This is one of those topics that might get out of hand pretty quickly, there are bloggers out there that stand behind No Do Follow linking practices and have no intention of moving from their position on Do Follow and No Do Follow. On the other side of the coin you have passionate bloggers like Kikolani, John Sullivan from Pot Politics and myself that believe in the Do Follow blog movement, and in a very big way.
Those of you newbie bloggers or new bloggers looking for blogging tips and other blog related information that have yet to encounter and understand what Do Follow vs No Do Follow is, here’s a quickie for ya. The Extreme John blog is a DO FOLLOW BLOG, that means every time you leave a comment here on my blog you receive link juice back to your site, or in blogging terms a free quality backlink. In the event I had the No Do Follow attribute in place, you would leave comments here and never receive any backlink love.
As the new year quickly approaches I typically like to go over some things and see where I can make some changes moving forward. Over the course of the year this blog has exploded from where it was, actually even within the last six months it’s grown at a tremendous rate. I really have no complaints about the blog growing, however it has really locked up my time somewhat because I really try to stay active in the blogging community by being a U Comment, I Follow blogger. Sounds pretty exciting, but in reality all that means is that if your cool enough to leave a comment here I will typically visit your blog and leave a comment in return.
There is really a simple process to each of the steps of blogging and the various steps that you choose to use in your blogging strategies, I personally started to take something very simple and make it more complicated than it really needed to be. You see with each comment that I receive here on Extreme John, I will typically open the commenters blog and save it to my Feedly RSS feed reader so that any updates that get posted come up in my reader, doing so makes it easy for me to build posts like my Sunday Smash and stay busy commenting.
Moving in to 2010 I have decided to change things up a little bit with hopes that the changes will help me to be more active on the blogs that fit in to my blogging strategies, in addition to giving me some needed free time to find new blogs to add in my reader that also fit my strategies.
The first change I will be making is a change in regards to the blogs that are in my RSS reader, I will no longer be adding blogs to my reader that are not Do Follow Blogs. Here is where the mayhem comes in to play, because all of the die hard bloggers that don’t believe in the Do Follow blog concept will surely hate this, that’s life.
When I did my Alexa Review Chain it was a blogging chain that equally had bloggers helping each other out through the blogging review process, it went very well for everyone involved. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch your back, pretty simple concept. Now that I currently read over 400 blog posts on a weekly basis and leave comments on most of those posts, I need to trim some of the fat. Leaving comments on No Follow blogs while those same commenters are leaving double Do Follow comments here on my blog is counter productive, I enjoy the link juice just as much as anyone else.
There are still a few very good “U Comment I Follow” bloggers that don’t utilize some of the WordPress Plugins that make it simple to be a Do Follow Blog, some logs have a very good reason for not wanting to be Do Follow because they don’t want to deal with the increased spam that comes along with it. I will still continue to comment on those blogs based solely on the fact that I have built networks and long term relationships with some of those No DoFollow Blogs, I just don’t see the point in leaving a bunch of No Do Follow comments on other blogs when I can use that time to find new material and serious Do Follow blogs.
Pause…. I can’t believe I wrote that much crap on this topic.
Take a quick second to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on my changes going in to 2010, or just share your views on Do Follow Blogs and No Do Follow Blogs. If you are a blogger looking to make the change to a Do Follow Blog, grab the Do Follow WordPress Plugin from my list of 25 WordPress Plugins You Might Dig.
Do Follow Resources
I’m outtie.
P.s. O.k, not outtie yet. I think it is extremely important to note that there are tremendous benefits to commenting on No Do Follow blogs, depending on the blog size alone it can generate some decent clicks to your site. I also think it’s important to explain that there are reasons for certain blogs and bloggers to choose No Do Follow vs Do Follow, an example would be my small business blogs Insane Limos and Extreme Tan and Smoothies, if those blogs were Do Follow it would constantly be slammed with other limo companies and tanning companies trying to leach the Do Follow backlink. Now I’m outtie.

