I recently wrote a post titled “10 Bloggers I Want to See Guest Post“, obviously this list included some of the bloggers I highly respect and look up to in the world of blogging. I honestly never expected to have any luck or actually see any of the bloggers I mentioned submit a guest post here, I mean honestly this blog is a little off the typical niche specific blogging path and I’m not known for doing things that always make other bloggers happy. Anyway, I could probably go on all day here… the bottom line is this. Ask and you shale receive, in less than six hours from the time I wrote the post John Sullivan @jsinkeywest on twitter from Pot Politics submitted a guest post via email.
Big thanks to John for taking the time to submit a guest post here, I have been following him on twitter (found twitter because of him) and became Do Follow because of him. (Shut up self) Anyway, big thanks John and best of luck with Blogger Luv.
This is a guest post by John Sullivan, one of the most creative and talented bloggers around. Check out his blog Pot Politics, and tell’em EJ sent ya.
I originally wanted to title this post, ” How Blogging has changed my life ”
I wanted to share a little about my back round and why I’m so grateful to blogging and especially my blogging friends.
When I first started a blog on blogspot a little over two years ago I was a broken man. I mastered the success and failure routine all my life. I was lucky many times to not die in many of the situations I put myself in. Today I believe I need to take responsibility for my past. Blaming family members and circumstances gets you no where but deeper into the abyss. For many years I was fueled by alcohol, drugs, resentments and hatred. I had to blame everything and everyone else because surely if only the world would line up and do what I wanted then everything would be F.I.N.E. <-nonsense.
In blogging recently there was some backlash and bitterness about some well known bloggers opening a forum and charging a pretty penny to get this inside info and contact. I realized OLD behavior slipped out and I focused on the RIP off and negativity when in all reality it had nothing to do with me. The only reason I mention that is because I had a long term struggle with always wondering what the next person is doing.
People who are in recovery use a slogan called, ” Take your own inventory ” basically this means to take a LOOK at yourself and stop worrying about what the next man is doing or not doing. I wasted time in blogging with this anti- productive mindset. I would watch as I stumbled and tweeted you with my scorecard and if you didn’t reciprocate or say Thanks BAMM you were ….on the “list”. Keeping a mental file on so many people and what they are doing and not doing is a lot of work and a complete waste of mental energy.
The main point is that we have to be HONEST with ourselves. We can’t work on and solve a problem we can’t see. I have been able to spend time with myself and finally realize that I have issues and that I need to work on them. The purpose of this topic is to acknowledge that although I’m far from the person I hope to be one day I’m doing the best I can.
What has been working for me is to avoid negativity as best as I can. I also hope this post leads me into a more positive focus on my own blog. We are only here for a short time. I’m not going to solve the world’s problems especially not with constant bitter rants, no one really wants to hear that 24/7 I know I don’t . Hopefully I will continue down the right path. Thanks to blogging I no longer drink alcohol. I just wasn’t willing to keep paying the hard price of being a drunk and all the nightmares that come with that. Blogging and the support I get from some real friends keeps me afloat.
I am doing the best I can

Has blogging had a positive and/ or negative impact on your life ? Do you keep your personal business off your blog ?
One of the many downfalls of this behavior is you scared people away. I wanted to write a post on why I was unsuccessful in business and John is, implying that no one wants to do business or be associated with a bitter NUT, and the reality of that situation is far from the truth.Today I realize I care about people and I need to adjust my attitude and behavior and let people care about me.
I wanted to Thank Extreme John a real role model to me who always aspires me to do better and move forward.

Well Done John S.
Takes a lot of courage to acknowledge your shortcomings. It’s also the only way they can be overcome.
Proud of you bud!

I’ve been close [family] to two alcoholics. One took his life 7 years ago. The other has been sober for 17 years with no plans to go backwards. I’m a teetotaler myself, but have great respect for those who overcome any harmful behavior and can see the light on the other side. It’s so much better when we stop worrying about everyone else. Much less pressure that way.

@Allyn, I agree Allyn.

