Happy Anniversary

For the last 7 years saying “Happy Anniversary” seemed like a huge contradiction, how can you have a Happy Anniversary on the same day that 9-11 happened? All of those innocent people, all of that pain and you know it isn’t gone seven years later. I went into this week knowing it was the week of my Wedding Anniversary, 9 years of Marriage and we have never had a fight ;) Which means I also went into this week thinking about 9-11 and where I was on that day.

Lisa and I were celebrating our second Wedding Anniversary in Aruba and at that time our daughter was just a few months old. We were out partying the night before at Hooters (of all places) and I would say we had to put down about 13 pitchers of beer before we went back to the hotel and crashed. We woke up to the TV we had left on reporting the news of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers, and stayed awake to watch the rest of the day unfold. Those were crazy times as I am sure everyone reading this can remember, crazy times that just happen to be on the same day as our Wedding Anniversary.

This year seemed like last year, a year where you heard a little bit less about the history of that day’s events seven years ago. I didn’t hear it on the news as much, didn’t see it on TV as much and certainly didn’t hear a lot of people talking about it leading up to the day. I don’t believe for a second that people are forgetting I just think people are healing and thats a good thing. It also seemed like Lisa and I have started healing too, instead of spending the day talking about that one day seven years ago (like we do each year) we spent the day telling the kids about times we lived in Michigan or moved from New York to Florida and trying to have somewhat of a normal day. We had a nice normal Anniversary and it was the first time I thought that in a long time, no focusing on super sad things or dwelling in front of a TV being reminded of one day in nine years of being married. Instead we had a kick ass dinner at Angellino’s on US19 in Palm Harbor, Florida and when I say KICK ASS I mean KICK ASS I would recommend anyone that likes a great meal to check it out.

I have not forgotten 9-11, where I was that day, what went on that day or what went on leading up until the time that Lisa and I got home, I just decided to start moving forward from that day and look at some of the many other days through the last nine years. Maybe this means Im not so negative anymore….. Ok maybe not :)
