How to Check Your Google Page Rank

by Extreme John on September 4, 2009 |

Some bloggers are fascinated by it and new bloggers probably aren’t even familiar with it, but regardless whichever side your on Google Page Rank is an important factor when it comes to how other bloggers and even investors view your blog. It’s getting pretty late so I won’t be spending a lot of time going into what Google PR is and how you can increase your Google page rank, there are plenty of places that have Google PageRank Explained to get you up to speed.

google-pagerank-checker

Finding the Google PageRank Checker tool that is perfect for you really shouldn’t be too hard, as you can see by this Bing search results for Page Rank Checker there are plenty of tools out there to find out how your Page Rank rates.

I wanted to give you an example of two different Page Rank Checkers that I use when I am writing a post that requires me to check a blog or websites Google Page Rank, at one time I had a Firefox add-on that would display the current websites Google Page Rank in the bottom right of my Firefox browser but that went away with the most recent Firefox update.

Smart PageRank button

Extreme John.com Page Rank is currently PR 4

The two Google Page Rank services I use are Smart Page Rank and PR Checker, both offer PageRank badges that you can display on your website in various sizes, Smart Page Rank takes checking your Google PR to another level with additional information about your blog.

Smart Page Rank Checker displays

  • Alexa ranking
  • Directories listed DMOZ and Yahoo
  • Backlinks from Google, Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista and more
  • Indexed pages

Smart Page Rank also includes a website value tool that displays the estimated value of the url you enter, this is of course based on various factors and a very general estimation of a websites value.

Values this site at

To give you an example of what PR Checker.info looks like you can check out my recent post titled “Blogroll Updated with Hot Blogs“, I used one of the three different Page Rang badges offered for each of the sites in that post.

Now let’s talk about this, do any of you care about Google Page Rank or did you have no idea what Google Page Rank was? Have you ever used a PR Checker tool before to see what your PR rating is? Leave a comment I am curious to see how each of you view Google Page Rank when it comes to viewing others blogs or your own blog. I always check pr with prchecker.info. I think PR is important… Please correct me if I am wrong here.. If I have a higher PR does it mean that google will crawl my blog faster than the blogs with lesser PR….?

@Compute Live, I think it is true but I am not a SEO expert so can’t be confident.

I think better PR means better crawl rate because few of my autopilot blogs which have no PR are getting indexed slowly than expected. But as I said I am not tooo sure of this because you can change the Crawl Rate from the Google Webmaster settings of that website.

I don’t bother with Google page rank anymore; I’ve seen sites with low page rank that, well, rank high. Heck, I try not to depend upon google that much nowadays anyways, as the dreaded Google Slap could kill any site any time (even whitehat).

12+ years of marketing online can do that to a body. :)

A Google slap is when Google ‘slaps’ your site, ie, gives it a one-way ticket to explore the Titanic. Can happen to whitehat sites too. :(

From what everyone seen, Google updates PR very frequent, usually it’s 3 months, it can be 1 month as well from the previous updated.

Anyway, I’m sure you will get a PR3 and higher on the next updates because you have a great blog over there! :D

Personally I use the SEOquake toolbar for firefox.. It shows you the PR of the page you’re on, the Google index of the site, the alexa rank, the number of links pointing to that page, the number of links pointing every which way within the site.. etc..
It’s a really cool tool.. though it munches on bandwidth as I recall, and slows down your page load time

I used to check my PR by using PR checker tool, but I didn’t use it anymore after installing Google toolbar which has a PR greenbar at the top.

Anyway, I do care about my PR, I believe that most of the advertiser take PR as their consideration while deciding whether they want to advertise in your blog.

I’m not sure how important PR really is when it comes to your ranking in the search engines, I’d say content and backlinks are what matters.

But if you’re linking out, then I guess your links are more “valuable” to the linkee (is that even a word?) if you have good PR – and also for advertisers of course.

John, I’m using “Quirk SearchStatus” for Firefox, that also displays PR and Alexa rank (and more) in the lower right corner of Firefox.

As far as Google Page Rank being important or not, there is no question it is valuable as your page is judges by potential advertisers and other bloggers, not to mention it gives you something to work towards or at least enjoy when you get a pat on the back from Google.

PR is an important factor, considering that it is part of Google’s algo. Regardless of what weight it has, it is still important, specially for people who like to monetize their websites with paid post or paid links (not that I endorse those methods). Now, this does not stop me from visiting blogs or websites. I do care if they are banned or an attack site, you know (bad hood). Have a nice weekend bro..

I have 2 tool bars that will give you PR.
I have Quirk Search Status if I want a fast Who Is, meta tags, keyword density…

But, I normally use the SEOBOOK tool bar because I can see the Domain & page backlinks from Yahoo listed or just chick & open them. It also has a 1 click WayBack machine, tells if the site has DOMZ or Yahoo directory listing & much more.

As for PR – it is a very small part in how you are listed in the SERP’s.
The tool bar PR that you see is not that accurate as PR can change daily but the toolbar PR only changes every 3-4 month’s.
PR is mostly important to people for selling advertising.

The normal searcher will likely not have any toolbars installed & could not care less about PR. They only want to buy a product at the best price from a site they think is reliable.

Traffic and conversion matters more.

Page rank is depressing for me, all those zero’s make me want to bury my head in the sand. All the money I spent to build blogs, all the time I spent updating, networking, commenting, link building, etc. I feel like I should be getting ranked higher but Google obviously does not agree. It took some time to learn how to blog, I admit, and now I play by the rules, hopefully page rank will come for me, if not, I will just do a Thelma and Louise off the Grand Canyon in one of John’s limos, a spectacular site which if he promoted it like I know he is capable of, would offset the loss of the limo in ticket sales!

There is a difference between site with .com and others with .gov for exemple ?

I suppose PR for .gov must be more important, because it’s.. more official than a .com.
But in application, is it case ?