Well, I think you’re doing the right thing John. ExtremeJohn has indeed grown, as you say, at a tremendous rate. And I believe one of the reasons this is so is because you ‘change with the times’ and ‘roll with the punches’. Your planned changes for the coming year will probably trigger another series of growth spurts I suppose.
James Moralde´s last blog ..Track Cell Phone
@James Moralde, either that or I just like changing things up, or maybe I am just getting lazy. Haha. If nothing else it will clean up some of the time I spend doing things that really don’t offer any excitement in return.
You have thoroughly covered this topic.
I believe you have the right idea, John. I am more selfish with my time than you are. I rarely comment on a blog that doesn’t give me a do-follow link. I spend a lot of my time writing a meaningful comment relating to that post. I usually include what I think are the keywords the blogger is targeting also. I try to help a blog that I comment on. I do not think some link luv is too much to ask in return.
After all, I could be off writing content for MY sites if I wasn’t commenting. Actually I probably should be doing that more. Maybe I do have a New Years Resolution after all.
Keith@ Norman Rockwell Art´s last blog ..Dec 20, Breaking Home Ties, Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post Cover from 9/25/1954
@Keith@ Norman Rockwell Art, I am the same way Keith, either I leave a comment of value and try to target some keywords or I prefer not to leave one at all if I really don’t have anything to say.
I am pretty sure that your technique is working very well for you, your consistent and your networking ability is top notch.
Well if you consider that most of the nofollow blogs are probably A listers I reckon you’re pretty well taking the same stance it did when I said I was no longer going to comment on their blogs.
You mentioned that it was worthwhile to comment on some of those blogs as they may lead to some traffic, but that’s only if you are one of the first to comment. If not you’re just buried in the commenting pile.
Sire´s last blog ..How Amazon And The Power Of Keywords Can Increase Your Earnings
@Sire, see Sire I really don’t comment on any “A Lister” blogs anyway, most of the topics or at least the way they are delivered start to get on my nerves, not that what they do is bad by any means. I am just a strange guy that is pretty set in my ways on what I enjoy reading and don’t care to read.
As for the traffic part, you better be top 3 or it’s not worth the traffic return thats for sure.
Hi John, first time here for me. I found your blog through a Tweet. I think you have covered this topic very well and I have to say that I totally agree with the sentiment expressed.
All my blogs are Do Follow and whilst I will never be an A lister(do I really want that) I am happy to use Do Follow to increase readership and spread a little link juice.
I am not sure that most No Follow blogs are A listers(Sire). Blogger users for example get No Follow by default and in my experience many bloggers using this platform simply don’t know how to change things or indeed the value of doing so.
Funnily enough I found out how to do it from an A lister blog who doesn’t follow!
I look forward to some more interesting posts in the future.
Mike´s last blog ..Christmas in Thailand- A Time for Giving
@Mike, hey Mike thanks for coming through and taking the time to leave a comment, I appreciate that and it’s great to hear that your blogs are Do Follow.
I personally don’t sweat that A-Lister stuff either, I post what I want on here until I become either too tired to post anymore or I just get tired of it period. I enjoy it now, regardless of what list someone else might want to put me on… or not. Haha.
I have to disagree on No Follow and transferring link juice and I will tell you privately why its not a fact. Google does in fact follow every link AND the do give LJ on no follow comments. I will explain what I mean by that, but basically no follow does not mean no love from the G.
You da man!
@dj airek, That’s along the lines of what I’ve been reading and becoming more careful about the links going out from my sites.
Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee´s last blog ..N.O. Brew Review
@Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee, you need to be concience of staying involved in good neihberhoods regardless if your Do Follow or No Do Follow, so that’s a good move on your part.
@Extreme John, As I was thinking about it, the real benefit of Do Follow is that it attracts other people to leave comments, which doesn’t hurt.
Anyways, remind me to tell your my theory of why Google doesn’t pay attention anymore.
Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee´s last blog ..N.O. Brew Review
@Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee, will it be like that theory you had about them never updating Google Page Rank again?
Just askin
@dj airek, I still owe you that phone call (after Christmas) and we can get down on this face to face, be ready to fight.
I do pretty much the same. There’s too many blogs in my RSS reader, so the ones that either have CommentLuv and/or Do Follow, are the ones I try to keep up with. I simply don’t have time for all the rest

