Everyone Knows Me?

Everyone Knows Extreme John

Before I get going on this post I think it’s important to point out that the last thing on my mind is the thought that “Everyone Knows Me”, if anything I am writing this post because it’s somewhat weird to hear people say that everyone knows me. I don’t know when it started and I don’t have a clue to even why it started but for some reason people are constantly texting me to ask if I know “so and so” because they said they know me or I will be in a conversation with someone and they will tell me that someone they recently spoke with knows me. It’s weird.

Now the reality of it all is that I just about never “know” the person in question which makes it really hard for me to believe that they “know” me. Even more important to note is the fact that I can probably count the amount of people that REALLY “know me” on my ten fingers. I don’t mind meeting people but the fact is I don’t put myself in to a lot of situations that expose me to people enough that they really know me, my group of true friends is very tight and small to say the least.

Extreme John

Like I mentioned earlier I’m not sure when it all started or what exactly did it, maybe the Insane Limos TV commercial, years of owning Extreme Tan and Smoothies or this blog had something to do with it.

How many people do you really feel “know” you? Leave a comment and share your thoughts on everyone knowing you or everyone knowing me, whatever makes you happy just leave a comment! haha.

P.s. I don’t want anyone to think that it bothers me when you ask me if I know someone or not, it doesn’t.

You can compare what you’re experiencing to what people do with sports teams. When the team they are going for is winning they refer to the team as “we.” When the team is doing bad they refer to the team as “they.” You’re successful and people want to be associated to YOUR success so they feel better about themselves. I don’t know what the psychology term would be, but I’m sure you can find it on Google. I bet if you lost your businesses less people would “know” you. I would say 5 people REALLY know me by the way.

@Anthony @ San Diego Bounce House, that’s a very interesting take on it and probably a very good one at that. I bet that 5 turns out to be the magic number in this post.

I know Extreme John,
but do I really know John ??
Good question.
How well do you really know somebody?
Is it just in passing.
Is it a small monthly conversation you have with person.
Is it a family member you see on ocassion.
Is it a stripper that kisses you on the check every weekend as you fill her bikini with ones and fives.
Is it your favorite golfer that has that great smile and appeal.
I would say I know a lot of people and I would say in coversation
“hey I know such-n-such person”, that does not mean that “I know them”
You really never know a person unless you live with them.
Does anyone “know” SafariDave???? except my lost brother SANG.

@Extreme John, I have a Gravatar Icon but it keeps going away. I have a double headed evil twin and a dead safari tor guide.
By the way its a T-Back not a canadian nut hugger. I wear the T-back because its got more room up front for my junk.

I guess the people you’re talking to really mean John Doe “knows of you.” Sounds like a nice subtle compliment, that people are name-dropping Extreme John~!

With busy adult lives and careers, I think its difficult to have more than 4 or 5 people that are close friends, and that know you well. Though we may have many more people that we “click” with, but just don’t see often enough to really know and understand that person’s life (and vice versa).

I am very lucky to have met you, James, Mike , Lisa , and Michelle. It’s not everyday that you find friends that sure the same intrest and are a positve part of your life besides family. Is it annoying or does it feel good that people you have never met know you? Reminds me of a story once when I was at a club in Orlando. Some chick jumped all over me and thought that I was someone she knew. I grabbed her ass and swung her around and played along with it for ass long ass I could, eventually I couldn’t fake the funk anymore and had to tell her the truth, this wasn’t the first time. There must be a Sangalicious look alike here in Florida. I wouldn’t doubt tons of people know you , because with all the charity work. You are a rare person. Your success doesn’t get to your head and you are a rare breed.

My own husband doesn’t know me. It’s funny the things he says that are so far from me. My family knows me. My kids.

I know of you, which is completely different than actually knowing you. I agree with the latching onto the bandwagon thing. And boy, don’t they look kinda stupid when you say, ‘who?’

@Dick@paysonweb, you know couple of weeks ago I thought I remembered you asking me if I was pissed off at you in the comments on one of my posts. I’m not mad about anything, one way or another your site either isn’t showing updated in my reader or it got lost in the shuffle somewhere along the way.

I’m on your site now, let me see what’s going on here :)

I don’t even know who understand me or who doesn’t understand me, but I believe that my girlfriend, my family does know me well, not all of me but at least they know the most about me.

However, I try to know everyone else that I catch up on the web, especially blogosphere. Anyway, glad to ‘know’ you John! :-D

Best Regards,
Lee

I’d say about 3, 4 people really know me… Deacon and “5am” (don’t ask) for sure, the Big X (wife) for sure.

It’s more like they know of you John, rather than actually know you. That’s not surprising considering this blog is so popular.

I can just imagine being in your neck of the woods and slapping you on your shoulder asking how you were and all, and then trying to bum a free limo ride from you. Failing that I would probably want you to introduce me to some of those babes that you know. And if that didn’t work I’d have to drag my sorry ass back to Australia.

Hi John:

I had to pop over here for your URL because I’m writing about you in a blog post for next week!

I am so sorry I haven’t stopped by in a while to read your posts…I’ve been running like a cheetah the past few weeks.

Oh to answer your question – I would say that I probably have about 20 people that know me really, really well (6 of those are my siblings). However, I will say due to Social Media that number seems to be growing all the time. Less than 5 probably know all the nitty-gritty about me…my skeletons, my dreams, wishes, etc.

Cheers, hope you are having an awesome 2010!

Hey, aren’t you the guy with that cooking show? :-D

Seriously, I’m pretty much an open book, but still probably only a handful of people really “know” me, including my husband. These days, the people I meet who seem to know me the best are internet friends. Weird, I know, but you can really get to know a person in here. We talk about stuff we’d never discuss “IRL”.

I think you can know somebody for 5 minutes and have them know you better than somebody you’ve known for 20 years. Sometimes there is a meeting of the mind and you just “get” each other.

John, please stop me before I ” :-o ” again!
