UFC 109 Results

UFC 109 is finally here and I have decided to post round by round live UFC 109 results instead of just writing my typical UFC 109 recap or whichever UFC recap, all you need to do to see the live round by round recap is refresh this page. If you want to take a peek at my UFC 109 predictions before the fight starts have at it, I posted who my predictions were next to each of the fights below for those of you that are too lazy to click through to my predictions. haha

I will also be posting pictures from each of the fights as they happen, it won’t be anything crazy but it will be UFC 109 pictures.

UFC 109 Results

Matt Serra vs Frank Trigg

First fight of the night (after the awesome prelims on Spike TV), and I’m fired up as I live blog this and get ready for Serra vs Trigg, those of you that read my UFC 109 predictions know that I picked Matt Serra to win this fight. Stay tuned for the Live UFC 109 Results as I post them here.

UFC 109 Pictures Matt Serra

UFC 109 Pictures

Before anything really got off the ground Matt Serra connected with a massive right and knocked Trigg down, Serra quickly pounced and it was lights out for Trigg. Most likely lights out on his career, and just for the record that puts me 3-0 so far on the night including prelims. Matt Serra defeats Frank Trigg.

My Prediction: Matt Serra

Demian Maia vs Dan Miller

Round 1 Maia vs Miller

This should be another sweet fight, Maia looked extremely focused coming down to the ring. Time for round one. So far the fight is off to a pretty quick start with both Maia and Miller exchanging in the center early on, now both fighters are in a clinch against the fence. Both fighters are off the fence and back in the center of the ring, Maia lands a nice kick and follows up with a nice takedown against the cage. Miller managed to escape, only to get kneed in the beans. Time out.

Maia finished off the first round with a nice trip to close off the round, I would have to give the first round to Maia even though Miller has done an excellent job of getting back to his feet any time Maia gets the take down.

Round 2: Maia vs Miller

Nothing exciting within the first 1:30 of the second round, a lot of circling and a few random strikes connecting from time to time for either fighter. So far the second round is going to be very tough to score, with 1:40 remaining in the round there hasn’t been any major action by either fighter. If I were to score the round at this point I would have to give it to Maia. The crowd is booing and Joe Rogan is commenting in regards to the fight not being the most exciting fight, he’s on the money there. It does have the potential to be a very good third round if either fighter gets off the ground and presses the action.

Round 3: Maia vs Miller

I hope to god this round is more exciting than round two, I can’t handle another dancing match. Damian Maia went for a take down and looked to get caught by a Miller punch that seemed to stun him, Maia managed to recover quickly and take Miller down. Both fighters are against the cage, Miller walks up the cage and escapes any real ground and pound or anything for that matter.

Maia quickly takes the fight back to the ground and controls from the top position, Maia is cut but I can’t really see exactly where. With :40 left in the final round the crowd begins to crank up the bore me to death meter, and Maia continues his control from the top and the round comes to an end without really any excitement. Put the first snoozer of the night in the books. I would imagine Maia wins by unanimous decision. Official decision is Damian Maia defeats Dan Miller by unanimous decision, make that 4-0 so far tonight.

My Prediction: Damian Maia

Mike Swick vs Paulo Thiago

It’s time for the Swick vs Thiago, you know as a former Mike Swick sponsor (Extreme Tan and Smoothies), we are pulling for Mike Swick to come back with a big win tonight. Lovin Swick coming out to Tupac!

Round 1: Swick vs Thiago

Thiago hooked Swick up early in the round with a nice kick that almost swept Swick, he quickly recovered and hit Thiago with a big right that stunned Thiago momentarily. Thiago throws another big leg kick which will become a problem for Swick if this fight continues to go deep in to the rounds, with the bombs being thrown I would be amazed to see this fight go the distance.

Pretty solid first round for both fighters, Swick closed out the round with a take down that most likely won him the first round.

Round 2: Swick vs Thiago

The second round is off to a much slower pace. O.k, nevermind while I was writing that a quick exchange broke out Thiago was hurt for a moment and returned fire and knocked Swick to the ground, Thiago quickly jumps on Swick and locked up a nasty choke that rendered Swick unconscious. There goes the streak, 4-1. DAMN IT!!

My Prediction: Mike Swick

Nate Marquardt vs Chael Sonnen

Round 1: Marquardt vs Sonnen

Now it’s time for some excitement, I wouldn’t mind seeing Sonnen slip and catch a beat down in this fight. Chael is instantly looking for the take down with every exchange. Sonnen nailed the take down and has managed to ground and pound Marquardt against the cage, at this point it doesn’t look like Nate Marquardt has an answer. Marquardt managed to get the fight back to the feet, Sonnen instantly gets it back to the ground and Marquardt is bleeding, not sure from where. The ground and pound continues. No doubt Sonnen won the first round.