Klaus @ TechPatio´s last blog ..Production Of New iPhone Has Begun
@Klaus @ TechPatio, I did notice there are a lot more blogs out there adding the No Follow attribute to CommentLuv comments, might be the new hot thing. All though I won’t be following that route.
I think you are doing the right thing too. I don’t limit myself to only commenting on do-follow blogs, but I don’t read 400 blogs either
I do filter with folders my do-follow blogs in my Google reader and pay more attention to them (just added this one) because they are usually the ones that drop by my site(s) too. I skim through the rest of them and if a title strikes me I might click through.
Keith´s last blog ..What Browser Are You Using?
@Keith, thanks for taking the time to leave a great comment Keith and of course thank you for adding EJ to your reader, hopefully the place won’t let you down. ;)
I will be heading over to your site to check things out if you don’t mind
I have also been trimming my rss reader a little. I agree completely with you John. I am MUCH more likely to spend the time to read and comment on a do follow blog.
My article directory and my blog at http://www.jimclarymarketing.com/blog are both do follow
@JimClary@Free Article Directory, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment Jim. As long as the comments are relevant and you enjoy reading the topics, it really doesn’t sound like much of lose lose that’s for sure.
Funny, but I thought I was Do Follow, then I noticed in the CommentLuv plug-in that there is a a check box for this, too. Actually, I noticed the ‘no follow’ attribute in one of those links as was a bit confused. I changed this when I found it so let me know if something is still amiss.
Now to go firgure out my four-wheel drive so I can get out of my driveway.

Anne´s last blog ..Winner of the $35 Jiffy Lube Gift Card
@Anne, I noticed that when I went through your site yesterday, or better yet your site came up in my reader. You still had the Do Follow on the name link so it’s not like you were just killing bloggers with no link juice. Haha.
Send snow!
I must spend 2 hours a day reading blogs if its interesting i will comment if its do follow or not.
@pest, that’s also an excellent approach.
Hi John. I think we have to remember why we leave comments in the first place. I’d like to call it originality. If we forgot the ‘why’, then our comments become not original. Of course this ‘why’ can be different between a person and another.
When I serve my original reason of commenting, do or no follow doesn’t matter.
But it’s just me ;-)
Isaac | GoBlogger´s last blog ..Why You Should Monitor Your Link Popularity
@Isaac | GoBlogger, without a doubt Isaac it comes down to the blogger and their personal preferences, the bottom line is that comments should always be relevant.
It looks like I’m #13 on the hit parade, which is a good thing, in my case. It’s not clearly to me how to become a Do Follow Blog, with the underlying Blogger technology I have on my site, however, I will endeavor to convert it, as I’ve been at this consistently for over a year now, and I need all the help I can get. Thanks!!!
Matches Malone´s last blog ..$13 from 13 people for Team #13 on December 13th
@Matches Malone, sometimes it just takes a little time and patience, of course mixed with a tremendous amount of work and consistency. Being Do Follow in my opinion certainly helps to open the discussion’s.
I spend my entire workday online and part of it includes improving SEO and networking with other bloggers. Normally, I comment on any I blog I find interesting to comment on, but I also find commentluv enabled and do follow blogs to be a major plus factor when I decide.

