Blog Engage is a blog directory that allows you to submit and share your blog posts with other bloggers and provides do follow backlinks to your articles, which can of course help to increase your Google Page rank and all of that exciting SEO stuff. You can learn more about Blog Engage and how it can benefit you and your personal blog or business blog by increasing your network and overall traffic, Blog Engage is consistently a top 10 traffic referring website to Extreme John.
I recently wrote “10 Tips for Better Blog Engage Results” to help Blog Engage users find creative ways to increase their overall votes and traffic return from their submitted articles, one of the tips was inserting the button manually into blog posts. Like this: . I also recommended placing the button manually into blog posts in my “14 Ways to get More Blog Engage Votes“, both of those posts display the Blog Engage button in the post where I wanted the button displayed and both of those posts had over 25 votes on Blog Engage.
After writing each of those posts I received a few emails and a ton of comments questioning how to put the Blog Engage vote button directly into your posts wherever you want to display it. I have been meaning to put this quick tutorial together for a while and finally have a chance to get it done, when you see how simple it is your going to laugh.
Please remember that this how to is based on you having a Blog Engage account, something you need to do before using either the Blog Engage WordPress Plugin or manually placing the button on your blog.
Grab the Blog Engage single page vote button code here or copy it below and paste it into your blog post wherever you want the button to be displayed, keep in mind if you are using the WordPress blogging platform you will need to add the code while in HTML view or the code will get screwed up and not display the button.
<script type="text/javascript">submit_url = "<?php the_permalink(); ?>";</script><script src="http://blogengage.com/evb/button.php"></script>
If you have any questions or have a problem getting the vote button to display where you want it displayed, take a second to leave a comment with your question. I’m familiar with blog engage. I’m manually submitting my blog posts there. It is a good social bookmarking site.

@Teena@Brisbane Hotels, it’s a pretty good site for networking that’s for sure. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.
Great article John. I am new to Blog Engage but I am already seeing the benefits of being a member. I usually don’t get too involved in social bookmarking sites, but I will be sticking with this one.
Keith´s last blog ..Do you Use Disqus Or Other Comment Sign In App?
@Keith, hey Keith I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to submit the article to Blog Engage for me, I am running way behind today with 800 things to do. Woot.
@Extreme John, Ya I was shocked I beat you to it! You are always preaching about submitting your own so you can get in the right category etc… Guess you were at my mercy on this one

Keith´s last blog ..Do you Use Disqus Or Other Comment Sign In App?
@Keith, I was sleeping. See the early bird gets the worm, sleep is so damn over rated.
Hi John,
FYI – If you have the free WordPress.com blog you can’t use javascript. This is from the WordPress.com support page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascript
Users are not allowed to post JavaScript on WordPress.com blogs. JavaScript can be used for malicious purposes. As an example, JavaScript has taken down sites such as MySpace.com and LiveJournal offline in the past. The security of all the blogs is a top priority and until we can guarantee scripting languages will not be harmful they will not be permitted.
Thanks for the info. I can use it on my Blogger blog.

@ileane, I have no experience with Wordpress hosted blogs, I host my Wordpress blog on my server so that’s a very good point to point out for those bloggers that host their blog on the Wordpress.com domain. Thank you.
@Extreme John,
John, it’s interesting that most bloggers are very familiar with Blogger but often they forget about WordPress.com. No worries, I just wanted to clarify this because I remember the question came up in your comment section before.
If you’re using WordPress.com just save the the Blog Engage “Vote” image and add it to your post with a link back to the URL on Blog Engage where your article appears. The counter doesn’t work but it promotes the community to your readers and makes it easy for members to vote. You can take a look at my blog or @TheTechGuia who also uses this option. I like to add the button at the top of my post so members don’t forget to vote. If they do forget, I just remind them in a Tweet.
Thanks John.

@Ms. Freeman@Baby Steps of an Internet Entreprenuer, yeah Blog Engage is good. It needs a few key changes as time goes on, but Brian seems to be doing a good job of adding new features.
Thanks for the info – saved me the time of hacking the code myself. Going to add the button at the bottom of my posts at some point.
Anne @ b6s.net´s last blog ..How Will the Movie Avatar Effect the Internet
@Anne @ b6s, my pleausure Anne, glad I was able to save you some time and energy while we were at it.
@Extreme John,
For some reason, it’s not working for me after all. I paste this in (while in HTML mode) –
submit_url = “”;
And Wordpress turns it into –
//
Weird stuff. Will try and make it work somehow.
Anne @ b6s.net´s last blog ..How Will the Movie Avatar Effect the Internet
@Anne, Duh, obviously it won’t let me paste code into the comment field…
I’ll go search for answers elsewhere – when I have answers, I’ll make a blog post about it :D
