You might say that I am biased, but I can give you some insight into the debate between Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts. I actually work for Krispy Kreme in Concord, NC. and what sets these two companies apart is freshness in quality and plenty of supply for the demand. First of all the majority of DD's are cake doughnuts while most of the traditional doughnuts at KK are yeast doughnuts. Yeast is lighter, fresher and last longer, while cake doughnuts are heavy, have more calories and don't last as long. Secondly I know first hand that kk doughnuts are fresher, as you might have noticed there are a lot less kk shops than there are dd shops, that's because almost every kk shop make the doughnuts right there for you to watch (the Hot light), while DD are made at a central location and then shipped out to the various retail locations. For the reason they are not made right there is why they are not as fresh or do not have enough to keep up with demand. At KK if you order something they either have it or can make it right there.

One thing not mentioned is the comparison of specific doughnut types between KK and DD. KK's Krullers and other cake doughnuts beat DD's. Hands down. I don't really like yeast doughnuts, so glazed are definitely not my favorite, however, KK's are OK warm but DD's are horrible. Krullers are delicious, I've even had them warm when the "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign was lit, and it was doughnut nirvana. And yes, for all you haters out there, I am a fatass so don't bother trying to destroy me with your hatred.

Coffee varies from location to location, Dunkin is better if they keep their equipment clean. As a parting shot, DD and KK have better coffee than Starbucks because that crap at Starbucks is dark roasted and anyone who thinks that is good doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground about coffee. Dark roast is for espresso and cafe con leche/cafe au lait (with chicory).

They are wonderful. When you get them hot, they just melt in your mouth they are so good. Even when they are not hot they are good. Also the service is great there as well. You can request hot donuts from the back and they will get you some. Its the best place ever for donuts in central AR in my opinion.

Krispy creme donuts are ok. They are definately nothing to brag about. Dales in Benton, AR have the best donuts. If you ever had it you would choose them any day of the week over Krispy Creme. They are way better than Krispy Creme. We don't have a dunkin donuts that I know of though.

You bring up a good point about the doughnut recipes. KK does seem lighter, and more "fluffy" as you describe it. That's good if you like to bite into the doughnut and sort of feel like there is nothing there, but flavor.

Personally, I like the more cake like thickness of the DD doughnuts. It's a personal preference thing.
