Hot Business News For August 4, 2011
First in business news this morning “5 Big Mistakes To Avoid in Your QR Code Marketing.” QR codes are spreading like wildfire as mainstream companies adopt the newest trend in product marketing but there are a number of traps that newcomers to QR code use fall in to repeatedly. Included among these commonly made mistakes: not testing the code before implementing it, serving up non-mobile pages and putting QR codes where a data signal is not accessible. Are you guilty of any of these mistakes?
Next in business news this morning “7 Things You Never Have to Do.” I admit that the title of this article is what intrigued me the most, I wanted to know just what it was that I didn’t have to do even though I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. As it turns out this article had some good stories of businesses being good businesses. I am still a little confused as to the lack of structure of this article but there are some good tips and stories for small business owners to check out if you have some time.
Also in news this morning “Do You Know Enough About Accounting?” This article is a biggie for small business owners because so many entrepreneurs go in to business without knowing just what they are getting in to financially. Everyone thinks that they have a concept of accounting but there is a huge difference between managing personal finances and managing company finances. This article covers a small business guide to accounting with tipsthat all small business owners need to know.
Lastly this morning “How Will Google+ Affect SEO?” Did you know that when your small business receives likes through Google+ that it has an affect on how you appear in Google’s search engine rankings? The biggest question raised in this article is just how is Google+ going to affect users who are not logged in to Google+ or non-users of the Google+ system. Take a look at this article and see what you think!
Parting Shots
My favorite article this morning is definitely the article on QR code marketing because I had checked out quite a few QR code marketing campaigns lately and I can’t tell you how many of them have had at least one of these issues!

John’s right that you don’t need to be sorry – I think a big part of the problem with QR codes is that they are favoured by marketers and people ‘in the know’ about tech, but most of the public don’t know what they are or what to do with them.
The point in the Mashable post about making the QR code lead to a non-mobile site is especially annoying, to go through all that trouble and then fail to offer personalised content must be frustrating for users.
Interesting article about Google Plus and search results.
I have several article directories and I am starting to see articles advertising Google Plus One packages for sale.
Watching this develop will be interesting.
Great roundup, John…:)

Hello John. I just got into QR codes using them for an offline client. Don’t know how to use yet, but it seems there’s already new technology trumping this. Will keep you up to date on my blog. I’m off to read the ‘mistakes’ post.