Round 2: Marquardt vs Sonnen

Sonnen instantly takes the fight to the ground right from go and continues the ground and pound, Marquardt seems to have no answer for the take downs or ground and pound. Marquardt just nailed Sonnen with a nasty elbow from the bottom and Sonnen is busted open in a big big way, he is assaulting Nate Marquardt. I would have to give the round to Sonnen even with Marquardt nailing Sonnen with a brutal elbow from the bottom that busted Sonnen wide open.

Round 3: Marquardt vs Sonnen

The thirs starts out exactly like the first two, with Sonnen dragging Marquardt to the ground and beating him up every second of the round. Marquardt tries to escape to his feet and he is successful, he’s dragged back to the ground within a few seconds. Marquardt has no answer. Marquardt had a moment where it looked like he had a nasty choke on Sonnen, some how Sonnen escapes again. Marquardt is on top but doing absolutely nothing with it. The fight ends with Marquardt on top dropping a few monstrous blows opening Sonnen up even more, sadly I don’t think it will be enough for Nate to pull off the win.

Winner by unanimous decision Chael Sonnen.

My Prediction: Nate Marquardt

Randy Couture vs Mark Coleman

UFC 109 Picture Randy Couture vs Mark Coleman

Couture vs Coleman Pictures

Round 1: Couture vs Coleman

Pretty sweet Mark Coleman is coming out to “Drop the World” by Lil Wayne feat. Eminem, I included that video in my Happy New Year 2010 post.

The two old schoolers get to the center of the ring and Randy doesn’t take long to start connecting on the slow Coleman who manages to start throwing, randy actually backed up for a moment. Randy Couture has Coleman prssed up against the cage and is dirty boxing like he typically would, hitting Coleman with some brutal elbows and upper cuts. The first round closed out with Couture holding Coleman against the cage working the dirty boxing, not at any high rate of speed but he was still working it. Easily Couture’s round.

Round 2: Couture vs Coleman

Randy comes out and hurts Coleman again and drags Coleman to the ground with a full mount, Coleman is in big trouble. Randy Couture wins by rear naked choke.

My Prediction: Randy Couture

P.s. On a side note Coleman did manage to tell Tito Ortiz off at the end of his interview with a giant “Fuck You Tito”, Coleman went on to grab the mic again and say, “Fuck you Tito, any time douche bag.” Gotta love anytime someone gets called a douche bag, when it’s Tito Ortiz it’s even better, I guess we can count this as a feeder for a possible future fight between Tito and Coleman. Yawn.

Just watched the prelims on the DVR and i have to say that Mac Danzig looked great. I wish i could of watched the PPV fights but i had some family b.s. to deal with. Anyway your commentary has been great. Sorry to hear about your boy Swick getting choked out but Thiago is a bad mofo. I haven’t heard any results from the main event but my money is on Coleman. Also i hope Anderson Sylvia destroys that ahole Chael Sonnen. Thanks for the updates.

@Blu-ray player reviews, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment. Swick needs to come up with some new answers, hopefully he gets his shit together and gets back in with a win soon.

I posted the update to the main event…. I had the same pick as you.

@Extreme John, I appreciate all that Coleman did for the UFC, but the mind and body can only take so much. I feel the same way about Trigg.

@T Vitiello, I would have to agree with you. Coleman, his heart and determination are unreal. He’s fought the best at his time and he’s had his time, he still wants to fight but I think it might be tome to let the lights go dim.

@John Sullivan, Let’s talk 110. Velasquez is an up and comer and has Big Nogs finally reached that state where he has taken one to many? Larry Holmes once said, I can see the punch, but can’t get out of the way.

Who would have predicted Nate would get manhandled by Sonnen. I was blown away by the beating he gave Marquardt. I now want to see him in the octagn with Silva or Belfort. That should turn out to be an amazing fight. Is Sonnen the one who stop Silva’s regin at 185?

Extreme John, you’re probably going to fall over in shock, but I actually ordered this ppv. I was curious to see The Hammer fight in his battle of the dinosaurs. Plus, I like Matt Serra and think Frank Trigg is a pussy.

I loved how Coleman wouldn’t tap. That’s nuts. And I don’t think I could handle watching Coleman vs. Ortiz.

@The Constant Complainer,

Coleman is much older than Ortiz so I think Ortiz will win a UD…but they would just stare with each other in the third round.

Sonnen does not even train full time, he is a Real Estate agent and is running for some government office. I still do not think he could be Silva, but who knows, Silva looks so cocky sometimes he is going to get beat. Reminds me of Roy Jones Jr. There is a good article about it on yahoo somewhere I think.
