This really is another one of those stupid rants that just feels good to get off your chest because of how passionate or pissed off something has you, or should I say because of how passionate or pissed off you let yourself get over something. In this case I have allowed myself to get annoyed with the people in my neighborhood over something very simple, yet stupid.
Even as I write this post I can’t stop thinking about how annoyed I am with myself for even getting annoyed over such a stupid thing, it’s happened more in recent times which has my sense of annoyance at a higher level.
I live in a neighborhood that consists of about 40 homes and for the most part everyone is pretty friendly with everyone else, and everyone seems to stick to themselves for the most part. The community is gated with an automatic entry and exit gate, this creates a lot of eye to eye contact amongst the people coming and going through the gate system.
If I would simply avoid the eye contact I would be able to avoid getting annoyed with this situation, I can’t so I still continue to get annoyed about it after almost four years of it. For some odd reason the minute someone in the neighborhood makes eye contact I throw up my hand and wave, ya know as a passing “hey”. That is the second thing that I do that ends up getting me annoyed.
Now for whatever reason some individuals choose to make eye contact with someone and when that person makes eye contact back and waves they can’t reciprocate the friendly greeting, not even with a head nod. Why not just toss back the middle finger instead? It’s the same as not greeting a greeting with a GREETING, seriously shoot me the finger at least that way I know next time to sling one back.
It has actually become somewhat of a joke around my house amongst family and friends that experience the same thing coming through the gates, so it’s safe to say I am not the only person on the planet that finds it rude. I also can’t make the excuse for some of the neighbors that maybe they didn’t see me, let’s be realistic I drive a convertible and my hair stands straight out of the top of it. They see me.
I will say that I think that as dumb as this situation might be it’s an exact reflection of what today’s society and culture is becoming in this country, a total disregard for others. Of course I am being a little dramatic with that statement, but I am also a realist that thinks perception is everything. Is a simple wave really that hard? Is it painful?
Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on the situation, do you come across this in your everyday life or maybe your someone that just doesn’t wave back if someone waves at you or greets you.

Everyone’s afraid of sticking their necks out a little. The leaders are the ones without fear.

@Steve, nice Steve!
I was just saying the other day whatever happen to common hospitality. Now I’m ready your post and I’m wondering what happen to politeness. If someone says hello back to me or waves I wave back, unless it is some pervert. ;-)

@Rose, I can see why you wouldn’t do it back to some pervert. Haha.
Here in San Fran, it’s very common for people to walk through you.
I was raised to politely defer to others in such situations. The mannerly thing to do, supposedly, is both parties politely defer to each other.
After years of stepping aside, I finally figured it out.
Now, I simply stare straight ahead and people either get out of my way or they don’t.
The curious thing is now I tend to “bump arms” with a lot a women. The hotter the chick, the less they move, the harder they bump.
Whatever.
Stupid.

@Dave Doolin | Website In A Weekend,
Dave, the hardness from the hot ones is SILICONE !
You know if their not massaged properly they tend to be over firm.
DUDE !
You live in a very nice neighborhood and you know when you live in
“da rich hood” you are going to get those “I am Mightier than thou” people.
It’s the facts man, they are self rictious pricks. You came up from the Average Joe situation and can appriciate the things you have. These idiots have no concept of anything but being spoon fed by “daddies money or their sugar daddies money”. F>>k them, keep up the kind jestures because you know it kills them to see you waving at them every day.
Plus you know they are jealous to see your wife and all the hot ass thats coming and going from the parties you throw. I don’t live in a gated community and I even get the same from some of my neighbors.
Way to KEEP IT REAL!
Two middle fingers up in your head as you wave hello to da prudes.
Have a Super Safari Weekend.
@SafariDave, haha Dave you kill me sometimes, I will just keep waiving away.
That kind of thing happens everyday to me….folks are so self consumed…in the blogosphere and the real world there are those that give and there are those that take. Sometimes I wish there was was a smiley face that was flipping the bird. LOL:)

@Ms. Freeman, I will have one of those in place this week
It has happened with all of us at one point of a time, we often come across such prudes.. I mean I live in a great community where most of the people are quite friendly but there some self-absorbed people that really don’t have manners. It’s been years but still no improvement, it’s like even if they do come across most of us avoid them, I mean what else to do?
LOL

@Nehh, I guess you just keep on keeping on and doing the things you were taught to do growing up.
they’re afraid of your coolness.
I agree with you about society…most people have total disregard for others….unless they need something. Talk to people in their 70s or 80s and they will tell you people used to be a lot friendlier back in the day.
@Alan @ Glass Pipes, without a doubt things are different now than they were before. Would be nice if it were a change in a more positive direction though.
I feel for you John as it happened to me a couple of times too. Some people just don’t have the manners.
ZXT´s last blog ..What’s Hot on YouTube
@ZXT, true that.
John, it is clear that this attitude is happening everywhere, which means people are rude for no particular reason except being selfish. I am also wondering from this from some people arround, especially when you have not done anything wrong to them! Anyway, happy late thanksgiving

@Hicham, thank you Hicham I wonder if it’s laziness?
That is just ridiculous, isn’t it? It’s not like you expect them to get out of the car and have a conversation. Just a simple head nod or a smile and a wave. How eff’in effortless is that?
