Memorial Day peace

by Extreme John on May 26, 2008 |

Seems a little odd for me to be saying Memorial Day and Peace in the same sentence, it’s very clear there is no peace especially for our soldiers across the globe. Now with that said that’s enough of me stating the obvious. When I say “Memorial Day Peace” it’s in reference to my life and the day I had on Memorial Day.

Typically for Memorial Day Weekend we have people over on Saturday and Sunday than usually end up spending Memorial Day at Shepards on Clearwater Beach. We usually sponsor the Bikini contest that runs from Memorial Day thru July 4th weekend, that changed last year when Jason and some of the others at Shepards took to long to get back to us in regards to our sponsorship, so we ended up sponsoring the July 4th thru Labor Day Weekend Bikini Contest. Recently I wrote a review on Shepards when I went up there with some people I do business with and a couple of their friends, if you read that review on Shepards you will understand why I had no intentions of going there again this year.

This Memorial Day Weekend was very much like the last Memorial Day Weekend except for Memorial Day itself. This year I took the time to explain to my soon to be 7 year old Daughter what Memorial Day was all about and the real meaning of Memorial Day. This Memorial Day was for family and some close friends, with a great day of BBQing and relaxing mixed with some mixed drinks and some amazing food from Omaha Steaks. It was nice for a change relaxing and doing something different from the normal 3 day Holiday weekend.

We should all be very grateful to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is hard sometimes for kids to really understand the magnitude of the sacrifice involved. But it is worth the effort to explain. It will mean even more to her one day.
