It’s been a hot minute since I posted any product reviews around here, it seems that lately most of my reviews are in regards to WordPress plugins and social media instead of physical products. (Long pause to use the Google custom search box and find my last product review)…. Oh, here it is “Community Coffee Pecan Praline Review“, posted on September 30, 2009. Yeah, it’s been a long time.
Now that we cleared up how long it’s been since I posted my last product review I guess we should get down to what you came here for, my Motorola Droid Review. One thing I would like to add before getting in to my review is that I don’t do paid reviews here on my blog, as a matter of fact if you look around you’ll see that Extreme John.com is a banner free blog. It always has been, any review I write here is a review based on how I see things and not based on how someone that paid me wants me to see things.
Motorola Android Review
I like to keep my reviews as simple as possible, again I’m not a huge tech head or tech pro that goes out and buys various gadgets just to test them and review them here on my blog, all though I would love that job. So if your expecting some expert detail or the most ground breaking Droid review your probably going to be let down, this is a review from a business owner and blogging ceo that relies heavily on his cell phone.
Motorola Droid “Likes”
Overall the Motorola Droid is making my life much easier as I find more Droid apps that help me with daily operations I’m sure this list will only get larger, instead of going bananas with every little feature I like about the Droid here’s a list of a few of the key features that work great for me.
- Much easier on my hands then my Blackberry was.
- Shortcuts wherever I want them.
- Complete integration with my Google account.
- Droid Apps store.
- Droid makes working while on the go seamless.
- Camera takes excellent pictures.
- The Qwerty keyboard is a great option for when touch screen just won’t cut it.
- 3G baby!
Motorola Droid “Dislikes”
Chances are I will be following this post up with a post about the things that I hate about my Motorola Droid, here are a few things off the top of my head that I just can’t stand.
- Unlocking the screen seems like a process.
- My fingers are too big for the vertical touch keyboard.
- I haven’t found a single use for the mouse thing yet.
I plan on writing a few more posts about my experiences with my Droid phone over the next couple of days, you might want to consider taking a moment to subscribe to my rss feed or connect with me via my Facebook Fan page that way you know when I post my next Droid article. Don’t forget to leave a comment, especially if your a Droid owner yourself I would love to hear your feedback about Droid.

There’s a mouse on the Droid? I’ve been using it for the past three months and haven’t found that feature. Great phone and great review!
@d-rock, yeah the silly little pad by the right thumb. I haven’t used it either, I should have gone with it’s technical term.
The D pad is what John is referring to as the mouse. There is also an app so you don’t have have to keep unlocking the screen. This app is called screen mode widget which is free. You just add the widget to one of your screens you have three different modes that you can use with it. Greg Ellison

@Greg Ellison, no kidding? Thank you so much Greg I appreciate it, I have looked and couldn’t find anything.
@Greg Ellison, hey Greg I gave this app a shot it’s awesome. THANK YOU!
How about posting a sample pics taken from the Motorola Droid? I’d like to see how it compared with other cam phones.

It seems like the email issue has been fixed that I mentioned awhile ago. I seriously find something new everyday on the phone. Has anyone thought about rooting their Droid?
Hey John, thanks for this post, I just got a Droid phone, and what a great tool for mobile apps. It takes some getting used to but it already saves me lots of time. thanks to Greg too for sharing that screen mode widget. You have to search a little for it but I found it, installed it, and it works great!
BTW John, I have you down as a “Doctor on Staff” at my new blog, Country Web Doctor on Blogging wire. I know you have a post in your archives about how social media has worked for your business. I would love to share this with my audience here on the country web doctor and on the new Payson Web Blog too. People in this town need to see how it can work for small business. Thanks!

Hi John. Thanks for the review. I have a Google phone, but I considered getting a Droid I still might which is why I appreciate this post. As to your comment about people paying you to say a certain thing regarding reviews of products or whatnot, I think maybe you think it has to be that way which it doesn’t. I post some reviews on my blog just because I want to and some because I am paid to post, but the ones I am paid work just like the ones I am not – I state my honest opinion regardless of what the person ‘wants’ or ‘expects’. My motto is if you’re not good enough don’t whine – take constructive criticism and get better. I also only post banners on my blog that I either like or for people who have blogs/services etc that I like and want to help out. Its your blog, its your prerogative

@Dasche Bledsoe @thestarceleb, thank you as always for stopping by Dasche. I wouldn’t say that I think reviews can’t be done honestly when they are paid reviews or even free product reviews, I say it because I want others to know very clearly that my reviews are always my reviews, period. It’s a big part of why people even read my reviews in the first place.
Right now I’m going to have to wait quite a while to get a new phone with the plan I’m on. Not sure if I want a Droid or not but I’ve heard quite a lot of good AND bad things about it.
Then again there’s good and bad with anything.
How does it do with browsing around blogs and commenting on them and such? Also does it do well with allowing you to sign into social media networks and doing things like Twitter or what not?
Basically what I’m looking for on a phone (not at this point as I just mentioned above) is being able to do basic blogging (not submitting articles but browsing familiar blogs and commenting and such) on the phone on the go so I can get more done during the day rather than sit at my computer doing it all.
What are your thoughts on this?

@Eric, the Droid is excellent for surfing the web, I can’t really say anything in regards to the blog commenting aspect of it because I keep commenting to my laptop.
Drat! You had me up ’till big fingers being a bad thing. lol

Well I’ve been with Verizon for quite some time and have been waiting for a good iPhone competitor. I must say it looks like I finally found what I’m after.
I will stick to my BB John…. as long as you don’t go iPhone it’s all good!

@Keith@ Hot Blog Tips, even with the review I can assure you that the Droid capabilities crush the Blackberry’s. Especially for doing business on the go.
I use my google account very often. for that reason, a complete integration with my Google account is important for me. By the way, unlocking the screen should be quick and easy. Thanks!

Hey john, I love the droid platform. I’m using the google g1 phone now. I was disappointed that htc decided to make the g2 without a proper keyboard like the g1 though. I’ll be trying the blackberry bold 9700 next weekend, but I’ll be keeping this droid phone just incase I don’t get on with it.
The Droid “mouse” sure makes life easier, but it takes a bit to get use to. But hey, why not use the feature if you’ve already paid for it? Right?
@John@Long Beach air conditioning, I don’t do a lot of surfing via my phone maybe thats why I never really found a use for it yet.
Hey I have a droid and love it. I used to have a blackberry and i find that this is a million times better. Yes what they say about the fingers can be a problem however if you turn the phone sideways and type that way it gives you almost a regular but very efficient in size keyboard. As for the sensitivity you can adjust that fingerprints wipe it down and the battery carry an extra or charge at night or whenever by a computer and for touching keys while on the phone 1 u can lock the screen while on the phone or 2 keep it off your face i never have it against my face while talking I dont hold any phone against my face so that isnt a problem. Also you can lock the phone while listening to your music so you can put it your pocket without it changing your music. Its rather a nice phone easy to use and has an app for almost everything and what isnt there learn get creative and make one. You can get audio books on it or religous material even. I love my droid
I just noticed this post after I just posted on your cracked screen post! Would the cracked screen episode affect the review of the phone?
