Good morning fellow small business owners, it’s time once again to cover the business headlines in today’s Business Blitz here at Extreme John ! Today I’ll cover a number of small business tips which include: staying connected through social media, how to motivate employees and more!

Hot Business News For June 28th, 2011

First up this morning a great article from Pamela Slim at Escape From Cubicle Nation entitled “How to Stay Connected When Your Number of Connections Grows.” This is an issue I recently discussed here at the office so when I saw this article I couldn’t wait to check it out. In this piece, Pamela covers a number of ways to keep strong connections on social networks even when the number of connections that you have in those networks grows to a point where it is impossible to touch base with everyone regularly.

Next up this morning an announcement from the employment site Monster.com. According to this latest headline, Monster.com is now going to be starting their own network on Facebook. The huge employment network is now implementing an application that allows Monster users to create a professional Facebook network to help them find employment. This application, BeKnown went live yesterday but it is questionable whether this new network capability is going to be able to compete with the large social network LinkedIn.

Also in news this morning an article that should appeal to all small business owners who have ever had to deal with employees who lack the essential motivation to get the job done! “5 Easy Ways To Motivate Employees And Connect With Customers” presents a number of ways that small business owners can light a fire under those employees who lack that certain something. My favorite point in this article is that the one on one contact that employees have with customers is essentially what drives them to improve their job performance.

Last up this morning “Business and a Beer: An Entrepreneur Roundtable” from Entrepreneur magazine, an article that brings together some of the great minds from the business world to share a few small business tips. This article includes a video with some of the highlights from the roundtable meeting and rather than recap it for you, you just have to check this one out for yourself.

Parting Shots

This morning has had some really informative articles for small business minds but my favorite has to be the entrepreneur roundtable. There is nothing I love more than picking the brains of successful entrepreneurs for new ideas and that is just what this article does!

Intersting. Monster plus Facebook equals…the next generation job search.

I was actually think about creating something similar for professionals.

Maybe I could piggyback it off of something like that.

Personally, I find that nothing beats having your own website and something like that, I think, would supplement it well.

Great recommendations John.

No doubt that the Monster>Facebook connection is a huge one, might hurt LinkedIn a bit. Thank you as always Mark for the comments and reads I appreciate it.

The roundtable is a great idea. I particularly liked Krista Paul’s comment “Don’t wait for the money, because it might never come. Figure out another way to do it, and just get started.” Great advice for me and other newbies. I need to just keep going and everything will fall into place.

They are starting it on Facebook and FB is the most widely used website these days thus there could be a monster increase in Monster’s user list…

I have not read anything today related to the business world, as of yet, anyway. So your synopsis of your favorites is helpful. I’m having trouble imagining Monster using Facebook. They are both so large. Makes me wonder if we’ll encounter some slow downs when trying to maneuver around Facebook.

For me the article on how to motivate your employees sure rang true for me. I have a seasonal business so need a new set of staff each year and training and motivating them can take a lot out of me.

I liked Pamela Slim’s article. As she says, you can’t expect to keep up with 22000 followers on Twitter on a regular basis. (By the way there is an error in the link to her article).