@Allyn Bro I quickly became your number one fan after hearing Sea Turtles and I was actually volleying a chat with Darren and then slipped back to OLD
behavior and out of no where a few exchanges deep I sent

Hey Darren Be Honest were you mad when you watched Allyn’s Spoof of you
Which was WRONG to ask a dumb ? and it’s not inline with what I’m trying to do the best I can TODAY to not have any fun fame etc at someone’s elses expense now that’s hard because there are so many victims to snipe like knocking sparrows with a pellet gun but you know what anyone can do that and I wasn’t surprised when Darren’s who I have much respect for have everything to HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON
I just hope two things that we start a way for bloggers ALL I have friends in China and Iran etc and we all do our best to help each other.
Sometimes just a tweet at the right moment saying Yo Blogger I’m thinking about you yeah YOU means so much that shit don’t happen to me LOL but I must do it 24/7 and I’m almost ok with the sad amounts of times I have been BLOWN OFF but instead of reverting to my true nature and going to their house or catching them at an event and CRAZY things like that I just think Man they are going to wish they kissed my ass while they had the chance and I will RUN to where my friends are
The Best to all Bloggers
Anyone in America except in FL behind in there rent mortgage and want to rent me a room and I will PAY all of it we can get rich way quicker
I have people in Key West that I lived with for yrs that you can call
Yo John I thought you said you didn’t have ADS on your site my bad but since I’m always LOOKING for new ways to GET HER DONE I will come to YOU and we will work together for a week and see what happens
I like the beach and desperately miss Key West but when I left they dropped a petty warrant on me and it is going to take a bite to buy my way out so I can go home buy a small place write a few books and ride off into the Sunset ………

@John Sullivan, keywest is a great place. I have spent many days at the Hog’s Breath and Sloppy Joes.
Lobster season is a great time down there.
As far as Darren getting silent, that is because I f-bombed him a few times, but I since deleted those posts. Had to tone down my-own-self.

Wow, that is all I can say John! I really hope to see you move towards more positive blogging (without losing the honesty).
I get wrapped up in negativity sometimes in my life through my own addictions, 2 divorces, success and failures, but in the end….. I only have myself to blame – good or bad….

Hey John and John,
Nice to see the guest post. It turned out great. I’m all over that BloggerLuv thing, best wishes for your success with it. I think that you really want to show that you’re past some of your former behavior and you’re ready to show nothing but Luv now (hence the name of the site). The hearts on the Twitter background are pretty cool too.
Hey, we are all a work in progress. My Mom always tells me if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. It might sound corny but it is so true. I’m sure you visit some blogs, read a few posts and just keep going without making any comments (good or bad). But hey – not when you come over to my place though ok?!

Hey John, it seems you’ve saved your best post for this guest post. I reckon Extreme John is rubbing his hands with glee.
Honestly mate, I never knew you had it so rough, and I’m proud to say I know a bloke who was able to pull himself out of the mire and after some wrong turns is heading in the right direction. You are that bloke John, and I reckon that from here on out there is nowhere for you to go but up.

John nice guest post. Now I know why I can relate to you so much. I fortunately have been sober for almost 19 years now but I was drunk way longer than that.
I have been meeting some really great people thanks to Allyn for introducing me to James.
On to reading more.

Nice post John, you are one Honest man. I have a lot of that ‘attack mode’ in me too and I’m following your example with by latest blog – struggling to hold back a little for more productivity and less drama which is a “complete waste of mental energy”. <- got that quote from a friend

Hey John,
That’s what I think is so cool about you. You don’t put on this fake mask. You don’t pretend to be someone you’re not. And it’s wonderful to see that you’re doing a lot of introspection and making decisions for a more positive outcome in your life. That’s very inspiring. Goes to show that a mindshift can make a huge difference.
All the best

What I get from this guest post is: honesty, courage and a resolution that I hope we could all give John our best moral support to do the best he can. I can’t say that I understand the path you’ve been through but we all have our limitations to face life struggles. I definitely had mine and what a blessing was I got over it with moral supports from a couple of blogger friends whom I respected a lot. Because of that, I applaud your determination and will remember you in prayers. Make us proud, John. You can do it!
