A few weeks ago I wrote an article titled, “An Introduction to the Web App I’ve Been Developing for the Past Year”. The title doesn’t really leave much to the imagination, aside from the fact that I’m sure you have no clue what VIPO is.
I’m not going to re-explain the VIPO web app project again here, click the sexy little title link in the previous sentence for the full scoop.
Why I Went with a Modular Design
When I set out to develop this web app for my small business, I wanted to build a core system that would allow for modules to be built, and attached to the core. A modular system that gives me complete flexibility in the event I decide to lease the web app to tanning salon owners based on a monthly bases. The modular concept would give tanning salon owners and other salon related businesses the opportunity to pick the modules that fit their business needs. Ultimately, paying for exactly what they use vs paying for a massive pile of components that go unused.
Another benefit to building the VIPO web app based on modular design, is that by doing so, it gives me more flexibility to sell the product as a turn-key solution to another company that would be interested in the VIPO or web app package. The new owner or investor can easily continue to build on the core system by developing new modules to offer as add-ons.
Employee Online Membership Leaderboard
Displaying page 1 of 2
The Leaderboard module was one of the first modules that I had developed for VIPO. The initial information that VIPO provided was very basic and one dimensional. Initially, there weren’t any reports, and there definitely wasn’t any easy way to figure out statistical information. I’m a stats addict, this obviously didn’t sit well with me.
Leaderboard tracks every online membership that is sold online at Extreme Tan and Smoothies .com. There are six online memberships that can be purchased, three for indoor tanning bed fans, and three for sunless uvfree tanning fans.
As you can see by the screen shot above, the VIPO Leaderboard module tracks all online sales that are sold by Extreme Tan and Smoothies team members. The information is displayed by day, week, month and year. The list is sorted based on who leads in the “This Week” column.
Employee Profile Module Preview
The Leaderboard module works along with the Employee Profile Module. By connecting the two modules, individual performance data can be displayed in the Employee Profile. As you can see by the example above, any of my team members can see exactly how they rank in their individual salon, as well as the entire company.
On the way out…
I’m lovin’ the fact that I get to develop something based around the feedback and ideas I receive from my associates. It’s also pretty awesome being able to build in the functions that I feel make running my business much more streamlined.
Well, I’m outta here. I need to get crackin’ on the, “Supply Re-order Module”. Once this baby is done it will save my small business money on ink, paper and most important, TIME. I’ll keep you posted.
Have a kick ass day! Oh yeah, one last thing, connect with me on Twitter @extremejohn. I’m up for talking business, social media, networking, startups, small business, merchandising, merchant services, investments, and of course leadership. Ok, I’m really gone now
