits flying back and forth these days and Ms. Klein suggests that business owners look to a variety of other methods of resolving conflict before considering litigation. The best way to tackle conflict? Manage it fairly with a cool head, if this isn’t possible, bring a conflict resolution mediator in to the picture and resolve things without the expenses of courts and attorneys.

The next article that caught my attention this morning I found particularly interesting because it is something that most business owners have had to face at one time or another. “How To Keep An Angry Customer” discusses how small business owners can convert angry customers in to happy customers, citing the fact that it takes five times as much cost to attract a new client than it does to keep an old one. What is the main tip offered in this article? Solve problems quickly and to your customers satisfaction.

Last up this morning an article titled “How to Get More Yelp Reviews For Your Business.” This article is a great one for newbies to Yelp as well as those who have been using it for a while because it offers easy to follow steps in how you can increase your company’s number of Yelp reviews. Things don’t get as easy as this very often so I highly recommend taking a look through this article.

Parting Shots

This mornings business news doesn’t bring much in terms of big company news but if you are looking to run a successful business then this articles are a great place to get some ideas.

One thing to remember about the recent social media company IPOs is that LinkedIn, Facebook and Yandex are all profitable companies with solid earnings. Pets.com, Flooz.com, Psuedo.com and all those other absurd companies at the forefront of the 90s dot com bubble were entirely fueled by hype and never made a single cent of operating profit.

“Every rise has a fall.”
That is what history teaches us.
Social media is currently at the top and now it will be interesting to see what happens next :)
Will history repeat itself or will the bubble keep expanding?
I personally think the bubble will keep on increasing :)

No one now can imagine life without the social media.
People all around the world are connected to each other through social networking.
But there is still a lot more to come from this field.
I am positive about more progress of social media and I don’t think that it has reached its maximum potential.

You’re Right. Their are far to many conflicts; to name a few, Apple / Samsung. The money spent towards these lawsuits could easily be donated to the needy. It’s sad to see businesses throw so much money down the drains.

Investors want to be in on what they see as the future and this can lead to them being overvalued. Social media as a whole will continue to grow, but it is hard to say for specific companies. Something new will probably come along that will be more popular than facebook, like they did to myspace.

Extreme John,

I think it’s a little “extreme” to say the social media bubble is about to pop. It’s everywhere, I think this is actually just the beginning. With technology constantly changing, who knows what they will come up with next. Angry customers….. great customer service can solve that, although sometimes customers are just impossible. Thank you for sharing these articles :)
