Before hitting the floor running though let’s cover some business headlines in today’s Business Blitz here at Extreme John ! Today it’s time to cover a number of small business tips which include: how to grow your business with a limited budget, making events work for you, using LinkedIn to find a job and more!

Landing a Job Using LinkedIn

First up this morning “HOW TO: Land a Job at LinkedIn” by Erica Swallow at Mashable. The global recruiting company receives many more job applications annually than it can possibly begin to address but this article holds a few keys to helping you to find a job by looking within the LinkedIn system. The LinkedIn team is made up of just 45 individuals and with such an increase in applications coming through there is no doubt that the online company could use a few extra hands!

Next up an article that caught my attention because the amount of money that goes in to small office supplies for the small business is simply ridiculous. Brother actually has begun to understand the need of small businesses for affordable office equipment which is why they have released their new small-business budget printer. What is this new printer? It might not have all the fancy features of some of the bigger budget printers but for $150 it has the capability to print off more black and white pages than the average printer while saving the company the cost of ink cartridges because this printer just keeps on going!

Also in news this morning “How To Make Events Work For, Not Against You” by Carey Jones focuses on the food industry but I found the article to be applicable to small business events anyway. At my tanning business we frequently hold outdoor events to celebrate milestones and special events and quite a few of the tips in this article were helpful even though I do not yet own a food related business.

Last up this morning “How to Grow a Business (With Little Cash)” from BootStrapIt.com. One of the most important aspects of small business is to keep growing, without growth small business becomes stale and can soon begin to see a decline in profit. This article has a couple of ideas for keeping that business growth going. I can’t say that these are miracle ideas but they are good reminders for small business owners everywhere.

Parting Shots

This morning has had some good articles but surprisingly I found the food related article the most appealing this morning. It’s funny how different industries can still apply to non-related small business industries.

If nothing else at least create your account so you have it and can toy with LinkedIn in the future when it fits in to your strategy better.

The article on how to grow your business with little cash really hits home with me as I have just joined forces with two partners and none of us has a lot of cash; just great ideas. The part about rubbing elbows with bigger players through networking and following proven business models are something we are already trying to do, and it’s worked so far. I guess we have a long way to go but the future looks bright.
