Manny Paquiao defeats Miguel Cotto

Manny Pacquiao went on to win his unprecedented 7th world title tonight in Las Vegas Nevada as he brutalized Miguel Cotto in twelve rounds, the referee stopped the fight giving Pacquiao the win by TKO.

I won’t make this a long review of the fight as the fight pretty much went how the general public thought it would go, odds makers gave Cotto better odds than the public did and the public proved to be right. Manny Pacquiao started the first round out slow which allowed Cotto to deliver some solid jabs and connect with a few power shots, ultimately winning the first round.

Miguel Cotto pressed the action for most of the fight as he seemed to continue to walk forward regardless of the fact that Manny was hitting him with brutal shots throughout, even with Cotto throwing power punches Pacquiao still continued to walk right through them. Manny Pacquiao dropped Cotto in the third round and again in the 6th round, I was honestly surprised that Cotto stayed up for as long as he did from that point on because he was getting hit with blistering shots.

After the 9th round it was obvious that Miguel Cotto knew he was a beaten man as he continued to run on the outside of the ring for the remainder of the fight, at times causing Manny Pacquiao to get frustrated and stop chasing for a moment. At this point it was also clear that there was real concern in Cotto’s corner for his safety as they warned Cotto that they were only going to give him one more round to respond to Manny’s onslaught.

Paquiao stayed pretty laid back for the 10th round which bought Cotto another round from his corner, Cotto paid the price for it by getting hammered with more vicious shots in the 11th round. Between rounds Miguel Cotto’s father wanted to stop the fight and was talked out of it by Cotto’s trainer and the rest of his corner men, by this point every knew it was a matter of time.

As Miguel Cotto pedaled around the ring to avoid anymore crushing shots from Paquiao he continued to get stalked and hit with punches from all angles, finally at :55 of the 12th round the referee jumped in to stop the fight during another Manny Paquiao flurry of speed and power. Manny Paquiao wins by TKO.

Overall the fight card had some solid fights with plenty of knockdowns and excellent exchanges to keep you tuned in, it was a nice change from most of the previous fights I have seen from the Boxing world lately. Boxing should thank it’s lucky stars for Manny Paquaio, he continues to bring excitement in to every fight without the trash talking and drama that typically surrounds Boxing events.

If you watched the fight tonight leave a comment with your take on the fight, if your a Boxing fan or just someone that likes Manny Paquiao feel free to leave a comment as well.

Now off to write my UFC 105 Review.

Awesome fight. It looked close in the first few rounds but once Pacquiao got his rhythm going there was nothing Cotto could do. I do, however, give kudos to Cotto for stepping out there during the later rounds. I just kind of wish he wasn’t back pedaling the whole time.

@Seth Sym, I would have to agree in regards to the back pedaling. I can respect him though for answering every bell even while he knew he was a very beaten man, he has nothing to be ashamed of by any means. He just met one of the most elite fighters we have ever seen.

Go Pacquiao!!! Another dominate win by the pacman. A win that I didn’t think would happen tonight. I thought Cotto was gonna take this fight or at least make a better bid for the victory than he did.

@John Uy, first off thank you for taking the time to comment.

I am surprised, you thought Cotto was going to win this one huh? I had Manny winning big, but I will say that the first round concerned me, especially when he was letting Cotto hit him with those neck snapping jabs.

I was so proud about the victory. Manny is really an awesome boxer and there’s no stopping on him. Come on Floyd Mayweather, you’re the next one!

I’m frustrated since I totally forgot about the game being stuck at my room with my trusty photoshop this whole day. Anyways, no surprise here/ Proud to be Filipino. Go Pacquiao. Mayweather, where art thou?

@Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee, I would have to agree with you on this go around, all though I try to refrain from comparing the two because I have moved beyond that to respect both sports :) hahaha Kidding, I call it how I see it and last night you were right. It didn’t help that the Randy fight was such a love fest.

First round was the only round I think Manny lost to Cotto. From then on Manny pounces on the bigger man Cotto and knocked him down twice before Cotto switches to cycling.

They should have stopped it earlier as its very clear from 6 round onwards that Cotto is under survival mode.

Now let me see what the other ducking champion (PBF) got to say about this fight and if he’s going to find another excuse not to fight Manny. The other ducking champ I am talking about is fighting in MMA

Speaking of MMA, I’ve totally forgot its in Europe so its past midnight here, I thought its going to be morning.

@ZXT, hopefully Mayweather doesn’t blow this, there will certainly be stacks of money flying around for this one and he’s a money slut so why not.

Pacquiao is a freak in nature. Seems like he carries his speed and power to welterweight and yes he can take punches from a strong welterweight.

If the Mayweather fight happens and he win then he can retire for good still at the peak of his career.

Great job by Pacquiao but it wasn’t easy. When I saw the 1st round I thought it will be a close fight. Pacquiao will have a hard time against Mayweather though.
