It’s Tuesday morning and I am ready to get down to business so let’s get going with some business headlines in the Business Blitz here at Extreme John ! Today I’ll cover a number of small business tips which include: college textbook rentals, creative ways to profile ideal customers, earning money for going green and 6 things you need to do before you start video marketing.
Hot Business News For July 19, 2011
First up this morning “6 Things You Need to Do Before You Start Video Marketing.” I am all for marketing in any way possible and you know if you have checked out my YouTube videos that I am always up for video marketing. This article covers the steps that you need to take before you pick up that camera and start rolling film!
Next this morning “Get Green For Going Green” an article that really interested me because here lately we have been taking my indoor tanning business green in every way possible. A lot of times people ask me why I am bothering to go green since it “costs so much,” but this article explains exactly why I decided that green was the way to go! Going green saves in more ways than one, look over this article an see where you could be saving by going green.
Also in news this morning “8 Creative Ways To Profile Ideal Customers,” an article that caught my attention because so much of my indoor tanning business focuses on understanding and profiling customers. Covered in this article are a number of ways to not only profile ideal customers but also to analyze weaknesses in your business’s current marketing campaign. Included in this article are tips such as: analyze your web traffic and analyzing past successes.
Last up this morning “College Students Can Now Rent Textbooks Electronically From Amazon.” Now I admit that this article has little to do with small business and more to do with big business and saving costs for parents, but as a parent I know how expensive sending kids to college can be. When I look at the cost of text book purchases I really can’t believe that colleges can get away with charging what they charge but they are about to meet up with an incredible force – Amazon.com.
Parting Shots
Of all of the articles this morning I have to say that the article on profiling customers was the one which I found to be the most helpful.

Best company for online marketing and promotion!
I have said this before and I still feel the same, I know I am in a minority.
I think I can read quicker than I can watch a video and I would rather take in info from an ebook than watch a video, saying that I understand the power of video marketing.
My real hate with it though is that I wouldnt like to see myself on a video posted online, it would be a little creepy, I am still not on a social network for that reason!

I have a hard time being on video too, so I can completley understand where you’re coming from. I do enjoy social media though, again that non-video thing all though Google+ video features are awesome.
Danika! I feel exactly the same way! Although I believe that video marketing is more powerful than a book for some people…

Going Green
I’ve already replaced my lighting bulbs a long time ago into more economical ones.
But the AC is running almost non stop. It’s the middle of the summer and we’re getting up the roof temperatures of up to 102 F (39 C). The article says the typical temperature set is 78 F lol but I keep it at a cool 68 F (20 C). Guess there goes the green out the window ?
Will be isolating the house soon though so I hope that’ll help in the long run.
John,
Interesting recommendations. I meant to tell you when I was here the other day…
Blogging is my hobby. I am actually an industrial chemist with respect to my day job…hence my avatar. I work with many bio and medicinal chemists and many times our conversations are interesting to say the least.
In reference to your indoor tanning and “going green”…not only are you performing a service for the environment of this planet that we live on, you are also promoting better health and longer life by steering people away from the sun.
Many people only think of skin cancer when discussing overexposure to sun, but there is much more to it than that. Exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation effects non-naturally induced molecular lesions in the cells of our body deep into the skin. For the most part our natural DNA repair mechanisms and algorithms can repair these with great success. However, genetic error propagates over time and builds up over time inducing increased protein deformation. Eventually, as proteins become more and more deformed over time (in successive cell generations), we begin to look more and more aged.
The more people you can convince to get spray tan as a replacement for prolonged exposure to UV Radiation the better. Ultimately, you are lengthening lives and increasing the health of the populace.
Keep up the good work, EJ. You’re doing much, much more than just tanning people.
Sincerely,

Hey Mark! Thanks for a killer comment and taking the time to explain the process and where the damaging aspects come in to play. I stopped to look for a link to an article I read this weekend about how lack of sunlight led to the death of ———– grrrr, can’t remember the name or find the link. Kind of annoys me because I wanted to use it for a different purpose, but in any case there’s a lot to be said for doing things in moderation. The reality is that very few indoor tanning salons featuring only tanning beds will be left in this country as new laws, taxes, etc. continue to pound them out of existence. Sunless will be the future, chances are we got there a little early in the game, which wouldn’t be all that bad if I wanted my future long term path to be in the tanning business, which in my case is not the case. So, we’ll see how it plays out and I’ve had the chance to learn a lot about tanning, outdoor, indoor and sunless over the years, I’ll be happy to take the business experience I’ve gained and put a few more hooks in the wat
Thanks again for a killer comment, p.s. by far one of my favorite avatars.
Hmm.. I have to say.. profiling customers will be the one most helpful to me too.. It’s a way of keeping them attached to our services and products..

Speaking of renting books – Cari just rented a book for school from one of the sites, cant remember off hand. She’s doing an online accelerated BA course and had to buy a ton of books. One was an ebook that they charged her out the ass for still!
Btw, her BA course is costing over $22,000 alone! CRAZY!
getting green for going green.. since you were really in to it I figured I’ll take your word for going green myself.. it would be a process though..
