Buffer Pin It Social Media Done Right

Here comes another one of those social media “THANK YOU” posts that are long over due on my part, don’t worry though I won’t be throwing down the same excuse that I threw down in my post from Tuesday. Instead of throwing out the excuses I want to take a moment and share a positive experience I recently had with McDonald’s via Twitter. Well, actually let me re-phrase that…. I had an excellent McDoanld’s experience that I decided to tweet about on Twitter (@extremejohn) one day which turned around and led to another excellent McDonald’s experience, except this time on Twitter itself instead of at the drive-thru.

During the indoor tanning season I typically don’t have a ton of time to fuel up in the morning and put together a decent breakfast and I typically don’t have the patience to sit down somewhere either, I just want to get moving. McDonald’s kept me moving pretty much every morning over the last three months, you can see some of my time spent at McDonald’s via my Foursquare check-ins. Yes, I am the Mayor of two McDonald’s as well.

Since I am such a creature of habit I always get the same things when I hit a McDonald’s drive-thru, in the morning it has to be the #5 combo with a medium coke instead of a coffee, that would be the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit combo btw. If I have some MickeyD’s for lunch it would have to be the Angus Bacon Cheeseburger combo, incredibly filling and it tastes awesome.

Anyway, back to how I had an excellent experience with McDonald’s on Twitter. After tweeting about my addiction to the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit @Molly-Mcds on Twitter was nice enough to write me, Molly works for McDonald’s. Molly connected with me and was nice enough to send out the following little package as a way of saying, “thanks”.

McDonald’s on Twitter @mcdonalds

McDonald's on Twitter

Pretty sweet that Molly from McDonald’s, @Molly-Mcds on Twitter addressed the letter to Extreme John. Sorry, sometimes the smallest things excite me.

Social Media Tips

I love the simple yet VERY effective hand written note that @Molly-Mcds from McDonald’s included with my free Southern Style Chicken Sandwich coupon, you have to admit there is something pretty sweet about a hand written note from a major MASSIVE corporation like McDonald’s. The perfect personal touch that is needed if you intend on using social media as a tool for connecting with customers, Molly represents McDonald’s and their social media program perfectly.

Big thanks to Molly and McDonald’s, my free Southern Chicken Biscuit was just as juicy as always.

P.s. I still haven’t heard back from @McDonalds about McDonald’s delivery yet. haha.

I don’t eat McDonald’s (except for the fries), but the one in my county has the best customer service I have seen anywhere. And, yes, there is but one McDonald’s in my entire county. 8-O .-= Anne Bender´s last blog ..What a Hack! =-.

I haven’t been to McDonalds for ages, the last time I went the Big Macs had turned into Mini Macs and I swear most of the burgers were getting smaller and the price was getting bigger! But I digress, great to hear about your experience you had there

Does this mean that I need to get rid of my Rotary home phone and my cassette deck player now John.
I guess all this networking, blogging and droid phones really do work.
Glad to see that a BIG corporation still has everyday people working their individual stores. Verizon could use a little McDonalds in their customer service gameplan. As well, as all of us that own businesses
CUSTOMER SERVICE IS KING!! Do that little extra thing and you get rewarded 10 fold everytime.

Very cool! I recently had the Twitter for Pizza Hut come to the rescue for some horrible customer service. It’s amazing that just reaching out and showing that you care can make a big difference.

Don’t try it with Burger King.

@Dave Nannies, I have tweeted about BK before but they don’t seem too concerned about communicating. Good example Dave.

that is really cool..surprised it did happen..most big companies don’t usually care about little stuff like that .it must mean they take their customer care seriously…very good for their business.
just see it this way, being nice to you has gotten them a post from your blog ,that will be read by many…awesome for you and them..all companies should emulate this…this is what i called subtle marketing

Molly, might have seen you by the drive thru every morning. If this happens to me I might be also excited as well.

@Sympathy Plants, haha even if Molly did see me she wouldn’t really have any way of knowing who I am or how to get in touch with me.

Sounds like a very positive experience! McDonald’s generally is doing somethings that do impress me – I recently had their McNuggets for the first time in a long while, and they were excellent. And the McDonald’s around me has free wifi; combine that with the coffee and I can actually get work done there.

I suspect I could learn something from their use of social media: when there’s something to give, social media looks like it can be that much more effective.

@ashok, it’s funny you mention the Chicken McNuggets because I have been getting them with a coffee every once in a while and the nuggets are pretty awesome now.

Social media wise they def. give it a run that’s for sure.

Yay John! People clearly don’t want a Big Corporate ‘response’ but a subtle ‘personal recognition’ and it’ll pay dividends…. the more personal the better? I do affiliate marketing online and was always put off by pretentious corporate fronts put on customer service and into communications with us marketers. Big lesson here. Small guy flexibility and feeling based social-subtle messaging? Something for the heart. :-P Geoff D.

:laughat: ha ha what a laugh to see obvious sp^m from the fast foods industry where keywords have been about ‘home delivery’ and McD’s — John you’ve got a totally broad sense of humor to allow such a blatant comment like the above! listen for an uproar … I can’t believe my eyes.

John,

Its amazing that a Huge Multi Billion Dollar corporation
would take the time to do this

But maybe that show they got to be a Huge Multi Billion
Dollar corporation in the first place

Little things like that can go a long way in creating good will
