Hot Business News For August 29, 2011

First up this morning: How Businesses Use Social Media for Recruiting. Social media is a good tool for all businesses – I have said it a million times and I’ll say it a million more. This article covers how businesses are now relying upon social networking in order to find new recruits for business positions, I have to say it’s quite a change to have social networking really become such a powerhouse in terms of employment opportunities. According to this article some 89% of companies will use social media in some capacity to recruit this year! That’s an incredible percentage!

Also in news this morning: 10 Quirky USB Hubs. I know this isn’t as fascinating as some of the heavier business headlines but I thought this would be a fun article to share. Check out these fun and crazy USB hubs and share which one is your favorite! I quite like the peas but I have to go with the LEGO block as my all time favorite.

Next up this morning: How To Deal With Difficult Employees: An OPEN Forum Guide. I had to include this article because every small business owner experiences a difficult employee at one time or another and there is no worse feeling than having a difficult employee but not knowing how to handle the situation. This article offers some good tips on how you can deal with that difficult employee including: facing the issue and remaining positive in interactions.

Lastly this morning: Common Mistakes to Avoid When Starting Up. Starting up any business is hard work and it can be extremely easy to fall in to common mistakes that end up claiming many start up businesses. Included in these common mistakes: draining yourself completely financially to fund your small business, ignoring strong criticism and being rigid about your idea.

I can see where company recruiting through social media is a cool trend but it can be pretty bad for those not prepared for it. I have a Facebook page that I would never want an employer to see. And my tweeting could get me into trouble at times too. It’s certainly going to prevent me from ever becoming president of the United States. ;)

I agree with Nawaz. The chance for the future business bases on social networks. We can imagine facebook, twitter will play a big role in information transferring and interaction between people. Although people aware of that, some may still can’t avoid mistakes. So your book is a must read.

I have a theory about why companies use Social Media to recruit…it’s an easy place to put your best foot forward and promote a positive image as a company…something the news doesn’t always do.

I’m definitely going to check out how to deal with difficult employees…that’s solid GOLD right there…;)
