One of the many things that you can do to increase traffic to your blog and increase comments on your blog is to have a contest or giveaway, this works great for business blogs as well as personal blogs. I recently announced that we reached 10,000 comments here on the Extreme John blog, I really never imagined reaching 100 comments when I started this thing, nevermind 10,000.
As a way to show my appreciation for all of the comments that everyone is nice enough to leave as well as all of my blog posts that so many of you retweet on Twitter and vote up on Blog Engage , I’ve decided to have a little contest. I have had contests here on my blog before, but nothing like a $150 giveaway. I wanted to really blow the doors off of this and have some fun with it, and there’s really no better time to have a contest than just before the holidays, who wouldn’t mind the extra cash.

Most of my daily readers and the lucky folks that subscribe to my rss feed know that I like to keep things pretty simple around here, I think that you will find that this is one of the easiest contests you could possibly try to win.
$150 Christmas Giveaway Details
Every time you retweet this post or leave a comment on Extreme John from December 1st – December 24th you will receive 1 virtual ticket. I will be using the My Top Commentators Wordpress Plugin to track comments per user and I will be using Tweetmeme to track any retweets of this post that are done.
- Retweet this post on Twitter = 1 virtual credit
- Leave a comment = 1 virtual credit
Example:
- Harry retweets this post 5x = 5 virtual points
- Harry also leaves 23 comments = 23 virtual points
- Harry would have 28 chances to win
Please keep in mind that any comments that I consider “spam” will automatically be excluded from the contest, in addition I would like to point out that Twitter spam is a terms of service violation, please don’t spam.
I will be choosing the winner randomly and announcing the winner on December 24, 2009, which of course is Christmas Eve. The winner will have the option of a $150 Visa Gift Card or a payment via Pay Pal.
