Your business is doing great, your blog attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and you just see no reason to change whatsoever. However, you know that many of your competitors have newsletters and this thought gives you no peace of mind.
“Me Too” or I Do Really Need a Newsletter
The fact that your competitors have a newsletter while you don’t have one (yet) isn’t something to lose your sleep over. After all, nobody says that your competitors’ newsletters are making them money or carry another benefit. Though, most likely than not, your competitors do benefit from a newsletter – otherwise they would have discontinued it.
Well, even your competitors do benefit from a newsletter, this still doesn’t dictate you too need a newsletter. Your competitors’ business might be very similar to yours but this doesn’t necessarily mean you use the same strategy. This is why you can’t copy from them. Instead, you need to think with your head if a newsletter will help you or not.
Will You Benefit from Starting a Newsletter?
If you have no experience with newsletters, it might be hard to make a realistic estimate about the potential benefits a newsletter will bring you. Basically, the three major benefits of running a newsletter are that it can help you better communicate with your existing readers/clients, reach new audience, and increase your income.
When you run a newsletter, you send it via email to your subscribers. Most likely your subscribers are your existing clients who visit your site at least occasionally. When they get a new issue of your newsletter and they see something interesting in it, chances are they will be tempted to visit your site for more. This way you gain recurring visits. In the case when your subscribers aren’t your present readers/clients, the benefit is that you are gaining new readers.
The money making potential of a newsletter, isn’t to be neglected either. When you run special offers to your targeted audience, they usually convert far better than when you publish them onsite for the general population. What is more, the email list you collect is really valuable and you can use it to sell new products as well. Actually, many Web marketers consider this collection of email addresses to be the greatest benefit of a newsletter.
Do You Have the Resources to Run a Newsletter?
The benefits of running a newsletter are pretty tangible but can you afford it? A newsletter isn’t a major investment and it won’t cost an arm and leg. Basically, you need content, time, a great WordPress newsletter plugin, and you are ready to go. Content preparation is an ongoing task but if you at least partially reuse website content and don’t run a daily newsletter, it could take you as much as a couple of hours a month to prepare your stuff.
As you see, running a newsletter is neither hard, nor expensive and probably these are the main reasons why newsletters are so popular with any type and size of business. On the other hand, if your preliminary estimates prove it makes no sense to launch a newsletter and you feel even a couple of hours a month is more than you can spend on a new venture, don’t rush but leave the plan for later. If you don’t do it now, this doesn’t mean you won’t do it in better times.
