More reasons why the Economy sucks

by Extreme John on December 12, 2008 |

I am getting just as tired of writing about this shit lately as I am of hearing about this shit too, and at the end of the day I have the same fucking feeling about it…. It’s our own damn fault.

Well kinda. Basically in short form the lazy fuckers in our society created this problem along with a couple of other things, but trust me it starts with the lazy assholes or maybe it should be irresponsible?

In the last couple of days I have talked with six specific different business owners/companies I do business with on some level, each one of those business owners/companies being someone we paid to do something or scheduled to get an estimate from. All of these Business owners/Business’s have failed to do one single thing they said they were going to do. For instance the outdoor landscape lighting company we used when we had the landscape lighting put in a few years ago, call the guy (owner) and he NEVER calls back. When I say never people I mean it, basically if you want to get in touch with him he either needs to be in the area or he has to answer his phone directly. Im just curious why he doesn’t have someone answer the phone for him or have someone check messages for him if it’s so fucking hard to answer the phone or return phone calls. Easy problem to solve, find another Landscape lighting guy.

Are you satisfied with Customer service levels these days?

One of the other Business owners I have been dealing with for a couple of months is starting to get on my nerves. This is the classic “A Sound Decision” as I like to call it, quote a job for a certain time frame and never come close to actually hitting that time frame. I have known this Business owner for a long time now and didn’t find the job to be all that big but it’s still almost twice as long as the initial time frame. Another good feature to this Business owner is hearing back from them days after you write them.

The list goes on and on and the scenarios are all much of the same, failure to return calls, failure to deliver as scheduled, poor communication. All three of the things listed are all nothing more than people being lazy and/or unorganized or whatever else you can think of. Regardless it’s a big part of what’s gone on in this country for a while and increased a tremendous amount through the last few years as people made money on accident. There are excellent business owners all over the place and I will address them in my year end Business Reviews Recap, but there are also plenty that really dont have the urge to do business or do what needs to be done to run that business at a level that it satisfies the customer. I think (and I hope) that as time goes on your going to see Good Service coming back in place of the “Tough shit you have to use us” ideas that run through so many business owners heads.

A word of advice…. Focus on Excellent Customer Service especially in an Economy like this because your customers are going to be less likely to accept your short comings.

just wanted to comment about this one: first I moved here in PA about 8 years ago-bought a house, needed some stuff done called up couple different contractors NO ONE CALLED or bothered to call me back, had to get people from NEW YORK to help me with the house… I started a shower door company in 2007, going back to basics ,customer service is my trademark, just because I was busy DOES NOT MEAN: DONT CALL BACK CUSTOMERS BECAUSE IM BUSY, NO MATTER THE TIME :I CALLED BACK…PERIOD. I recently was watching the news when i heard one of my competitors (owns 6 branches-been in business 30 years) SAY: WE HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE BASICS ,KEEP IN CONTACT WITH CUSTOMERS…IS THIS GUY A FREAKIN JOKE… IT IS ALL ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE- IF THE CUSTOMER IS NOT HAPPY OR U FAILED TO CALL BACK A CUSTOMER YOU WILL NOT GET ANOTHER JOB FROM THEM OR ANY OF THERE FRIENDS AND IT GOES ON…..SO IF OWNERS OF COMPANYS SAYS WE HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE BASICS, DONT USE THEM…EVER. CUSTOMERS ARE #1 PRIORTY…….KEEP THEM HAPPY AND THEY WILL USE U AGAIN AND AGAIN…

I completely agree that customer service just sucks these days. I have had a number of issues lately with just the quality of work these days.

A simple one was my lawn guy switched us to another guy named Joe. This guy was supposed to be here every week on Thursday to cut the grass. Many times he did not show up till the next week as the grass grew sky high. Not to mention I was paying for it to be done every week in the summer. Finally after getting pissed and threatening a couple of times to go with another lawn service they are now out every Thursday. But it shouldn’t have taken that for them to show up on time and just cut the grass.

I could site many other examples but I am going to call it a day. Enjoy all of your articles and posts. Later, Steve

I agree that customer service has slipped to unacceptable levels. It is just amazing to me how such bad customer service is tolerated. Companies I actually look forward to dealing with are few: Amazon, Crutchfield, Trader Joe’s (and some local restaurants). Other than that it is mainly about how much I want to avoid dealing with the company (so much I won’t do it at all…).