Jonathan @ Archon Digital´s last blog ..Entrecard Dropped
@Jonathan @ Archon Digital, that’s pretty much how I have done it for the last year or so, however my reader is just growing a little too much and starting to show some pretty shady activity that I have been following over the last couple of weeks.
I really can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t use the CommentLuv plugin if they are looking to grow networks and traffic, pretty much a no brainer.
“do or no follow doesn’t matter”
For me it does. One of the biggest challenges for me as a full time blogger is using my time wisely. It is so easy to get distracted- I often find myself drifting in cyber space.
Where I choose to leave comments is important. I don’t leave comments just for back links, I like sharing and communicating within the blog community-BUT- I try to stay with things that bring a return as well. CommentLuv and DoFollow are my friends! Great blog you have here, glad I found it! Peace to all over the Christmas holiday.
MrCyberSmart@ChicagoSEO´s last blog ..CyberSmart Business Blogging News: 12/22/09
@MrCyberSmart@ChicagoSEO, first off let me start by saying thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and share your views. Your thought process is the same thought process that I posses and that many others posses, I do however like to turn the corner once I feel the time is right. At this stage of the game and with sooooo many awesome blogs out there that I enjoy, I need to trim some of the fat and get down to really supporting the communities that I enjoy the most and that might offer something in return for the link juice that they will be getting from me in my Sunday Smash posts as well as the comments I leave.
I see the dofollow fans got here first and suspect that a slew of objections will arrive shortly. You have announced exactly what I have recently been moving toward and will be taking it even further by focusing my time almost exclusively in KeywordLuv enabled dofollow blogs.
I will be publishing a post on how to use KeywordLuv and why I recommend it and will link this post in to that one. Now that there are so many quality CommentLuv and KeywordLuv enabled blogs why not invest your time where it is most beneficial? If you don’t already use KeywordLuv watch for my post or drop by and subscribe so you don’t miss it as the next logical step is for dofollow bloggers to focus only on those blogs that use it.
You need to know why that will be true and also why you are probably not getting the most value from it even if you ARE using it (because you aren’t targeting the best anchor text AND url when you comment). For those who want to know now read the post I featured in CommentLuv for this comment. That is the single most important thing I have ever written for every business, affiliate marketer or blogger.
For those who wish to focus on dofollow blogs there are a couple things you need to know:
1) Some dofollow blogs use Lucias LinkLuv so comments will appear to be nofollow because only comments after a certain number that the blogger can choose become dofollow. Before you write off a blog as nofollow at the sign of the first nofollow comment check to see if they use Lucias. (Try searching for a post on their site about that or check comments in a thread that had a large number of them or check to see if the commentators listed in the Top Commentator plugin have dofollow comments.)
2) Do NOT assume that all blogs using CommentLuv and KeywordLuv are dofollow. Does anyone else think using those plugins and making them nofollow is deceptive?
Consider using one of the certified dofollow services for your blog. I use and look for the PageRush widget you can see in my right sidebar. They verify that a blog actually IS dofollow and their widget changes color if your blog doesn’t stay dofollow. Note that mine is green and stays that way. There are other certified dofollow options. (That would make a good post too.)
Sometimes plugins or other issues can cause all the comments on a particular post to be nofollow in an otherwise dofollow blog. Maybe the blogger knows; maybe they don’t so when I see that I email them and ask. If they don’t answer I take them off my list.
The fast, easy way to tell whether each page of the blog you are in is dofollow or nofollow is by using the SEOBook Toolbar and clicking the little red link icon in the far right. I’ll write about how to do that and provide links in my upcoming KeywordLuv post.
GrowMap @Internet Strategist´s last blog ..Are You Playing Hide and Seek With Your Market?
@GrowMap @Internet Strategist, this is an excellent comment, you should have written a guest post ;)
I have been using the Keyword Luv plugin for a while and at some point in the VERY near future I will be making the move from my current Do Follow Wordpress Plugin to the one you mentioned, Karen at Blazing Minds has been using it and I like it.
I will say that I never take advantage of using Keyword Luv on other blogs when it’s installed, I really need to though because it’s important. One thing I am noticing here is that the Keyword Luv abuse is picking up and starting to annoy me, I might need to make some changes in regards to that plugin in the near future as well.
