Hot Business News For July 13, 2011

First up this morning Google +1 hits the news again as it is about to reach 10 million users. We all knew that Google had a pretty far reach but did any of us imagine that Google +1 would hit 10 million users so soon? It is estimated that Google +1 could possibly be one of the fastest growing networks ever! Now, if only I could grow my websites so fast!

Next up this morning “Foursquare to Offer Daily Deals From Groupon, Gilt and Others.” There have been a lot of these daily deal type sites going around lately and it seems that Foursquare wants to get in on the mix too. With over 10 million users of their own Foursquare has the reach but without getting compensated for offering these deals through other networks is Foursquare making a big mistake? What do you think?

Also in news this morning “How To Tap the World’s Largest Networking Event in 30 Minutes a Day.” If you are like me you will want to check out this article if only to see what the largest networking event actually is, but the funny thing is is that you already know – it’s Twitter. This article covers a number of tips to help you prepare to make the most of your Twitter presence using just 30 minutes out of each day. It’s definitely worth a read even if it isn’t all new information.

Last up this morning “Five Critical Questions Your Business Plan Should Answer.” This is an important article because so many businesses fail as a result of a shoddy business plan or, in fact, no business plan at all! This article covers five things that you need to ask yourself before putting your business plan in to action.

Parting Shots

My favorite article this morning has to be the business plan article because I honestly don’t think that business plans get enough credit. Give it 2 months, can’t wait to see what the numbers will be then. It’s not even close to mainstream yet either.

I think this is going to be much larger then most believe. GooglePlus already exposes the money, strategy and development muscle Google offers and GPlus isn’t even live to the public yet. I’m willing to bet this project is now one of the most focused on in Google’s arsenal and I’m willing to bet a lot of their other features will soon be added to Google+ user finger tips. I’m claiming big things to come, I think this is just a peek.

I like these little business news posts you put together, there are some really interesting articles. Of course the business plan article peaked my interest! You are so right about so many businesses failing because of a shoddy business plan, or even no plan at all. Coming up with a solid plan of how you are going to get customers is one of the more critical areas in the plan, but if you are not making enough profit from your sales, or overhead is simply too high, then you will never make it. P & L’s and cash flow forecasts sound boring, but they are essential to establish whether your idea is viable, and your business plan should be updated at least once a year.

Google plus will be huge when they release it to the public. Even now it looks a winner with limited options and integrate seamlessly to my Android phone. MS and Nokia are going to have to work really hard to win google in the cell phone markets.

That business plan article was ok and made me think a little at my business model. Altough I have a business model but I have to make sure to follow it or change it if it does not fit to what I’m doing and is it working for me.

Let me go against what everyone is saying…… here is what I think.

Google search is great, one of the most successful products ever, adwords lives off the back of this and does well – overall there is a good product.

No other google product is successful and monetized, this google +1 seems to really look like something that they are going to want to convert into a money maker and that makes me think that it might not be a success.

Google wave is forgotten,
analytics & webmaster tools makes them nothing but are good products,
Gmail lives off adsense/adwords in terms of money making,
Talk is nothing.

Will you be doing anything in detail on google +1 – I would like to have a read.

Personally I will be staying off it purely on my principle of “not doing social networks” but I will keep an eye on it.

I just got the Google +1 button installed on my blog. I have 11 likes so far. Not much, but it is a start.
