In Local News

by Extreme John on May 23, 2009 |

Whenever I have a chance to just surf around the web I constantly find myself getting lost in news stories from other cities I have visited through out the US. As much as I can’t stand the news I constantly read or watch some form of news through out the day.

I read stories about business, weather, crime, and even a few articles on recent high school sports. I would imagine that everyone else on the internet is doing something similar in regards to a topic they enjoy, it’s one of the best things about the internet.

After crusing around the interwebs today I decided that I would share a couple of the lovely local news stories going on in the Tampa Bay area. I would normally break this article up with three stories that you would assume are different in nature, at this point if I did that I wouldn’t be posting what are most likely the top three stories here. All three of the stories have been in the news for the last week or so, one of the stories is picking up steam with more info coming out daily, another story is making it’s exit from the news. Third story has stayed pretty consistent in the news since it occured, with news from the plea hearing being the most recent news reported on the story.

Cold Blooded Killer

Some of you may remember I made a post called “Cold Blooded Killer” it was actualy a Guest Post written by a very good friend of mine. I decided to write about this particular news story because there has been an arrest made in the case, and the family can now begin the healing proccess. This story will be heading out of the media soon and at least we know someone will stand trial for this horrible crime against an innocent mother and her two sons.

Meet Dirtbag Richard McTear Jr.

Back on May 6th I wrote an article titled “Meet Dirtbag Richard McTear Jr.“, this piece of shit will be on trial for grabbing a baby that was not his from his 17 year old girlfriend and throwing it on the ground. After Richard McTear Jr. was done doing that he kidnapped the three month old and flung it out the window on the the roadside of a major highway.

Richard McTear Jr pled “Not Guilty” to kidnapping, aggravated child abuse and first degree murder charges today in court. If you remember in my original post I mentioned how smug he was as he was escorted to a police car when he had first been arrested, Richard McTear Jr continued that today as he said, “I love you Jasmine” to the victims mother as he passed by in court today. A lot of you have left comments on this article, including a few people who disagree with the fact that Richard McTear Jr. is nothing more than the bottom of a worthless filthy trash bag.

Hit and Run Death No Big Deal

This story is pretty mind blowing the more I think about it, it is also the most current and talked about case on the news as outrage continues to grow over the case. On February 8th around 8:30pm, Melissa Sjostrom, 33 and homeless was limping across the street when she was hit by a car so hard that it knocked her out of her shoes and hurled her 100′ through the air. Sjostrom died in surgery approximately one hour later at a local area Tampa hospital.

It didn’t take Tampa police very long to put a red paint chip from the scene together with a Nissan Murano parked in front of a million dollar Davis Island Home. All though police knocked on the door of the million dollar home where the Murano was found, no one answered. The following morning a detective in the case received a message from Robert Valdez, he is the owner of the home.

Reports show that Robert Valdez had initially called to police department to report his 16 year old daughter Jordan’s car missing, which is when he learned that police impounded the vehicle the night before. The detective in the case reports that Robert Valdez left numerous numbers for the detective to reach him at, however none of those phone calls were ever answered or returned.

This case has sat relatively quiet until most recently when a local newspaper has turned up the heat on the case, mainly because Jordan Valdez the 16 year old that is believed to be the driver received a citation for “Careless Driving”. Jordan Valdez has pled not guilty to the charge, and the investigation into the hit and run death that killed Sjostrom has since been closed. Detectives in the case have been stymied from day one, they can put the Nissan Murano at the scene of the accident as well as in front of the Valdez home, they also have traffic records that show where the Murano had been leading up to sometime around the accident time, toll booth video failed to show a driver do to the blacked out windows and witness reports offered little to no help.

Leave a comment and let everyone know how you feel about any one of these local news cases, which one sickens you the most or if you have a different outlook than I seem to have please feel free to comment as well. Not really interested in the stories above or feel you have news in your local area that you would like to share please post your local news article here so we can comment on it. Thank you.

I wonder if local news channels have a choice, or wether they deliberately choose the top CNN or BBC story to broadcast, as these networks often act as content providers for local stations.

@CAD Programs I really don’t see our local news covering most of the larger stories they stick to local smaller scale stuff on this particular channel.

I’m glad they made an arrest in the cold blooded killer case.

It blows my mind that the police are willing to close the hit and run case, issue a minor citation and move on without further investigation.

@TCC yeah I am curious to see what kind of turn that Hit and Run case might have, typically if something hits the news like that people get pretty outraged.
