I told myself over and over again that I was going to avoid writing on this topic simply for the fact that I have heard so much about it, read about it and whatever else to the point that I really am over it. Only problem is that it still fuckin pisses me off. So after a night of watching some fights with a couple of the guys we headed out back to chat on the Lanai, about what… who knows. Topics can go from spiders to snakes to bitching about how much everyone is bitching about the economy, yeah you read that right. I will probably end up writing another rant in the next day or so in regards to the constant bitching and doom and gloom bullshit that’s constantly on the news, I’m tired of that shit too. Anyway back to the topic at hand which is the Chrysler and GM Bailout.
Last time I checked I believe that Chrysler and GM were Business’s. Now if that has changed someone needs to let me know, but when you get down to the brass tax on this entire bailout bullshit let’s not forget Chrysler and GM are Business’s, period. Sure plenty of you are probably saying, “No shit John” but this is something I think a few people have forgotten over the years and it’s a very important point in regards to this entire situation. I will also repeat that same thing 100x a day if given the chance to…. because it’s true…. they are BUSINESS’S! Being in business means a lot of things and it also means as a business your going to be required to do a few things if you want to, well stay in business. Let’s face the first reality in regards to this bailout for GM and Chrysler, it won’t make a bit of difference. Give Chrysler another $5 billion, go ahead and give GM $16 billion and you can go ahead and do it another 10 times, it wont make a difference. As a whole the products suck, GM and Chrysler have failed to change with the times and with the trends leaving room for Toyota, Acura and Honda to beat them down in sales year after year. If the product sucks the business will not last, it just won’t. So before moving on let’s all come to grips with the fact that there isn’t enough money to make up the designs and create the cars they need to catch up to the other car companies.
Step two of the reality in regards to these two companies asking for more cash to be bailed out a little more. The economy now is not what screwed GM and Chrysler, the corruption at the top, poor leadership and the union is what screwed GM and Chrysler. If your product isn’t as good or as guaranteed as everyone else’s product and your staffing costs are three times higher than your competitors, chances are your going to have issues somewhere down the road. Corporate morons running the business into the ground while living the good life and cashing huge checks, sounds brilliant.
GM and Chrysler Bailout Plan Vote
My final thought on this entire thing takes me more on to the personal side a little bit and it’s simply to ask a question. I am curious who was bailing out Extreme Tan and Smoothies, Inc. in August of 2007 when sales dropped and foot traffic dropped with the increasing fuel costs, excellent weather conditions favorable for beach activity and of course the news already burying into people’s minds that we are all doomed. The answer is, no one….. and rightfully so. A business is a business and if that business can not succeed in it’s industry it is not the place of the government to start handing out piles of cash to save those already failing business’s. If Chrysler and GM were going to make it of the whole they are currently in, they would have done so already. GM blew through cash and needs another fat stack, cutting costs is not going to stop the massive bleeding from the pre-existing wounds that GM and Chrysler have. If GM and Chrysler are going to make it, I think they need to resolve their self created problems on their own and prove that you made it because of good business not because the government kept throwing billions at you to help you stay afloat.
A business is a business, this business model is broken. Cut the cord and let it go.

no way should they be bailed out, ur so right.
It’s rare but I can be right every once and a while ;) Thank you.
John,
First, I just wanted to say that I really dig your blog. Since The Star Celeb told me about it, I’ve been following and enjoying it every day.
Second, Ispeaking of some of your recent UFC posts, I received UFC 84 in the mail today via Netflix. I read somewhere that Dana White said he lost his voice rooting for Lyoto Machida to knock out Tito Ortiz during their fight, so I am getting ready to watch it as we speak!
Last, as far as the bailout, I have two thoughts. First, loosing the auto industry, in my opinion, could lead to the collapse of the media industry, because auto advertising is a major source of income for both newspapers and radio stations, and I would hate to see that happen. But in the same breath, the problems with the auto industry are, again, in my opinion, 100% the result of unions. And I have no compassion for the unions who would rather bitch about their contracts than actually try to save a company!
Later man!
Hey thank you, coming from someone with a blog as good as yours I appreciate that. All though the last couple of weeks I have been beyond busy I still find time to hit a few blogs out there and the Constant Complainer in my top three.
Hmmm I dont remember hearing Dayna screaming for Machida however I have no doubt that is exactly what Dayna wanted, the perfect “Have a nice life” ending to Tito Ortiz from Dayna White. Machida hands out a pretty severe beating in that fight.
The collapse of the Auto Industry would be devastating, however there are car companies out there that I am sure would be more than happy to fill a few advertising shoes. I am a firm believer that the Union destroyed the auto industry with it’s fuckin ridiculous rules and standings on certain issues. When one door closes another one opens and if the sad reality for the Auto industry is that Chrysler and GM can’t solve their own problems than they should probably rest into the sunset and make room for an other Auto company to move into place. Believe me here when I say I think it sucks royally, I think it’s sad it has come to this for Chrysler and GM but sooner or later the realization will have to be made that perhaps time has just passed them by.
John, I’m with you on this one. Instead of giving those giant automakers a multi-billion dollar handout, why not just keep taxes low for everyone, including Extreme Tan and Smoothies. It’s frustrating because its as if they’re being rewarded for having a broken, bloated business model. GM and Chrysler even have ridiculous union contracts where several hundred employees just show up for work and collect a paycheck without actually doing any work. Each employee like that represents a double-drain on their business. I bet Extreme Tan and Smoothies doesn’t have any shenanigans like that going on. Neither does my company. So where’s our bailout?
I think more importantly maybe they can bring an expert in that will use their tools and an expert that can provide a true Short and Long Term Game Plan for future development that will keep them competitive in today’s Auto Industry. I can face the reality that the US Tanning Industry nor even Extreme Tan and Smoothies would ever get a bailout or considered for anything like that, my point was aimed more at fixing the problem that caused it in the first place as opposed to slapping band aids on everything.
nice
Before two years, I was a fan of GM cars, but now I am very sad to know that they failed to overcome this problem.
In these days of Economic crisis, it's really difficult to resist to the trends. They have done a nice work.
Do you use the normal trackbacks or you use any specialised plugins? I been getting a lot of trackbacks for my sites from unrelated websites so just wondering
@Perry currently I use the stock trackbacks, this will be changing shortly because I hate trackbacks showing in my post.
