Palm Harbor Elementary School Closing Down

About a month ago I overheard my Daughter talking about her school closing down, for a second I thought maybe she overheard something and maybe misunderstood. I asked Lisa about it and asked what she was talking about and Lisa told me there was some talk at school about them closing the school after the school year. For the most part I am just like you and most everyone else you know, I hear stuff like this and it annoys me but I don’t really go and do anything about it, maybe I will write about it but it’s not like im standing in front of the School Board waiving a sign like I should be.

Now some time has gone by and when you drive past or pull into Palm Harbor Elementary School it’s very clear that my Daughter knew exactly what she was talking about and it was very clear that there are people and students out there much more motivated than I am when it comes to addressing issues like this. You see someone at PHMS organized some students and they all took red cups and placed them in the fence at school, the message is clear “Please Save Our School“. A few days later more motivated Teachers and Students hung signs from the car circle hoping to gain more attention and stop something very sad, especially to Elementary school students.. The message again, “Please Save Our School.”

I have to be honest this is crazy stuff, stuff you hear about in places far away and certainly nothing that ever effected us as kids. Back in a times of less money, and smaller economies I never not once worried about where I was going to school, never heard any crap about “A Schools” and “B Schools” and especially not “School Closings“. All of this Budget stuff and all of these masterminds sitting on School boards and wherever else and no one can figure out how to keep a school with 400 students open? Doesn’t make any sense to me, especially since our Property taxes have almost tripled from the $4,000 they were 3 years ago in February… Meanwhile no one can figure out how to keep a school open… A SCHOOL!!! This isn’t some local park (they love to spend millions building those), it’s a school a school where they teach kids and build them for this Countries future, just like every other school. School’s shouldn’t be shut down people, period.

Call me biased call me whatever you want, you can even go as far as to say that if it wasn’t my Daughters school they were closing, I probably wouldn’t give a damn. You can say that, it just shows how little you know me. Im not the smartest guy in the world and I honestly wouln’t know where to begin but who knows maybe someone with some know how will read that can make a difference. If not consider it my little cry to save a School thats fine, I am not the only one that has a good reason why the school shouldn’t be shut down.

We did our homework when building our house.. We found that Palm Harbor Elementary was an “A” school and the best choice for Alexa .. now what? Send her to some “low grade” school and hopes she gets the same best education? And now they are saying the other local schools are already too crowded to take these Palm Harbor Elementary kids into!

It’s really too bad that something like this School or any School closing needs to occur in the first place, as far as Im concerned it shows a true lack for whats really important and certainly doesn’t show me that any of these people know how to run this place…. Great election choices.
