Every single time this issue comes up I try to be the “bigger person” and give people a chance to right their wrong, in most cases the infringement isn’t as blatant as it is in this case, so there’s no sense on me holding back on Celeb Tans.com and the owner Aneta. In a lot of cases webmasters design websites for small business owners and tanning salon owners are no different, therefor I usually take it easy when I approach content theft. My problem with Celeb Tans and their decision to steal a video two mobile airbrush and spray tanning videos is that the videos are on every page of the website, basically Aneta would have to be blind to miss the videos being displayed on her own website. Blatant content theft.
I won’t be posting an actual link to Celeb Tans videos because I’m not looking to help a small business owner that is willing to take another business’s product and use it for their own personal gain. I will however post the ORIGINAL video along with screen shots of Celeb Tans as well as screen shots of the video of ours that they altered, actually one of the videos they altered still had the Extreme Tan and Smoothies logo at the front of it, either they didn’t have the brains to remove it or they were too lazy.

I just felt it was important to throw that in there as a reminder, do yourself a favor and create your own content, material and promotional goods. Stealing other small business owners promotional items or anything else is a terrible way to build a business of your own. Sad.

Can someone leave a comment and explain to my why business owners would stoop to the pathetic level of ripping off other people’s property, then putting in the actual work to alter it and use it for themselves. I just don’t get it, wouldn’t it just be easier to do things right the first time instead of doing crap like this? Wouldn’t do Celeb Tans and Celeb Tans.com any good if this started to rank higher in search engines then their own spray tanning site in little Columbus Ohio.

Perhaps this is why nearly 60% of small business owners fail… They fail in the process of creating their own “unique” solution. Therefore, they spend little time on research and a lot of time on company infringements… Great job celebs tan! We all understand entrepreneurs take “risks”, but perhaps your risks are stretching the limits of a true entrepreneur and gearing towards an everyday follower!

and it is easy to wrong people because it costs to much to persue them.
The only ones who make out when this happens is the lawyers because it costs you way more to file a lawsuit against them.

Same will happen in this case an every other case similar to this. Lawyers rape us to protect what is rightfully ours.

What I hate even more is when people sue over stuff like, “someone looked at my cats back foot the wrong way and now my cat is depressed, which makes me depressed, which is effecting my co-workers, which now beat their dogs when they go home so I want $4.9847 Gillion.” The tax dollars that go in to the dumbest cases is enough to fund the health care bill. Okay, maybe not that much, but at least feed a few countries.

I’m glad you caught it. And nice job firing the warning flare on here. I work in Risk Management and have dealt with a number of these situations. And most commonly, it’s exactly as you described – you either put something new up or have something that’s working – and within minutes, the exact same thing appears on someone else’s site.
But I’d be the first to warn them, the Internet is not the wild west. LOL. And you are 100% correct that infringement, even on ideas, can be very costly. I’ve had several battles over Internet content and even domains. It isn’t cheap.
So to all you copy cats, don’t be stealin from my bro, Extreme John. Come up with your own friggin content. More often than not, copying won’t have the same success anyway, but hell, maybe I shouldn’t be telling them that.

Same thing happened to me with a few articles I wrote. It took about 2 weeks of emails before the other site removed the content. It’s sad other people can’t be creative enough to come up with their own ideas.

Hi, I have had this happen to me a few times, not so much a video but photographs of work. I have contacted the offending people and had a range of excuses from them, like
“It wasn’t me, it was the web designer”, On a new site, OK I could buy this, but the two occassions this happened the sits had been up for six months or more
“It’s OK, I’m not saying its my work, just the sort of work I can do”, No, if you can do the work then do it and post photos of that
“P*** O**, nothing you can do about it”, yeah OK, i’ll just drop a quick email to your webhost with a copy of your email and see what he says.
Funny thin is that at least two of these companies went out of business within a year, thats not a good thing but it shows where their abilities lie, taking shortcuts and not learning how to run a small business properly.