@Extreme John, That was my thought as well. Very good comment-sub-post! That’s another thing that I love about comments, many times you can get great information. I know in the world of political blogging, comments “inside” the blogs are my #1 resource for tips. “-)
MrCyberSmart@ChicagoSEO´s last blog ..Chicago SEO – Blogging For Business With WordPress
@MrCyberSmart@ChicagoSEO, I said something similar below. To be completley honest I had no clue what this blog was or wasn’t going to be, it was a mistake. The mistake turned out great because I learn more now than I ever did before.
@Extreme John, Yes, I do tend to go on, don’t I? I have yet to figure out how you are applying dofollow and nofollow in your blog and as usual I always have more questions.
For example, how does your blog count the number of comments someone leaves? Which field is it using and what part of that field is counted?
I ask because in this comment I had GrowMap from Internet Strategist and more recently I left comments as Gail @ Social Media Marketing (oops – more than 20 characters so that will never go dofollow).
I noticed that Kikolani’s comments are dofollow when she uses Kikolani but in the ping.fm post she used Kikolani from Blogging and both Blogging and the CommentLuv post name are nofollow. Sire is dofollow in that same post.
Are we supposed to love a challenge and figure out what goes dofollow or have you shared that information somewhere?
Gail @ Business Blogging´s last blog ..MEME: LinkLuv to My Fav Bloggers Favs
The NoFollow die hards are usually those trying to keep their pagerank sculpted as well as possible, unless they are already megablogs like you mentioned, this really is just a personal decision so they can try to achieve the highest PR possible while still a small time blog. I used to be NoFollow for my first 12 months blogging, but in the end I chose to have more comments and visitors than a slightly higher pagerank. I have met more bloggers this way, but I do get a lot more comment spam too from people trying to steal the dofollow link.
Dragon Blogger´s last blog ..Can You Quit Your Day Job to Blog?
@Dragon Blogger, I would have to agree with you, Im not so worried about the Google Page Rank as much as I am worried about having some interaction here and getting additional views from others on various topics, I learn a tremendous amount of information just in the comments left by excellent contributors like yourself.
I am the same way as MrCyberSmart. I have very limited time set aside each day for blogging. This includes writing for my blogs, other sites, reading blogs, and commenting. When I comment on a site, its NOT for link love, its because i like the blogger and / or their blog enough to spend the time post. But blogs that do DoFollow will give me more incentive to post a comment if I can add value to a blog or give an option about the article. CommentLuv and DoFollow have helped my new site and will continue to use it.
I have to agree with John, I feel its more important to comment and read blogs that are DoFollow. Afterall those larger DoFollow, help the blogging community. I read and comment on to many blogs as well. Over the next few days I will be organizing Google Reader and removing NoFollow Blogs that I feel I do not want or need to read. That includes Megablogs. Of course I will still read them if I come across a good article and I have input I will comment. However I will be focusing on Blogs that are DoFollow, CommentLuv and Blog Engage members.
element321´s last blog ..Daily Delicious Posts Dec 21th 2009
@element321, so many bloggers really never even consider the “community” until after their first year, it’s like baby steps and with each new step you learn something new and make changes, making the change from wasting my time on No Do Follow blogs to no longer wasting so much time on them will make a big difference in how well I can actually impact the blogs within my blogging community, the ones I have built relationships with. Thats where it’s at, even beyond Do Follow or No Do Follow.
Great comment!
I’m a dofollow advocate after a change of heart mainly because John Sullivan of Potpolitics became a close blogging friend and reading his blog influenced me to switch. If I had come across this blog earlier, I would have the done the same.
My hope is that dofollow blogs would continue to support each other.
By the way, my dofollow blog lifts nofollow in the comments only after some number of comments. I’m having a giveaway this holidays which I hope dofollow blogs will support.
Mathdelane @Software Critics´s last blog ..Join Software Critics’ $1,500US New Year Giveaway
@Mathdelane @Software Critics, actually I was just over at your blog and noticed that John leaves comments there, he’s my boy so if your spot is good enough for him it must be good enough for me
I was tricked by your plugin initially because it shows comment name links as No Do Follow, most likely because of the minimum you have set in the plugin. Same plugin I will be utilizing here before you know it.
@Extreme John, I did for some reasons. I even had a post about it which included John and a link to his blog being an example. It would be too promotional to post the link here.

