Dreadful Dunkin Donuts

by Extreme John on February 5, 2009 |

Thats right DREADFUL! Coffee drinkers can unite at all the joys of Coffee and all things Coffee from the trendy and staggering Starbucks to the old school staple in Coffee land, Dunkin Donuts. Looks like the fact that I was feeling a little sick (yeah I have a cold) and I decided not to write tonight might have opened the door to a nice early morning rant, something I havent done in a while. Im sick, not in the mood and now Dunkin Donuts has really come to my attention as a place that is a nightmare.

In my area we have 4 Dunkin Donuts which I can easily get to at any point in time, we have the one on US19 in Palm Harbor, another one on Main St. in Dunedin, one on Missouri in Clearwater and one on East Bay Drive in Largo….. All of which are easy to get to, none of which are worth going to. Yup, not worth going to. Throw your hot cups of coffee at me or whatever else, sorry but going to Dunkin Donuts is quickly becoming a thing of the past for me, and it’s not because I found another Coffee place or some trendy thing I feel I need to get hooked on. Fact remains Im not a big coffee drinker but from time to time I want to feel like a Union worker and have a cup of Coffee in my hand. Not an addict, not a trendy super star that has gto have some mega special flavor from Starbucks… Simply a Coffee poser.

Now why won’t I be trying to get through any Dunkin Donuts any time soon? Very simple, I refuse to wait on a line that goes around the effin building regardless of what time of day it is for a damn toasted bagel and a cup of coffee. Not to mention very rarely do I actually stay on the line long enough to get to the order spot and hear, “Sorry we are out of that bagel.” seems to be the norm for me, so while I wait on endless lines at Dunkin Donuts only to be let down at the end. Here is a little history about Dunkin Donuts and my luck with them over the last couple of days. Tuesday I decided in the afternoon I would stop at Dunkin Donuts and pick up a couple of cups of Ice Coffee after I picked up my son, 3:50 in the afternoon…. Line around the building, I leave. yesterday morning I figured instead of stopping at Willows Diner on East bay Dr. I would just fly through Dunkin Donuts get a toasted Bagel and a Coffee and hit the office…….. Line not around the building… Wahoo… Im the 5th car in line….. 20 minutes later I did not move one spot, I leave again. This morning I decide maybe I will hit the one on Main Street in Dunedin on the way into the office, I left a little later than usual so this should be a breeze… Can’t even see the end to the cars in order to get on line, leave again. Instead of giving up completley I decided I would hit the one on Missouri in Clearwater, it’s an old shitty one and hell they don’t even take Dunkin Donuts gift cards (not sure why that matters, I dont have any anyway), so there is no way everyone is going to the old Dunkin Donuts a this odd time of the day…. Wrong again, at least 12 cars online and a Lobby full of people, I leave AGAIN.

So what if Im a little jealous, so what if I wish we had so many lines at every single one of our Business’s that people would get so mad they would just leave, and we wouldn’t even care. In all honesty thats not true, our first salon was a friggin nightmare for the first couple of months it was open, we remodeled 4 times in less than 6 months in order to be able to accomodate our customer flow. It really is a great problem for Dunkin Donuts to have, until people really start to get sick and tired of it and don’t bother anymore. I was thinking maybe I should start an online riot by having a contest for people to post their Dunkin Donuts drive thru line pictures here on Extreme John and whoever has the worst line wins the prize. Leave a comment and let me know if you would be down for a little contest and willing to post some pictures of your local Dunkin Donuts Drive Thru line if enough people are willing to do it, I will give away $100 for first place and go from there, I will post the details if there is a big enough response, it’s a weird contest so if not we will do something else.

Haha the shitty one on Missouri is a shitty one. Yeah DD’s marketing is unreal, has always been. It works….. Now change your store format, layouts or something but change your turn around time and do it quick.

Great story! Unfortunately I never leave my house so I prob won’t venture out to DD anytime soon even though I love their coffee.

But I will tell ya what I hate about them. They never, ever, ever, ever have what I want. I swear to God it’s just an urban legend on the menu. I think it’s the supreme omelete. I’ve tried at like 6 different DDs in two states and totally different times of the day and have yet to ever try it!
Rarely do they have the bagels I want or sometimes, even any donuts.

However…..when I flew home to NY for Christmas, I got in around 9pm or something and we stopped at the DD on the way home jsut to get me soemthing warm (freaking COLD there) and the guy gave us so much stuff for free since it was the end of the night. That was cool. Free munchkins and donuts! Woo hoo!!

Free Munchkins does change everything and it might even make me take back my rant and focus on the finer things about Dunkin Donuts, but for right now it has to be called Dunkin Honuts for the simple fact their hoin’ in the cash and not doing anything to make life easier for those of us who really want to simply enjoy some fine Muffins, Donuts and Munchkins with a warm cup of Joe…. Is that askin too much Dunkin Donuts? Is it?
