Manny Paquiao vs Floyd Mayweather for the Fans?

Paquiao vs Mayweather

On Saturday boxing fans were treated to another display of boxing greatness by one of boxing’s greatest fighters of all time Manny “Pac-Man” Paquiao, the latest victim to lose a championship belt to “Pac-Man” was heavy hitter Miguel Cotto. Manny Paquiao brutalized Miguel Cotto for twelve rounds before the fight was stopped by the referee, a stoppage that should have probably come in the 9th round.

Chances are that most boxing fans started to think about the possibility of a Manny Paquiao vs Floyd Mayweather super fight somewhere around the 6th round when the fight was clearly one sided in Paquiao’s favor. It didn’t take long after the fight for the question to come up or for boxing fans to start talking about the possible match-up between Paquiao and Mayweather. It seems pretty clear that just about everyone wants to see the fight.

I can’t help but think that even with all of the public interest in the fight and the massive paydays that both fighters would see, that there is a realistic chance that we might never see this fight happen. I can’t imagine that any boxing promoter or the fighters themselves would want that huge pile of money to fade away without someone getting their hands on it, but crazier things have happened and unless both fighters can agree on the purse split it just may never happen.

I am curious as to what your thoughts are on the possibility of a championship super fight between Manny Paquiao and Floyd Mayweather, do you think boxing needs this fight to keep the wind in it’s sales? Do you see this fight actually happening anytime soon? Leave a comment and share your thoughts on these two legendary fighters and the outcome you would like to see, do you even want to see them fight?

P.s. I want to see this fight in a bad, bad way.

Looks like veryone wants to see the fight. I think with millions of dollars in the table, the fight will happen. How about 40 percent for each fighter guaranteed and the other 20 percent gets by the winner? Fair enough?

@MichaelR, hey I think it’s more than fair enough. I think either way they both will make huge money if it gets done.

The fight is definitely going to happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if behind the scenes, the two parties are right now making the initial discussions.

As with all of his fights, I of course would bet on the Pacman to win. In the Philippines, Cotto sounds like ‘kuto’ which is Filipino for ‘louse’ (singular for lice). Looks like the Pacman squished the Cotto and soon, Floyd just may wither under the Pacman’s barrage.

The pacquiao vs mayweather fight should definitely happen. Boxing is now becoming an afterthought now that UFC and the world of mixed-martial arts is going mainstream.

It needs something to bring back the glory.

@ark, there are a lot of people that will agree with you in regards to what boxing needs.

I will say that I am a Boxing fan, but I rarely ever get the PPV events anymore because there are rarely any fights I want to see. This fight is one I would pay $100 to see on PPV.

I’d be rooting for Pacman to smash the Pretty Boy.
And yes, I think boxing as a sport needs fights liek this one take place just so that it can continue to survive, ‘cos without these “superfights” boxingf is heading downward slowly, but surely

@Hard Rocking South African@Music Judge, I know that Boxing needs fights like this when it comes to me and what I will buy on PPV and what I won’t.

There was a time I never missed a Boxing PPV, there could have been 3 cards a month and I would have gotten them all, now I never miss an MMA PPV EVER, but Boxing…. I think I purchased maybe 2 at best this year, maybe 3.

I hope it happens. Yankee Stadium is already working to get the fight there late next spring.

@Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee, how classic would that be to watch these two fighters get in on there.

All though I will admit it wouldn’t be too bad seeing it go down at MSG.

Boxing has been the red headed step child of MMA for years now. They need to do something to bring back some interest in the crooked sport of boxing. If they were smart, (IBF) boxing would bring this fight and any others of interest to the ring. It may help a little but UFC is way to strong for boxing to make a true comeback. Lets put Don King in the ring with the guy who sells those grills ( I think George was a boxer back in the day ). Make today A Super Safari Day.

If this match happens this would be the fight of the Century! Pacman, winning 7 world titles and Mayweather with no defeats and i think with 6 titles… This would be brutal… For Pacman, pride is at stake, for Mayweather, its all about money.

Whether Pacman wins or not on this match, He already marked History… No one can remove that on his name…