Well like you said I get link juice might as well comment. Cool post, awesome blog.

@Ed, there ya go. Get it get it.
How about my “DoFollow” weekly echoes, will they count and have your grace? LOL. Anyway, one of my major objectives for 2010 will be to move my main blog to WP so I should be able to relieve JS Echo commenting system from its duties. Merry X’mas and a wonderful blogging new year
DiTesco´s last blog ..Merry X’Mas and a Happy New Year
@DiTesco, haha of course they will have my grace. Your blog is not one of the blogs I plan on removing from my reader, I consider you and your blog as an important part of my network. Don’t get me wrong though, I will be excited when you remove JSkit
I’m using Disqus on both of my sites. Do you happen to know if links on Disqus are Do follow. I doubt any of the wordpress plugins would help since it doesn’t use the default wordpress form.
I switched to Disqus because I like the twitter and facebook intergration. Can’t want until CommentLuv gets the plugin working with Disqus.
benwaynet´s last blog ..Iron Man 2
@benwaynet, I do not think they are DoFollow. I was using, Disqus until I started using CommentLuv. I spoke with Disqus Support and they said that CommentLuv and Disqus is working on a plugin to make it work, but they have been working on that for quite a while. I finally switched to intensedebate and it works pretty good. I might switch back if Disqus comes out with a better plugin.
element321´s last blog ..Daily Delicious Posts Dec 21th 2009
@element321, thank you. Your right on the money, No Do Follow on the JSkit or Disqus plugins as of yet.
One of the number one reasons, or should I say MANY reasons I no longer use any third party commenting systems.
@Extreme John,
I think IntenseDebate is DoFollow. I also have the DoFollow plugin setup. I tried to search for an answer but, couldn’t find an answer. Does anyone know if its a DoFollow.
element321´s last blog ..Daily Delicious Posts Dec 21th 2009
@element321, Intense Debate? I’m not sure about that one, it might be. I can do some sniffing around.
Obviously, the commenting community on this blog is made up of mostly dofollow fans. Try supporting the concept elsewhere and you’re in for a cold shower…
I am dofollow, but I have a slightly different perspective on the issue. I think it’s not a matter of giving back linkjuice, but more a question of not distorting the natural flow of web links. I should probably do a post about this – it’s a bit too complicated for a comment. Thanks for the inspiration, once more, John!

I look forward to the post.
To tell you the truth I have no idea if my blog is Do follow or not. Either way I just added and activiated the Do Follow 4.0 plugin

@Anne @ b6s.net, I am getting ready to pack up the car, once I get home and crack my first beer I will be heading over to your blog
Hey, John I switched my blog to Do Follow a little bit again haven’t really announced it yet. Will do as part of my blog re-design wrap and make sure it is still Do Follow after switching and tweaking a bunch of things.
I definitely see the advantages of Do Follow and support blogs that are for it a matter of fact I might have to write a post on this also now. Haha.
Jared P Little´s last blog ..Start A Web Small Business in 2010
@Jared P Little, that’s awesome news and I can’t wait to see your re-design. Going to head over there now.
First off, thanks for mentioning my site. I definitely believe in how important dofollow is, and am glad to see other bloggers that feel as strongly about its rewards.
I actually keep my subscriptions organized in folders – dofollow and nofollow. Google Reader allows you to have multiple tags for subscriptions, so I can just look at dofollow subscriptions, blogs by subject (both dofollow and not), etc. I absolutely love it!
Kikolani´s last blog ..Twitter Direct Messages – Best (and Worst) Practices
@Kikolani,
I just figured that out with Google Reader
I am going through and organizing deleting the blogs I no longer read.
element321´s last blog ..Daily Delicious Posts Dec 21th 2009
@element321, nothing wrong with a little winter house keeping…. or reader cleaning.
@Kikolani, thank you for stopping by Kristi I appreciate it and it’s always a pleasure mentioning any of your blogs, always quality.
You might have just sold me on the Google Reader, I have been using Feedly forever. Actually it’s the only one I have ever used, might help if I check the settings, maybe it’s a feature in Feedly also.
First, I am a big time do follow advocate and have been practically since the first plugin came out. That said, I have 2 posts in draft mode; both of which might hit 4 figures in comments. lol
One, on how almost all do follow advocates I run across actually seem to miss the most important aspect of it, umm…yea including you I think John ;) .
Two, will be about why Commentluv is more valuable then do follow; at least in the short term.
A third post, which will predate those two will be one very similar to your…oh yea.

