Mark Maconi Homes Quality and Service FAIL

by Extreme John on August 20, 2009 |

This is the one, this is the rant that triggered Hell Week a Week of Rants here on Extreme John.com, I have written about Mark Maconi Homes before and how unhappy I was with them and well it’s no surprise that the “Quality Home Builder” is back in the mix.

A little over a year ago I noticed that an area of the ceiling in our garage above my car had started to crack and it looked like I could see some water damage. My instant thought is that I am going to get screwed around with this situation, I can remember that thought racing through my head as soon as I saw the area of concern.

Now don’t get me wrong here I wouldn’t have that instant feeling of concern if I hadn’t already experienced being jerked around by the good folks at Mark Maconi Homes in Florida. I had the exciting chance to see how quickly they fail to get things resolved right after I moved into our house, a house that we had built.

Upon moving in there was a crack that stretched across the drywall in our living room and needed to be repaired, that repair took almost six months to get done between Mark Maconi Homes not following up on the progress of the job, and of course the fact that the drywall company they contracted to do the job sucked. Needless to say three years later and that ceiling is still completley screwed up… Quality. hahaha

Mark Maconi Homes Quality FAIL

Now back to the issue at hand, the leaky roof in the garage that is clearly causing ceiling damage above my car.

I call Mark Maconi homes about this issue and speak to one of the girls in the office who schedules a gentleman named Jerry to come out and look at that issue, along with one other issue we were having. Jerry said he knew exactly where the leak in the garage was and also knew exactly how to fix the other problem and that he would be back to repair everything when he was prepared.

Jerry showed up when he said he would and went on to assure us that he had fixed the leak in the garage and the other issue we were having in our master bathroom. As time went on it seemed as if everything was fine and taken care of, that didn’t last too long as the issue in the master bathroom returned about a month after Jerry had “fixed it”. All though the bathroom issue was still in full effect it seemed as if the roof was ok, or at least it did for the time being.

Mark Maconi Homes Ceiling Water Damage

Let’s fast forward to just a few months ago when  I pulled into my garage when returning home from work to find paint chips on the garage floor right under the ceiling that Jerry never came back to paint and repair as promised. Now I am pissed, had my car been there I would have had water soaked bright white paint land on the hood and interior of my car, here comes the bullshit I knew I would be dealing with when I called Mark Maconi’s office on US 19 in Palm Harbor Florida.

The first call is a joy and everyone seems on board, I explain how Jerry thought he had repaired the issue when he was here and never came back to repair the actual ceiling or the leak. Now the front office was ready to go, they were sending out the original job foreman that handled the build of our house, his name is Chuck and unlike Jerry I worked with Chuck for a little over a year while waiting for the house to get done.

Chuck came out the following week to look at the roof and he brought Jerry with him, Chuck was up in the attic and sounded very confident that he had found the leak and recognized how Jerry might have mistaken the leak to be in a different area. After Chuck comes down from the attic he tells me everything will be taken care of and quickly, he was going to call and setup an appointment with a different roofing company and meet them out at the house to show them exactly where the leak was.

A couple of weeks go by and thankfully we had a very dry season up until this point so the water damage hit a sitting point while Chuck and everyone else tried to get their shit together to get out here and look at the roof leak, finally the roofing company shows up…. without Chuck.

I was at the office the day that the roofing company showed up and looked at everything, they told Lisa that they would send over an estimate for some of the roofing tiles that needed to be replaced and they would bring them out when they did the repair. It’s now been a little over three months and we still have yet to recieve an estimate for the roofing tiles that need replacing and we have yet to see anyone come out to fix the leak. Mark Maconi homes is a joke.

Over the course of the last couple of months I have called Mark Maconi homes at least three times a week to try and get answers, only to be led around and jerked around just like I figured I would be. Chuck never calls back, Sue at the office couldn’t be anymore nasty when she answers the phone and after about two months of talking with her a few times a week she finally stuck to her word and had someone call me back, this was last Wednesday and only after I called her twice that day.

I finally get a return phone call from someone that I have never spoken to before at the Mark Maconi office in Palm Harbor, some guy named John who is nice enough to finally return my phone call only to tell me that I have to call some extended warranty company. Awesome, more bullshit after plenty of bullshit from Mark Maconi homes because you know calling this warranty company is going to be a fuckin joke.

I spent a few moments telling John from Mark Maconi Homes just how much I thought their customer service sucked and just how much I didn’t appreciate the run around that I got after dealing with them on this leak for over a year. I also spent a moment or two explaining to him that I would be sure to spend the rest of my life telling everyone exactly how I feel about Mark Maconi Homes and the shit ass quality and customer service skills they have.

John of course couldn’t give two shits and barely could mutter up a quick “sorry you feel that way”. Umm no dick don’t feel sorry for me feeling that way, feel sorry for the fact that I had to deal with a bunch of useless, inconsiderate, unprofessional and incompetent idiots that are employed by Mark Maconi Homes in Palm Harbor, Florida.

It’s been rainy season so the ceiling just continues to get worse and worse as I get ready for my next stage of being jerked around, which will come at the hands of some company that I never even heard of before. I come home now to paint on the floor, paint on the hood of my car and of course paint chips in the interior of my car, all because Mark Maconi Homes couldn’t follow up or take 10 minutes to properly handle a customer service issue.

So how would you handle this situation if you were in my shoes? My initial thought is to drive my car through the front of their lobby to get someone’s attention that might actually give two shits, but that would just screw up the ride even more. Leave a comment and let me know how you would handle this or if you can recommend a way for me to get this resolved with minimal aggravation, I already have plenty thanks to three years of dealing with Mark Maconi Homes.

@Christie, yeah this is becoming a pretty big joke, actually walked out to see a tremendous strip of white paint down the hood of my car this morning.

I am considering taking everything that is removed from the ceiling when it is actually fixed and throwing it right in front of their office door at like 5am so they can walk into the mess first thing in the morning. Just like I am forced to do each day for the last year and a half.

Why not just pay someone to fix it and sue them in small claims court?

@Jill, looks like that’s going to be the scenario, it’s more about the point than anything.

@Extreme John,
Yeah, but you’re saying your car is getting ruined. Some times the point is only worth making in front of a judge. ;)

@Jill, the car isn’t getting ruined, now in the event the ceiling falls (which it will at some point) than it would damage the car.

Very true some points are good for judges and other points are good for the public, I am actively working on the situation regardless if I write an article complaining about them here. People in the area need to know.

Although throwing the stuff in front of their business would be VERY satisfying  I wonder if there’s a consumer advocate you could call to embarrass them on TV?

@Christie, there is all though I am really not much of a TV guy if you know what I mean.

Still a very open option though.

I read your other post about this topic too. I say if they don’t resolve it, you post as much of their contact information (as you can find) on here and let your readers have some fun messing with them too. LOL. Now that’s my idea of fun!

That’s too bad. Your experience sounds terrible. I had something similar with some exterior work. It is so frustrating – at least the bad review can make others aware.

So, I guess the only question that remains is exactly how many places do you want me to anchor this page for for Mark Maconi Homes across the Internet?

Haha I doubt anyone is searching them for a new home at this point anyway, I look forward to the opportunity to buy another new house… Ruttenburg or just about anyone else, I can assure you it won’t be a Maconi home thats for damn sure.
