Earlier today I wrote a post “10 Reasons I Wouldn’t Copy Your Article“, it was in response to something a blogger had said to me earlier in the day on Twitter in regards to me copying one of his post titles or something like that. Crazy, I know but the drama in blog world is BRUTAL… hahaha. Sorry.
Anyway, I was sitting around listening to some of the tracks on the new Lil Wayne “No Ceilings” mix tape and relaxing
when I couldn’t help but think about how quickly this blogger “Cheddar Bobbed” himself. Some of you might not be familiar with “Cheddar Bob”, Cheddar Bob is a character from the movie “8 Mile” which starred Eminem and Brittany Murphy. In one of the scenes Cheddar Bob is screwing around with a loaded gun, something that probably seemed like a good idea at the time, the idea turned sour when Cheddar Bob shot himself in the leg with the loaded gun.
Cheddar Bob thought that blaming me for stealing his blog title would be an excellent blog promotion idea, or at least that’s what he claims was his initial thought process for blaming me for taking his article title. I personally don’t but it, but that’s not the point here.
Saving Face in Blogging
I want to know your thoughts on the situation, even though many of you have sounded off by leaving comments on the other bloggers blog and by leaving comments on my 10 reasons post. Do you think that this blogger really planned this as a promotional stint like he has now started to claim and more importantly do you think Allan Cheddar Bobbed himself and the idea backfired on him? Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.
On a side note and not looking to be a character judge, but I will say that I was pretty surprised to see that even while trying to appear to be a “good guy” and not wanting to “play bad guy” I found it odd that in linking back to my response to him he NO FOLLOWED the link. Goes to show the different level of blogger and human being as far as I am concerned, I get attacked and hook Cheddar Bob up with a couple of DO FOLLOW BACKLINKS and probably helped him to set his highest traffic day ever and you can’t do follow the link to my post? Hahaha.
Give up some Do Follow Luv – it won’t hurt.
It can be one of those dangerous nights if I keep relaxing like this.
P.s. Feel free to follow me on twitter then blame me for some shit then claim to unfollow me on Twitter (@extremejohn), or you can go bananas and connect with me on my Facebook Fan Page. If your not into being all that connected and wouldn’t mind a little reminder to come back here once and a while, subscribe to my rss feed.
P.s. 2) I hate when Dawn isn’t around, no graphics for my posts bugs me. haha. Enjoy your time off and hav a VERY Merry Christmas. Mike, I don’t miss you yet and probably won’t if you don’t send some pictures of snow.
UPDATE:
Here is an interesting take on Cheddar Bob and the whole deal.

If you think, that “nofollow” on your link is something special, then you’re wrong. If you check other posts, you’ll manage to find out, that I do that everywhere. And the only place for “do follow” are comment links.
Keep writing about me. I’m starting to like it
PS. You have some good imagination.
iWoodpecker´s last blog ..Thank You, ExtremeJohn, or Why I Blaimed John in Stealing My Idea?
@iWoodpecker, don’t worry I’ll make you famous Billy “The Kid” style. Actually I can’t even take credit for your blogging suicide, you managed to put everything in the cart and cook yourself a shit meal all on your own.
Like many in the past my friend, you will fade to the bottom of the page and along with it your short term traffic spurt will fade away too. Your minutes are numbered, celebrate them while you can.
As for the “no follow” link, take a minute and read what I wrote again, except this time when you respond keep it to the specific point. If you weren’t a clown you would have “do followed” the link, anything else you want me to teach you while your here?
@Extreme John, Ehmm.. You’re right. I’ve read incorrectly. Sorry for that, I’m tired and it’s time to go to bed.
Tomorrow will read your poetry.
iWoodpecker´s last blog ..Thank You, ExtremeJohn, or Why I Blaimed John in Stealing My Idea?
@iWoodpecker, hey just think by that time you won’t have to worry about writing any blog posts. No one will be reading anyway.
@iWoodpecker, surely this is one way of committing social network suicide… you might get a spike of traffic now but later you’ll find out it’s better to take a more sociable, friendly and diplomatic route. And I’m not even commenting on your blog because I wouldn’t want to anyway and haven’t read it except for that one lame post. Lame really specially for a newbie.
Happy holidays!!!

ExtremeJohn;
First off – Cheddar Bob – priceless! Never heard of that before but you can be damn sure I’ll be using it in the future – thanks for the hookup – hahah.
Secondly, thanks for the link to my post. Too cool man – you really put your money where your mouth is (didn’t your Mom tell you not to do that?)
Thirdly, I must be inadvertently putting no follow links on my blog – I just haven’t had a chance to get the do follow plugin installed YET! In the meantime, how can I manually code a link so that it’s a dofollow link…remember I mentioned I’m a newbie blogger(!?)
Lastly, iwoodpecker, it’s time you ended this buddy. I feel bad for you. Well, not really…

@Don Power – Newbie Blogger, thank you Don. My pleasure on the link and Cheddar Bob.
In regards to the No Follow links your not putting those in, Wordpress sets comments to no follow by default. The plugin will solve that problem for you, when you get around to doing it or if. Haha whatever you prefer.
@Don Power – Newbie Blogger, Go to your admin page in Wordpress, click on plugins/add new type in “dofollow” in the search box and you should find it, click install then activate it…done you will have do-follow comments.

@Keith, Hey Keith;
I guess SOME good has come out of this stream – I AM NOW A DOFOLLOW BLOG! YAY!
Thanks Keith and ExtremeJohn for providing that extra bit of motivation to get this done sooner rather than later.
The plugin is installed and active. Is there any way that I can test it to make sure it’s working as expected?