Dennis Edell´s last blog ..The $10 Winner And More Good News…..
Wow, I thought there would be more comments here where all have their say. I’m happy to say that my blog is DoFollow and you are already leaving comments. So, I take it that my blog will stay on your list?
Why, over 400 posts each week. That’s huge for me.
George Serradinho´s last blog ..eBook – Delicious Candy Recipes
@George Serradinho, your blog is one that would stay in my reader regardless of being Do Follow or No Do Follow.
Hmmm … call me old fashioned, but if I’m choosing which blogs to follow in my feed reader it will be primarily based on whether or not I find the posts useful and interesting.
And if I comment on a blog, I hope it’s because I had something productive to say … not just because I wanted a link.
Here’s one thing to consider though when it comes to the ROI on which blogs to comment on … it relates to building relationships. I have friend’s who I met through blog commenting. I link to their blogs, they link to mine. Those links are almost always in-post, and contextual. It doesn’t matter one bit whether either of us is using a dofollow plugin.
In fact, truth be told, if someone is linking to me in their posts, I’d almost prefer that they’re Not also giving dofollow links to any stranger who takes the time to stop by and offer up a “great post, I subscribed to your blog”.
Just a little contrarian view on how commenting even on nofollow blogs, can have good long-term value.

Todd@Candle Monkey´s last blog ..Going Flameless with Scented Melts
@Todd@Candle Monkey,
There are equally interesting and informative blogs whether they are dofollow or not so they decision might come down to not is the blog interesting but how much time do you have to split up between all the interesting blogs that are out there.
10 dofollow blogs or 5 dofollow and 5 nofollow or 10 nofollow.
If I only have time for 10 read posts in a day/week/month why not just hit 10 dofollow blogs that I enjoy reading rather than 10 nofollow blogs that I enjoy reading.
If I spend most of my time on dofollow blogs not only do I get a link back to my site but they get to be a 1 regular visitor more popular site. Whether that means they have 1 more subscriber or just one more “hit” on their counter the blogs are also getting rewarded for my visit.
I have no idea if the last 2 sentences make sense but they made sense to me when I typed it.
Dwippy@DoFollow Blog List´s last blog ..No Title for this One
I might just end up doing the same too BUT I’ll definitely not scarifice those nofollow blogs with my latest celebrity gist ;). It’s about time one gets paid for all the trouble. That said I’ve got nofollowers whom have actually come around to leaving tons of comments on my blog even more than the dofollow bloggers.
Hi Extrme John, I first visited your blog like 3 months ago, read som of your post and forgto about it, your blog certainly has grown much since, now I see your name everywhere, congrats and I’ll visit more often.
i agree with you john… thanks for sharing your idea.

I really have to agree with some of the other comments and say that I will leave a comment regardless if it is no or do follow. Google can still see it and that’s what counts. Plus you are adding value to the authors blog.

Sign me up… I’ve loaded the plug-in, made my blog do-follow, and added extremejohn to my reader.
I agree with your point of view. Blogers should help each other
. I like your blog very much. Thanks a lot. Keep blogging!
Hi extremejohn, I started my blog a few weeks ago. I’d never even heard of the ‘dofollow’ plugin until a few days ago, through nothingbutrandom.com. I was a bit dubious about making my own site ‘dofollow’ due to my fear of it abused. However, I love the idea of giving something back where its due.
So anyway, I’ve just installed and activated the dofollow plugin on my blog!

Thanks John Have been doing some split testing with do follow no follow.
Seems that I get a lot of spam with the do follow but my spam filters take care of most of those issues. I do see a small difference with the useable comments whereas I receive more through the do follow. Probably just a numbers game. But thanks for you perspective.
@Rob@Bophut Hotels, my pleasure and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment
