You may remember earlier this week that I shared an article about the new Google +1 feature that was recently released by the SE company. A few people had some questions about how to use this new feature so I wanted to follow up with a ‘how to” piece.
Using Google + 1 to Your Advantage
The first step in utilizing Google +1 to your advantage is to ensure that you have signed up for a Google account and have a public Google profile. Currently the plus one button is considered to be in the experimental phase, so in order to utilize the feature you must opt in to take part in the experiment. After opting in you will see the opportunity to rate websites through a Google search as the plus one button will appear next to search results. As you rate each search result that you approve, you will leave your mark on the web as well as recommend a business or service to other internet users.
Final Plus One Thoughts
If you are interested in search engine research and observing how new search engine functions unfold, take the opportunity to sign up for the experimental phase of the Google Plus One feature.
Your Turn

I haven’t used it myself as I don’t have a Google profile set-up. Is it all it’s cracked up to be? I don’t know anyone with a Google profile so I’d have nobody to share my +1 things with!
Pretty neat. I never thought Google would let us rate other websites but I’ll give it a try next week.

It will be interesting to see how much that little button gets abused, as I’m sure businesses will want to have more +1′s than their competitor.

Of course and businesses will spend the money to do it too. In some way shape or form everything on the internet gets abused to some degree, it’s part of the rotation as far as I’m concerned.

To answer your question, I’m not. I am interested to see how this plays out with others though.

I have heard about Google plus one for the first time last week, I am kind of slow LOL
Somehow I am not interested to get it to my blog or somekind, I guess it will end like Google Buzz, not too many people use it compared to twitter.
Thanks
Kimi.

Thank you Mark, I’ve used +1 and like it all though it means I need to focus more energy on getting my personal profile a little more tweaked.

Hi John, I signed up for the Google +1 experiment. One thing I don’t like about it is this – if I’m searching for something, how do I know if I found the right thing just by seeing it on the search page. I need to click on the item first to make sure it’s what I need. Oh so now they want me to go back and give it a +1 ?
I’m not sure how often I’ll go back just for that…
We’ll see!

Very true and good point Ileane, wonder if Google is hoping everyone installs i like the “Like” button, Twitter RT button and every other one of the 800 billion buttons out there. haha

I might opt-in just to vote for my own sites. But I placed Google Buzz on some of the sites and the overall effect has been minimal at best.

Thanks for sharing this info!
I heard Google+ will become a big competitor for Facebook.
Honestly, they can’t beat FB but these small G+ buttons can really spice up the rankings for you!
Thanks!

They can for sure but it’s going to take time. Rome wasn’t built in a night