@Don Power – Newbie Blogger, I just looked at your site and they are do-follow now! Thanks and congrads! I have an addon on my Firefox called SEOQuake (the link is on my site in the article “What Browser are You Using) and there is a way to show no-follow links buy putting a line through them when you are viewing a site, I will have to look at my options for that plugin and get back to you, you can also view source of any page with Firefox. One reason it makes such a great browser….

@Keith,
Thanks Keith!
Ben-Lang (www.ben-lang.com) also told me that a lot of bloggers use Firefox. I’m so used to IE now, I’m reluctant to change!
But I suppose I have to be open to learning from folks like you guys – so I’ll take another look at it. Cheers!
I’m going to look up that post from ExtremeJohn where he talks about all the promotion he’s doing for DOFOLLOW blogs ( I guess one of those posts sparked this so called controversy in the first place?). I want o get hooked up with whatever promo is going around and make sure I give out as much linkluv as possible on my blog too!
Thanks again for the motivation. I owe you a reply to a comment you left on my blog too. I’m trying to get to that today before my wife kicks me off the computer!
Thanks man!

Cheddar Bob!!!! Great stuff, that guy was a real dufus!
All I can say, is his ploy may have gained him some traffic, but it certainly lost him readers, respect, a I for one, will spam bucket any comments he leaves on my do-follow blog……
Keith´s last blog ..Permalink Structure for SEO
@Keith, he has short term process thinking so he can’t really see the “other side” of things yet.
@Keith, Ah cut the kid a brake when I first started I dissed a whole bunch of people thinking I had some respect coming and THOUGHT blogging was all about US then I found out it wasn’t and that real friends are harder to get then anything. That young guy was THINKING it was cute when we all know it wasn’t but I see he may have potential just like your site that I just took a peek at and liked that permalink post

Merry Christmas everyone even u pecker

PS Maybe Pecker can make amends and be John’s Bitch for a week LOL
and if all else fails we all must forgive him it’s Christmas
John Sullivan´s last blog ..Do you want my blog ? for a week
@John Sullivan, Ok, maybe you are right. Lets all cut this kid a break, Merry Christmas Pecker! I do remember when I was new to blogging and I made, and still make, many mistakes and I am sure some people got mad at me so we can all just put this to rest.
Wait, on second thought, SCREW THAT!!!! If this kid would just retract and admit that what he did actually was wrong, then maybe I could do that. But until then, f*ck him! At least I was man enough to admit when I screwed up.
In all seriousness though, what he did could actually hurt someones reputation and he is taking it way too lightly. I do agree that he has potential, but in my 2yrs of blogging (not very long compared to many others) I have never seen someone have such disrespect for an industry that actually isn’t that hard to get into and make a living if you work hard at it.
Anyway, this is one of the great things about blogging, the interaction and ability to voice our thoughts freely is frickin’ awesome, isn’t pecker?
Okay, I have had a couple of Jack on the Rocks, so am rambling now….
Heading over to tell you why you should let me take over your blog now!

It may work for a promotion strategy to get more traffic, but I doubt such annoying thing is a good way to make friends and building profile online.
“Sigh.. what a punk.”
Having duplicate content on a site is a serious issue with Google and you can quickly lose page rank so there’s no good reason to do it. It’s lazy and stupid. I read all your content as right from your train of thought. That is pretty clear.

Love the Cheddar Bob DIG! Yah, that dude was priceless in 8Mile.
Bloggin Cheddar is a little more SPECIAL than priceless. Love how he back tracked then stated he was tired and was going to bed, EPIC tale of a fool.
Love the Extreme controversy on your posts.
Dude I am really tired and bored with you being right all the time I’m gonna climb into my car bed with my Transformers sheets and go NITE NITE.
I’ll call you from my CB radio when I get up.
Listen for my handle “Cheddar Dog” ( all you sick ones know about that )
Well, I haven’t done my research yet, but I KNOW EXTREME JOHN. John has enough that he doesn’t need to steal anything from anyone.
Being young often equals being stupid. I know. I was once young. (My heart still is, but that’s another story.) Still, when you F up, you gotta say I’m sorry. And it’s best to learn that as soon as you can. Don’t wait until you get married, cause then you’re too late.
I also know (in my young heart) that John will accept an sincere apology. So why wait any longer?

Nothing better than a little blogging drama to end the year!
In all seriousness, while I do believe in forgive (not necessarily forget, but at least forgive) I really don’t agree this is a newbie mistake. If it started off as an over-reaction, then the best thing to do is say I didn’t read it fully, and I’m sorry. Not try to turn it into something else. And if it was intentionally for promotion, there are better ways of getting promotion than blatantly lying about someone doing something malicious.
Nice humorous take on it all though, John!

Seems to me that attacking anybody just for the sake of getting extra page views or even for the purposes of an experiment is blogging suicide.
I believe that when those times when you disagree with another persons views come to cause you to write a blog post the wrong thing to do would be to viciously attack them. It’s better to state your argument as best possible and the run like hell before they kick the living shit out of you
Just kidding, what you should really do the whole time is to act like a gentleman. If they try to blow you out of the water by name calling and shit, it will just make them look bad and the same goes to you if you lose your cool.
The perfect example would be Darren Rowse when he commented on a post I did not that long ago. He was the perfect gentleman, and I reckon that earned him a lot of brownie points.
