Ok, before I even get started It’s probably important to let the people that read my blog on a daily basis for the [intlink id="2178" type="post"]juicy pictures[/intlink] or ultra [intlink id="1481" type="post"]sexy videos[/intlink] know that this post won’t be that exciting to you.
Now if your a Blogger or someone who likes to surf the web and read some of the [intlink id="1467" type="post"]excellent blogs[/intlink] that are out there or someone who makes money online than this might be of some interest to you. New Bloggers or “Noobs” might also find some of this Blogging information useful in their own online social networking ventures. Take it from someone that has been making money online for over 10 years, every little piece of the puzzle matters when your trying to build a blog or make money online. This post will tell you a few of the tools that are out there that you can add to your blog in order to increase your comments, and gives you a chance to benefit from being a Do Follow blog.
I wanted to take a little time and post an article that informed new bloggers of a few things that they can use to grow their site, I also wanted to post the article to make people aware of some of the features I use here on Extreme John.com and some of my other blogs. I hope you find some of the Do Follow information, information on Gravatars, CommentLuv and KeywordLuv.
Gravatar
You may have noticed that there are a few places on Extreme John.com that this image (gravatar) appears:
This is the default Gravatar for Extreme John.com, and basically will show up in the comments of any article here when someone does not have a Gravatar. Many of you are probably thinking what is a Gravatar or “What the hell is that?”, either or this will tell you what a Gravatar is. In short a Gravatar gives you an identity or better yet a “Face” of some sort, you can use a cartoon image like I use 
or you can use a normal picture of yourself like Roseli E.Baker (who comments here) uses 
either way, if you comment on blogs, read blogs or your a blogger I recommend giving yourself an identity by getting a Gravatar. It makes people more comfrotable having discussions with people that have identities as opposed to some ugly blue square which gives you or your website no identity at all.
If you would like to add Gravatars to your WordPress Blog you can use WordPress Gravtars 2.7.1 which is a WordPress Plugin.
DoFollow
In short, a Do Follow blog like my site tells search engines like Google to follow links that get crawled by search engine spiders. I first heard of Do Follow thanks to John from Pot Politics and have been utilizing it ever since, it allows for people with their own website or business website to post comments and links here and recieve link love from search engines when they crawl Extreme John.com
You can easily turn your own WordPress Blog into a Do Follow blog by using DoFollow 4.0 a WordPress Plugin that allows your to selectively remove the “nofollow” from your comments section. Once you remove your “nofollow” links and turn your blog into a Dofollow blog be sure to add your site to the DoFollow Blog Directory so other DoFollow Bloggers can find you.

CommentLuv which recently moved to a new server is a WordPress Plugin that allows you to display your most recent posts on the blogs that you visit that also use CommentLuv.
I started using CommentLuv here a few months ago and immediatley noticed that I had more comments coming in. Sure people might be posting their comments solely based on the fact that they want some link love or traffic from it, but it still benefits the site by increasing reader participation.
CommentLuv allows you to reward your blog readers by posting a Titled Link to their most recent article, you can see an example of it in action in the comments here.
KeywordLuv
The WordPress KeywordLuv Plugin allows you to reward your blog readers by seperating their name from their keywords in the link to their website, giving them improved anchor text. If you scroll towards the bottom of this post and look at Lacerocks comment you will see that his name is displayed seperated from his site name.
Example:
“Comment by lace of Extreme Tan and Smoothies”
which is different than the default which would be displayed as follows:
“Comment by Extreme John”
You can take advantage of KeywordLuv here on Extreme John by entering your name as follows when leaving a comment:
Username@Your Web Site Name
This would be the same for any blog you come across that uses the WordPress Plugin KeywordLuv.
All of the things listed above are easy to install, take advantage of these WordPress Plugins on your own blog and when you see a site that uses CommentLuv, KeywordLuv or is a DoFollow blog take advantage of it and leave a comment.

Unfortunately there’s no CommentLuv plugin for Joomla yet so I’m using Disqus and have turned off the no follow links all over my site (with no serious impact on page rank that I can see). I notice most of the comments here are no-follow, is this something you have changed your mind about since writing the blog?

In regards to some of the links being No Follow instead of Do Follow it’s based on a few factors now, Do Follow is not on until the third comment and if Keyword’s being used in the Keyword Luv field are too many characters it will automatically no follow as well.

@Extreme John, Just noticed you’re into MMA, my current project is an MMA Clothing / Community site using Joomla. Should be up at mmadream.com in a couple of weeks. About to start a site for an ex-world champ light heavy boxer too.
I love the flexibility of Joomla, I can create unique, usable and accessible site templates really quickly. The reduction in development time is huge, and being a one man band development time is everything. The number of third party extensions under GPL is fantastic. Learning the intricacies of Joomla is a steep curve but over all it’s a joy to use. Version 1.6 is coming out soon and should iron out a few niggles with things like categories/sections which currently don’t make any sense.

