Dumbest Twitter Sales Pitch Yet

by Extreme John on August 31, 2009  2,287 views

Every once and a while I have the rare chance to grab onto the moment and write an extra post that wasn’t on the planned post schedule, those posts usually turn out to be pretty decent in regards to information and traffic.

One of my recent posts titled “10 Reasons You Suck at Twitter” is one of those posts that comes to mind, I wrote it after a few too many “Get 5 bazillion more Twitter followers” Tweets from people that I mistakenly followed.

james-makes-money-opinion

This is one of those moments that I just had to seize and write about while it was still fresh in my mind and I can express myself to just how ridiculous I felt about everything from the Twitter message that sent me on my journey right down to the insanely ridiculous video.

Now before I even get started I want to make sure that everyone understands that I honestly love all forms of marketing, I can see where this marketing pitch works and how it will probably make “James” some serious cash. My point with the entire thing is that I think it’s ridiculous.

Here is a copy of the Twitter message that I clicked on in order to find out about this AmAZiNg offer from James who is obviously the smartest guy to ever start an online business. Now keep in mind I clicked on the Twitter message with the full intention that I would hate everything about the product that this person decided to send me a @extremejohn message on Twitter, honestly there was no chance I was going to take this seriously.

singl3h0ttisisn @extremejohn fu*k bein’ broke any moe, check me out: http://www.jamesmakinmoney.com I wanna help my people, See 4 yo self!
Stella Fitzgerald (Twitter, extremejohn) 4h ago via API

I think it’s really nice of James to take time out of his busy multiple car driving day to send me a personal Twitter message to help me from “fu*kin bein’ broke any moe”, very kind of James and I plan on sending him a thank you message to show my appreciation, all though I am not sure if James is really James or if James is actually Stella Fitzgerald. Anyone wanna help me out here? Just want to make sure that James get my message.

Again keep in mind, I NEVER would have clicked on the link in this Twitter message with any intention of buying any product that this person is selling (James or Stella), some people would. I just wouldn’t.

Now let’s take a look at big money James and the very exciting You Tube video that is included on his splash ad page to push his “Fast Cash Using Google” thing he has going on, I could probably go with around 100 reasons I would never buy shit this person was selling but instead of doing that I want to ask you one single question.

Does James even mention what he is selling once in the video? Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on making money online with Google and please be sure to include how many seconds it took you to rip your wallet or purse out and purchase whatever it is that James is selling or just leave a comment with something funny that someone tried to get you to buy on Twitter through an @replies message.

Oh yeah before you rush off and start making $100,000 a second it’s always important to inform everyone of the cost of services or the cost of a product, you know because I’m nice like that.

James’ Fast Cash using Google system will Only cost you $1.97…… well that’s for the first 7 days, after that your looking at a recurring monthly charge of $79.90 per month, all this means of course is that you better get your ass in gear after buying Jame’s product or service so you can cover the additional $79 monthly expense.

P.s>>> I soooo want to do a spoof of this video. Don’t forget to share this on Facebook and retweet it on twitter!

@Anthony James Barnett – author, hey I can’t blame a guy for trying to make money regardless if it’s making money online with tools like Google and Twitter or by selling a valuable product or service they might offer.

I just really felt that the opening Twitter line was one of a kind if you know what I mean, haha.

@Jay Zuck, yeah these one page splash ad deals or long forms and some of the eBook and Twitter schemes and pitches out there just make me want to snap.

At the end of the day it’s bad for everyone in blogging, I saw the same thing about 10 years ago when I first started internet marketing. Everyone wants on the next best thing, that gravy train. They just don’t seem to realize the damage it does to other valuable streams of information that people are selling on the web.

@gautam hans, this kind of stuff always gets out of control before anything happens with it, online porn was the same way a long time ago. Now the regulations and credit card billing companies, third party processors and whoever else have the lock down on most of it.

Than everyone will wonder why revenue is down in a specific niche or market, or wonder why selling splash ad’s like that causes conversions to hit the floor in no time.

What a dumbass. I feel sorry for those falling for THAT kind of internet marketing, it’s so obvious that he’s trying to sell a dream. Just because he “might” be able to make $100k a month (yeah, right… uhm, Santa Claus here!) doesn’t mean that *anybody* else who follows his “program” might be able to do it.

I’m glad you posted this, hopefully somebody who considers joining his program will google it first and this post comes up as the first one.

Then again it is a pity I do not have much time to click on all those DM and @replies because I am sure that they all would be very entertaining. This is a good video for telling people the “do not’s” of internet marketing.

If I had the time; i would set up a blog filled with thiese kind of pitches. I am sure it will be a success. After all it is different. Hey John, you want to set up one with me?

Now for 1$ investment and you get whole load of cash like he shows it in a bag stashed at the trunk of his car makes you wonder if that has anything to do with Google at all. Anyway, tried to visit the homepage but it was taking too much time, so there goes my one dollar investment of the full minute I lost trying to see WTF this guy was selling

I couldn’t stand to watch the whole video either. It didn’t matter whether I could understand him or not, I HAD TO BUY!!! There’s just something hypnotic about a fast car sitting on the street, just waiting for someone to come along and make a video in it. Well, surely James is makin money now.

Maybe you should be an affiliate; you probably outrank him for his own product. What a gravy train.

The really funny thing is that the product may possibly even work as he says, even though it’s probably only a remote possibility.

Dumb video? Whoever made that is a marketing genius! If it was actual the kid… cool… but I imagine it is someone else pulling the strings. I imagine they get a TON OF TRAFFIC from that video. Does the kid tell you ANYTHING? Not a thing, but it gets people to the site, which is what the goal of the video is about. Heck… he got you to display it on your site. That says something. Would I buy the product? No, but I am sure there are a lot of people out there that would.

@Doug Dillard, ok let’s pause for a little reality here real quick before James starts getting a shit load of credit he hardly deserves.

Genius is a bit much for a video that has all of 14,000 plays, there are bloggers that write about things and post videos that get 100′s of thousands of hits, and thats hardly genius and even my silly ass has done it before.

A lot of traffic? With all of 14,000 views he’s not generating that much traffic at all. I have had sites that pumped 300k uniques through per day and no one called me a genius and all though it did make me excellent money I guarantee James isn’t making as much as I was, and certainly not what he’s showing here.

Now did James get me to say something? Yes he sure did, and hopefully one of the things James got me to say are noticed by the people viewing this post…. $80 REBILL for a product with ZERO INFORMATION = Really bad marketing, really bad future investment, really bad being on EJ’s site.

Always my pleasure Doug :)

So this feels like a point-counterpoint argument. James you ignorant slut. Who in their right mind would want to waste even a dollar on some get-rich-quick scheme that doesn’t even have a selling point? It was convenient of the real car owner to leave it unlocked for you so you and your buddy to run by and shoot a quick video on your way to pick up your next shipment for distribution.

I got internet, I got a dollar. I also have an education, and I learned in school that it is hard work and determination that will help me to succeed. Do I need fast whips like that to make me successful? I will let my son’s graduation from college be my determining factor, not the old video from youtube that shows me in the car that I never owned in the first place, while I am asking real hard working people if they want fries with their order like you are more than likely to be doing in the near future.

Still, to be fair, James could be the next Anthony Robbins and his selling techniques could lead the next wave of successful business men and women through his motivational methods. I just hope I am not alive when this takes place.

Nice piece John. I fully count on you making a video reply to this one. Give Wierd Al a call and see if he can promote the soundtrack.

I also agree from the other comments that with all his money he could get a nice film crew or just maybe spend $1000 on a decent video cam.
