On with another week and that means that it’s time to cover some more business headlines in today’s Business Blitz here at Extreme John ! Today I’ll cover a number of small business tips which include: how people are using LinkedIn, five ways to get started with QR code marketing and engaging more clients through social media.

Hot Business News For July 11, 2011

First up this morning “How Are People Really Using LinkedIn?” another fun article with graphs to show just how it is that LinkedIn users are utilizing the service. I found it pretty surprising to find that just 3% more individuals check in daily than those who check in a few times a week. I wasn’t too surprised though to find that the main use of LinkedIn is for the hiring of top level executives.

Next up this morning “Five Ways You Can Get Started With QR Code Marketing.” I thought it was about time to feature a QR code article because QR codes are already beginning to take over the product market and it is important that small business owners really try to stay on top of the latest trends like QR marketing. This article covers five ways that you can put QR codes to work for you.

Last up this morning an article from Entrepreneur Magazine entitled “Enchant and Engage More Customers With Social Media.” You know by now that I love everything social media and this article covers some great tips to help you to really engage clients quickly and efficiently through the use of multiple forms of social media. This article also covers a large number of tips and ideas that can help you to reach out to your employees as well!

Parting Shots

It’s a short one this morning in news headlines but of the three articles that I shared the QR code article is by far my favorite article because I can’t stress the importance of keeping up with the newest technology trends!

To me, LinkedIn came out of nowhere to become one of the top 4 social media outlets (along with Facebk, Twitter, and Youtube). I was very much into the site a couple of years ago when I was trying to get a position in the Health field. So I understand why many people other than myself would consider it more of a “career-building” place, rather than just a casual networking site like the other social media giants…

It is great that some sites do not charge for QR codes. It is really a great facility.

I read this because I wanted to learn more about QR codes, and yes the article mentioned above helped. However what I really loved were the Guy Kawasaki tips and videos in the enchant and engage article.

It would be easy to read the captions and skip the videos but you would miss “be a baker not an eater”

QR Codes are popping up everywhere but I have never seen a single person scan one. How many people have you seen scanning these codes and has you seen any increase in tanning as a result of the QR ?

I know people that personally use and love using them, it’s about 1% of everyone I’ve ever spoken to. lol Either way it’s there and it does have it’s follow, but it would be much better used in a product marketing campaign in UK as QRCodes are heavily used there and have been for years.