I’ve been using Comment Luv and Keyword Luv and appreciate what they do for my blogging. Are you saying that DoFollow is an improvement over them or is it an add-on?You will find sites related to dolphins that use commentLuv. Read the posts and leave a great comment. Now you have two great links, one to your home page and one deep into your site using the title of the page, which is almost perfect SEO.

Gotta thank you for adding Comment luv to your blog. I try to encourage my clients with new websites to search out blogs and websites with comment luv. I see the process as a triple win really – the website owner receives comments that help their optimization, the writer also gets a GOLDEN LINK to their site, and the other readers, if we play by common courtesy can learn from the quality comments left behind. It’s a helpful SEO tool if used properly (as stated by another comment above)

@Harmony- SEO Surrey, I have been running CommentLuv here now or probably well over a year, most of the comments it brings in are great. I have always been a big fan of Comment Luv, nice to see you also like it.
I believe it’s a great pluggin indeed. But am still concerned about how to avoid spamming. IS there anyway to install spam filters that would word well with keyword luv? That would definitely help.

I have been using the do-follow plugin and keywordluv on my blogs for a few months now. I love that it encourages real conversation, and quality appears to have gone up since I installed them, but I am finding a lot more spam. I have looked into Bad Behavior to limit the spam, but I can’t really find many reviews or very much information about how well it works. Any opinions?

The DoFollow plug-in was new to me. I didn’t realize that links from my site were no-follow links. I appreciate that.
Have you any idea whether gravatars will become customized hyperlinks in the near future? Your gravatar for instance just screams “click me”. I think that would be a great traffic generator and would spawn some pretty interesting gravatars I bet.

CommentLuv is by far my favorite plugin to use on my blogs and because of the huge opportunity it offers for getting quality links.

I’m confused, commentluv is supposed to allow dofollow yet this and evey other commentluv blog I have come across is nofollow. Keyworldluv blogs are all dofollow on the other hand. Am I missing something?

@Tom @ Camping Sleeping Bag, this blog is Do Follow as well and chances are that many of the other blogs that you visit are also, it depends on the plugin used. I use Lucias Linky Luv vs the Do Follow plugin. Linky Luv allows me to set a minimum number of comments before a backlink is given out. This helps reduce spam to some degree.
Three comments here warrants a Do Follow back link, however if there are too many words or characters in a commenting user name or in the Keyword Luv area it will also remove Do Follow on the comment.
Some excellent information here. I actually thought that all blogs where do follow in the beginning. Now I am going to get the do follow plugin.

Sorry I can’t agree with you there, especially since I am one of the many bloggers that use Comment Luv. It’s an excellent tool when used properly, when someone doesn’t know how to use it properly there’s no point at all in using it.
I cannot stand spam! I am constantly cleaning up my sites getting rid of it. Keywordluv is a definite plus for all pro bloggers. I have book marked for future. Tons of tips here, very good.

Since you hate spam so much please consider using a real username when leaving a comment and leave the MAKE MONEY stuff for the Keyword plugin I use here, people will take your comments more seriously and bloggers such as myself will be less likely to throw your comments in the spam file.
KeywordLuv works out great for the blogger as well as the commenter. Its nice to see people using it properly though and inserting relevant comments. I post my link in comments quite often, but I do it in the proper URL input box and take the time to write some decent contribution. Heres to this awesome plugin!

Just trying it out on my sites, and the quality of some comments is more than a bit iffy.

When u installed this plugin, did u get a lot of spamm comments as well? i can imagine it will increase ur traffic alot! There is also an other plugin called commentluv its quite the same i gues.
commentluv and keywordluv are great plugins to use, it not only helps the blog, but it also helps us get a backlink that we need, in order for our website to get more traffic drove towards it. Thanks for using this fab plugin.
this is very useful information particularly for newbie bloggers who needs a jump start about plugins. i’m personally using keyword luv and comment luv as well. Agree that keyword luv is fantastic, letting us enter our keywords. after all it is the keyword we are ranking for, not our names.

After reading you article I can now see where I was going wrong with using the anchor text effectively. You have to make sure its the main keyword and correct URL, however what do you think about varying the anchor text and how it effects seo ranking?

My blog was not relevant to their niche because well frankly my blog is one of the few non-scam blogs in my niche. I found that few of my comments made it on to the blog. Thank you Andy I appreciate it. If you don’t mind me suggesting a shorter keyword phrase for when your blog commenting, you will see better returns and it will look a lot less spammy.
Commentluv is the plugin which really necessary for increase traffic.

Yeah it can increase traffic, it certainly doesn’t dump it off by the piles but it helps it move along.
