Ahhh, now this is having fun with social media. Well, at least for me it is. Those of you that subscribe to my rss feed or connect with me via social networking sites like Twitter (@extremejohn) or my Facebook fan page know just how much I enjoy being involved in social media, especially as a small business owner. A few days ago I wrote, “Using Social Media to Develop a Product” which briefly outlined my addiction to social media and explained how we used the Extreme Tan and Smoothies fan page to come up with a new tanning lotion idea.
Today I want to share something new that we just kicked off on the Extreme Tan and Smoothies Facebook fan page, who knows maybe you can put a spin on it for your small business or Facebook fan page.
Facebook Fan Page Free Tanning Giveaway
The giveaway is simple and goes something like this…

1) Like the Extreme Tan and Smoothies Facebook fan page
2) Enter your email address, first and last name
3) Print the email we send you that contains a $25 FREE tanning voucher
That’s it.
Now as you can see by the graphic above the giveaway is for the first 60,000 people to “Like” the Extreme Tan and Smoothies #fb fan page, that amounts to $1.5 million in free tanning giveaways. Now I guess you can see why these things can be so much fun, and if nothing else who knows maybe we will hit 10k followers one day.

I’ve been seeing a lot of businesses advertise like this. I think it’s great because it involves a little interaction with the customer. Plus, you have all these email addresses now and can run a special selling your new lotion?

that’s a nice way to promote your page… they can give away a lot of vouchers… they know that from 60k, maybe 1000 will actually use the voucher, but that’s a nice way to make yourself known…

Being too big of a chicken shit to use a real name when you comment is a FAIL… no question about it “Fail?”
FACT: Tanning salons slowest time of the year is the LAST 4 MONTHS. When the interest in tanning bed tanning increases as season approaches so will the amount of likes and redemption.
I will take 1900 redemptions in a 4 month period with an average customer ticket of $58 anytime of the year. So no I wouldn’t consider the promo lame at all.
Let’s assess your business strategy. Post it online and shoot me a link, I would love to learn from your wizardry.
Facebook have almost 500mil users. So is no reason to think that is not the best for business.
